What a morning! I hated to go to bed last night but I couldn't keep my eyes open. Waking up to the good news started my day off right! Woohoo! And the ballot questions in Massachusetts went the way I wanted them to as well. So I still have a job because our income tax is still in place. If it was abolished our agency surely would have closed.
I'm about to leave for surgery prep, and they will start poking around in my throat in two hours. No more tonsils of doom! So uh, if I don't respond to comments right away or at all it is because I'm befuddled by pain and medicines.
Woo Hoo! We've finally broken free of the regime! And NC is free of Elizabeth Dole, too! Could there be a better morning?
I got to have a wonderful homeschooling moment with my kids already. We sat down at the computer and I showed them pictures of our President-Elect, the current President, White House, and Oval Office. I explained some of the history of racism, how it's affected our family (you wouldn't know it to look at me, but I'm half Mexican), why people on the news and stuff keep bringing up his color and how I hope they'll remember this moment and continue to celebrate how our country grows...
I also explained a little bit about what Obama stands for. It's bittersweet but great to say, "Remember when we didn't have gas? And when we did, it cost so much that some people couldn't go anywhere? Remember when we lost our jobs and didn't have food for a while and had to go to that food bank? And how Daddy didn't want to go to the doctor when he got hurt because it costs so much money? That's the stuff our new President promises to work on. His color really shouldn't be the big story. Remember this."
This relates to nothing political. It happened at around 10:20 PM, where I felt really sleepy and beat.
I've woken up feeling like junk.
It also seems that while we have a a promising new President, lots of other bullshit passed with YESes. As much as it gets good, the bleak still exists.
I was listening to a discussion on the radio this morning of the most important jobs in the US besides political ones. Those jobs that get no recognition.
Some examples:
1. The people who clean up road kill. Without them we would have poor dead animals all over the world.
2. The people who clean out the porta-potties. Without them there would be some smelly concert places.
What are some other of the most important non-political jobs that don't get a lot of recognition?
There was a "Dirty Jobs" marathon on Discovery. One of them was a "Presidential Special" where Mike told of non-political jobs presidents had before going into office. I kept flipping back between that and MSNBC...crap, I wish I could remember what Mike talked about!
I am right there waiting with you... I am pretty indifferent at the moment, just waiting to see things in action then I will be feeling some kind of emotion.
Of all the nights for the baby to say, 'enough, we will sleep before 10 tonight'! I jumped right out of bed this morning to turn on the T.V. I was happy.
What they said on CNN or somewhere last night was the marriages that have been done can't be invalidated, there just wouldn't be any more of them. So everyone who is married will still be married!
"sleepily wanders in and helps herself to some coffee:
Morning! I've got all the windows open and the heat nearly turned off because it's in the upper 50s here. In November. Inconceivable!
We finally rolled into bed around 2, I think. I'm the only one up right now.
In other political news, we didn't abolish our state income tax. Possessing an ounce or less of marijuana is now a misdemeanor. And greyhound racing will be abolished starting, I think, next year.
I need to hit Costco or the big Target some miles away. That's my only big plan for the day besides reading entries ;)
I'm finding the election returns almost anti-climactic, because I never doubted Obama would win. Not for a second. So today I'm all like, "yeah, I told you so! Woot!"
I actually got sort of emotionally sidetracked by the crowd at McCain's concession speech booing when he said Obama's name, and missed half of Obama's speech writing about it. That's in my journal if anyone's interested. Looks like it might become my week 7 home game entry...
DC went nuts last night, partying in the streets until well after 3am [when I could finally fall asleep].
As for anything new in my life today... not a thing. We are still waiting to hear one last counter-offer on our house for some inspection-mandated repairs. We are taking off for Spain this afternoon. I will be visiting a famous museum tomorrow. I will try to hit the GR at least once per day in the evening.
And I am still wiping a few stray tears, between the news coverage, the looks on peoples faces, and the post after post in LJ.
For those who haven't seen it, I declared a bye - although an entry (non-political) started bouncing around last night. I may yet surprise myself.
Me? I'm exhausted and if I don't leave in 5 minutes i'm going to be late. But I got an extension on a project that has been eating my soul. :O so i am happy. now there's the question of catching up on homegame entries i've missed meantime as well as nanowrimo....
but i gotta run so i guess i'll figure those out later.
What's new? I can now tell my daughter with conviction that she can do anything she wants to. That's what's new and it's absolutely magical. And also, my hubby cried like a baby last night right there next to me. That's new, too. : )
I've discovered that if I wind up stay in this red state, this blue piece of a red state might not be so bad after all. (And believe me--it's very blue!)
Also, apparently Georgia's senate race is still really close. *keeps fingers crossed*
