[Poll #1169630]
(Paraphrased from a phone conversation with our host earlier today.)
So here we are – down to 17 amazing writers. We’ve come a long way together, haven’t we?
Now it is up to the voters to read the entries and vote for their favorites. Three people will be leaving us at the end of the vote this week.
Only you can determine who those three people are as we quickly dwindle down in the search for the next LJ Idol.
This week’s vote is open to everyone. Polls close Monday, April 14 at 1pm EDT.
Good luck!

Some more words
Date: 2008-04-11 07:23 pm (UTC)Granted, the voting has already taken off like a rocket, but I wanted people to take a moment to reflect on the fact that we have *17* people left. We started with 154, and one came in through the Home Game, so that's 155 people. 155 individuals have passed through this season. That's remarkable. That's humbling.
I can't say enough good things about the 17 remaining. They are an extremely diverse group of talented people. Is every one of them to *your* taste? No. Of course not. Grab 17 people off the street and you won't like all of them either. Have a second person do it, and they won't pick the same 17 that you did.
But these are people who have come at this competition from every angle, from people just out to have a good time, to people who have used it to make changes in their lives. There are folks who have gone through great personal tragedy in the time we have been together, and those who have experienced massive amounts of joy. They've been cheered, they've been harassed, hugged and told they should just quit.
But they didn't. For whatever reason, they continued to put themselves up on the biggest stage they could find, and stood there exposed saying "THIS IS WHO I AM".
Pride doesn't even come close to what I feel about these guys. Every last one of them.
They ARE my favorite group. This has been my favorite season, thus far.
Say what you want about people stirring things up. People are going to do that. It's what they do.
Rising above that though, and showing who you are despite all the noise they try to make to distract you. . . That's remarkable and absolutely every single one of you - heck every single person who's taken part in this or any other Season, regardless of how things worked out for you, should be proud of what you were able to do.
The finishing line is in sight. There is far less time in front of us than there is behind us. You've been at this for over SIX MONTHS now! That's well worth stopping and thinking about too.
Six months. Forming new friendships. In a couple cases I know of, forming new bonds with an old friends. Writing. You have been writing for over 6 months now - and that finish line, it's right over there. On top of that hill.
Do you have the strength to climb?
We're going to losing 3 of you this week. Three contestants. Three people who have come to mean a great deal to all of us. It's not going to be easy. As we get closer and closer to that finish line, as the incline increases, we will lose more every week, and it's going to be hard, because no matter who goes it's "not going to be their time". Because they are all amazing in their own way.
Anyway, I just wanted to take a moment, before things got too crazy in this thread, to actually say that. Because I don't say that nearly enough. Thank you to all of you - and to their fans, who are coming out to show them your support.

Date: 2008-04-12 01:30 am (UTC)Just go to the page for a poll you created, and you'll see a new link to close the poll.
I'm very excited about this and want to smack someone for not mentioning this in the release notes (though it was in the changelog and linked a few days ago from a very cool lurker). :)

Now, if LJ could create a link to clean my house...
