Green Room - Week 14 - Day 7
Feb. 17th, 2010 08:14 amLike the smoke monster wearing a pair of glasses to avoid being recognized to go on Undercover Boss - it's time for another day and another Green Room!!
But this isn't just any ole Green Room, it's a trainee Green Room being filmed for a documentary, so just ignore the cameras following you around and just talk about all of your problems as if you weren't talking to a stranger while being filmed!
***
Remember to vote this week! The time will slip by before you know it. A vote or two is going to make all the difference this time. (It tends to anyway, but you know what I mean!) http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/303858.html
Once you've done that - a FREE TOPIC went up last night: http://community.livejournal.com/therealljidol/304218.html
A cat has already linked an entry. On one hand, that means you are going to be hard pressed to come up with anything cooler. After all - it's a cat. On the internet.
Is *your* cat on the internet? (Well, OK, probably.)
But that just means that the Free Topic is now the place to be. Bring extra treats.

Date: 2010-02-17 04:35 pm (UTC)The whole problem with this situation is that we're probably going to haggle over the word "significantly" - i.e, is he significantly impaired in the classroom by his disability. Since he is making A's/B's and doing reasonably well (at the moment), they may try to argue that he is not.

Date: 2010-02-18 05:08 am (UTC)The tests they gave showed some impairment though so maybe that helped him get the accommodations.
It's so hard to know the thin line though. I want him to work up to his potential, not be..."lazy" in any way. He's smart (in some ways) yet Really, really struggles in others (he still writes most letters and number backwards a good bit of the time and they aren't sure why. And he is almost 9)
So...like...recently, he may be completely failing math (very not good) And I don't know whether part of it is lack of motivation in multiplication (it seems maybe?) or the struggle to see numbers frontwards (these are timed tests)
So...I don't think they are fulfilling some of his IEP, like one accomadation is he is allowed extra time on tests. Should I go up and fuss about the math tests so he can pass? Or does this reflect his true ..ability? And he needs to accept the grade he earned?
I'm very worried what his end of the year math grade will be.
I really don't know. What does it come down to? Like, what if he got held back. My almost 9 year old is 4 ft 8 in...already the tallest kid, held back he will be a giant.
I really, really don't know what to do. ::Sigh::

I know how you feel, though. The IEP/504 is to help make his education accessible for him - not to give him an 'easy ride'.
