Week 22 Eliminations and Run-Off

Hello, your friendly neighborhood tech support here.  In case you've forgotten me.  ;-)

clauderainsrm 's technical issues have left me with the sad duty of announcing this week's eliminations.  I'll be minding the store until his issues are resolved. (His technical issues....)

From the Achilles' Heel group, we are saying goodbye to brightflashes  and spydielives .

From the Scapegoat group, we are saying goodbye to walkertxkitty and...  we have a run off between edith_jones  and imafarmgirl to determine who gets the final position in the Top 15!

There are new rules for the run-off this week.  And they are...  Gary is giving you a topic and you have until Monday at 1pm EST to post a link to your entry back here!  And your topic is...  *drum roll* ...  Making Fire.

It's sad to see eliminations every week and as we go on it just gets harder and harder.  Gary will be around tomorrow to say nice things about you all.  Goodness knows, I rarely have nice things to say about anyone.  ;-)

Hopefully in a few weeks, once I'm down to only one job, I'll be around a lot more.  Be warned!

Also, I have made bacon today.

I'll post about my experiences in the competition sometime Monday, if I've got time.

I knew when I saw the topics that this would be my last round. Both invited drama and dirty laundry and I hate both. One of the things I promised myself with the competition this time around was that I would not use dramatics to manipulate or win sympathy votes. I keep my troubles close to the vest and I wasn't about to start airing them for public consumption!

I chose the take on the topic I did knowing it wouldn't be enough; it was fiction and the scapegoat theme was quite subtle. The characters were rough, unfinished, and out of context. However, writing the piece allowed me to smooth over a lump in the novel of which they are part, a novel which my writing partner and I hope to have in the hands of an agent and editor within the next year.

My other goals were accomplished as well:

- The entries were public and will remain so in spite of the fear that my ex would see them. I've learned that he truly can't hurt me any longer.

- I got as far as I did without bothering my friends about voting or soliciting votes overmuch (I think I posted a grand total of five times about it).

- I stayed true to myself on the topics and did not give in to the desire to write what I thought people wanted to see.

- I met my goal of beating my position last year; Last year I was in the top fifty. This time I made it to the top twenty.

I'm not sorry to be eliminated. I have said in other places that I was getting tired, and I am. I wasn't expecting to need chemo in the middle of this. I don't talk about it much but sometimes it was an effort to just get up and make sure a topic was posted, let alone write the entry, reading others', and interacting in the green room. I like to think I'm going to get a well deserved rest now. I'm frankly surprised, with as much as I had going on, that I actually made it this far.

For these things alone, it was worth it. I consider myself a winner no matter what.

It was very interesting to read your posts, I truly enjoyed them and I had no idea you were going through chemo, if anything I don't think that your writing quality was influenced negatively by anything going on at all, it was always good work.
