Doing okay. My face is healing up nicely, except my nose is still all painful. I think it's where the bruises are worst, so I'll just be keeping an eye on it...

Alliances are on my mind. The people heading them up. The people that have already joined them. The intent. Who is to be trusted and who isn't.


Do you think the way to beat an alliance is to vote for none of the people in the alliance?

There are all kinds of alliances. Organic ones between people who like and respect each other. Alliances between married or involved couples - or heck, siblings, promoting each other. Alliances between people who share a common goal.

Which ones are "legit"? Which ones are "good"? I think that's a question people have to answer for themselves and decide "is this something I want to see?"

Is it something that evens out the disadvantage people who have smaller friends lists have against those with bigger ones and thus just a boost? OR does it promote weaker players over stronger ones? Is it in your interest to take out the stronger players?

I love the questions, because they really are "how are you going to play" questions but usually end up hating the angst involved with them...*g*

a lot of these strategy questions come down to why you joined the game in the first place. if you are primarily here to win you may choose different strategies than someone here to make friends or write better.

there is no right or wrong way to play, having a strategy is smart, regardless of what that strategy is.

Of course you have to ask yourself, how much of your strategy do you want to reveal and how would it affect your votes if people knew about it.

I honestly don't know what to make of this alliance thing. On the one hand, I can certainly understand why the thought of needing to have one is there. On the other, there's the possibility it could go down in flames and other not-so-pretty stuff.

As a segue, our car broke down in the parking lot of Trader Joe's just as we were pulling out of our space. The tow truck came exactly 20 minutes after we placed the call to AAA when AAA said it'd be at least 2 hours. So yay on that!

Bad news? It could be the alternator. Or the timing mechanism. We won't know until Monday :(

I'm in HARRISBURG!!! Even more EST than in Johnstown, but I still made it to the green room late... :^/

We tried to go to Waffle House this morning, but when we got there, THEY WERE CLOSED. As in shut down, out of business, KAPUT. I about died. So we went to the other closest one, only to find the parking lot packed. Everyone who had found the other one closed had the same ideas as us. :^( So we went to TGI Fridays... Definitely not Waffle House, but it cured our current hunger.

I'm not really worried about alliances right now. There's still so many people in the competition that there isn't much of an impact yet. Wait until the top 50 and then things will start getting hairy.

We just ate an awesome dinner because it's what little Russ and Jake wanted, so I'll share with all of you. Chocolate chip pancakes and bacon!!! *shares*

I'm chilling (almost literally--ha!) in the university library here, and I just realized about an hour ago that I lost a bunch of notes I made for my major research project. So, I have to spend the next few hours trying to remake those notes and save them to three or four different places so it doesn't happen again. ;_;

On an LJIdol-related note, I haven't had time to leave comments on specific entries, but I just wanted to do a general shout-out to all of you guys (including kathrynrose, if I spelled that right)...it was a tough topic, and I think just about everyone handled it in fantastic and unique ways.

What ever happened to winning because you were a good writer?

I didn't have any "game" or strategy. Yes, I have a big friends list. But I've also had over 7 years of people adding and subtracting me because they enjoy my writing.

Yeah, well, no one will see this, either, and chances are even lower that people will care.

I have indirectly been called dishonest, a cheater, a liar, a manipulator, and hell-bent on winning. I am none of these things. Did I join the Alliance? Yep. Why? Because I was in a very short-lived one around the middle of the competition last year and it gave those of us who were being overlooked a leg up and I made some of the greatest friends that make LJ Idol worth being in. The competition is too big to get close to everyone. This made it reasonable and I bonded with these people. I didn't HAVE to vote for then, I WANTED to vote for them.

How is this dishonest? How is it cheating? First of all, anyone here at least likes the possibility of winning or they'd just be playing the home game. But I'm not in it to win. I'm in it to relate.

But apparently I'm dishonest. Apparently I only care about winning. With all the heart and soul I've put in to this, can anyone here seriously think that of me? Can all the trust I've put in all of you be so totally misplaced? Have I made a fool out of myself by putting myself out there just to be written off as a cheating liar? Apparently.

I am hurt and insulted and feel like I am scum in the eyes of this community. Is everyone so easily written off, or am I just lucky? Am I simply foolish for thinking anyone not in the "cool kids club" could really belong to this community? I was beginning to think of LJ Idol as a family, as my internet family. I seem to be the moron for trusting everyone when I'm so easily talked about right under my nose.

I'd be mad at all of you, but apparently I'm the worthless piece of shit. Apparently I'm the idiot, I'm the fool. Why do I bother? Maybe I shouldn't. Fuck this shit.

But ... what the heck y'all? I'm out of touch for like a week and the proverbial crap seems to hit the fan.

I'm kind of glad I'm not in the competition anymore. Which I never played as a contest anyway. And just for the record, nobody sways my vote, alliances or not. I'll continue to vote based purely on the strength (or lack thereof) of the individual entries.

Tis a shame, really. Here I thought people were looking to advance their writing skills, meet new people and possibly even widen their world-view perspectives. Sad to see how wrong I was.

I think a lot of us thought that, especially the newcomers (such as myself) to the game. I also think that's why this drama in the green room keeps happening because things keep happening within the game that seem to make the game ugly.
