I'm sort of holding my breath today. I've been having pretty bad foot issues lately, went to the doctor earlier, and everything is inconclusive. They want me to try a few things at home before deciding the next step. Ember's going to That Awful Place at noontime because she's been having a few issues. We just found out the little gray car (the one I take to work) is springing no less than 4 different leaks and we don't know if they're still under warranty. There's a leak under the boiler and the washer's making funny sounds. And my doctor wants me to quit smoking.
:curls up into a ball and sucks her thumb because it's better than screaming into the void:
BTW, have ya'll read imafarmgirl's entry yet? It is precious and heart-breaking, all at the same time. The part about the family from Mexico just tugged at my gut. Her writing always just sucks you in...as I've said before, it is so three-dimensional and interactive.
Have a cold, debating how much of my seriously cranky to unleash on others, because when I blow town to party in L.A. for five days and come back and say "what did I miss?" resounding silence is not, in fact, an adequate representation of "there was a long discussion about how people find you repellent."
Everyone's entitled to their taste. It's just the bad manners and self-righteousness that get a little wearying.
1. I have a big friends list because people like to read my stuff. Why is this rocket science?
2. I write about the stuff I do, because this is what my life looks like.
3. Any assertion that even begins to imply "men write about ideas and women write about their own little lives" is sexist and offensive, and whether my existence is part of the discourse or not, I take it personally. Anyone who enjoys the personal essay form should. It's incredibly demeaning.
Had to get that out of my system so I can write my damn entry.
"there was a long discussion about how people find you repellent." If I had seen this? I don't even want to imagine how I would have reacted, given that I'm a pretty reactive reactory? person, especially under stress and when it involves something that I feel passionate about.
Yes, I'm saying in the Green Room right now that I support and consistently vote for rm. Not based on character though if it were that, I'd still consistently vote, but based on what her writing does to me. Open yourselves up, idolers, and see what she does with her rich developed voice, her entries that ask no permission, her words which flow out of her as if she is meant to say them, and the layers of humanity that lie between the lines of her essays. Don't look at her as a person who has high numbers. Look at her as a person who has worked for those high numbers and earned every one of them, including the one that I cast.
So I went out of my way tonight to find an economy size bottle of Mr Bubble. I have tried so many different bath products, but ultimately this is the one that never fails to help me relax.
Music goes a long way for me - preferably combined with reading and/or a bubble bath. I like to listen to things that capture a certain mood and let me zone out. Radiohead's album Kid A is one of my favorites for this, or Sigur Ros' Untitled album. Sometimes I just go for classical. It just helps me unwind.
I think it's funny that other than a couple people, after rm's comment, everyone found a fascinating spot on the wall that needed to be stared at immediately!*G*

Date: 2009-02-24 09:26 pm (UTC)Right now is usually the time of the week when I'm cleaning up my entry to post it tonight/early tomorrow.
But this one...this one's really hard. It's nonfiction and extremely personal.
I've managed to stay off the list of shame all season...but this week might prove my downfall. (DOH!
I guess I'm still debating as to whether I should post this blasted thing or not...write something else? Gah...
Don't mind me...just mulling over my options and beating my head against a few walls.
Hope the rest of you who haven't posted yet are having an easier time than I.
Peace & kittens.
