What a morning! I hated to go to bed last night but I couldn't keep my eyes open. Waking up to the good news started my day off right! Woohoo! And the ballot questions in Massachusetts went the way I wanted them to as well. So I still have a job because our income tax is still in place. If it was abolished our agency surely would have closed.
I'm about to leave for surgery prep, and they will start poking around in my throat in two hours. No more tonsils of doom! So uh, if I don't respond to comments right away or at all it is because I'm befuddled by pain and medicines.
Woo Hoo! We've finally broken free of the regime! And NC is free of Elizabeth Dole, too! Could there be a better morning?
I got to have a wonderful homeschooling moment with my kids already. We sat down at the computer and I showed them pictures of our President-Elect, the current President, White House, and Oval Office. I explained some of the history of racism, how it's affected our family (you wouldn't know it to look at me, but I'm half Mexican), why people on the news and stuff keep bringing up his color and how I hope they'll remember this moment and continue to celebrate how our country grows...
I also explained a little bit about what Obama stands for. It's bittersweet but great to say, "Remember when we didn't have gas? And when we did, it cost so much that some people couldn't go anywhere? Remember when we lost our jobs and didn't have food for a while and had to go to that food bank? And how Daddy didn't want to go to the doctor when he got hurt because it costs so much money? That's the stuff our new President promises to work on. His color really shouldn't be the big story. Remember this."
I have a feeling that Californians, including our geek nation's beloved Mr. Sulu, are hardly going to say, "What, you just invalidated a whole bunch of our marriages? Oh, okay, that's fine." I expect court challenges basically immediately.
