It's especially sad because there are some truly great writers in this batch, and newbies didn't get the chance to read anything from them. Which is a huge loss to the competition, and to everyone's reading enjoyment.

Vote - Break Week

This week we had an "optional topic", where contestants were given the choice if they wanted to participate.

The majority of them, of course, stayed in their comfy beds beneath their warm and cozy blankets, laughing at the ~~idiots~~ ~~foolhardy~~ brave souls who decided to submit something. Many of them asked for their Mother.

But a few struck out and decided to write about New Year. Why? I don't know. I suspect childhood trauma of some kind. Or perhaps a blow to the head.

After all - they were told that there would be "the usual risks involved" if they decided to take this path.

Which is why I'm sorry to tell everyone that anyone submitting an entry this week has been automatically eliminated. . .

Gotcha.

Seriously though, I mean someone has come to their homes and taken them to a "special place" for an extended stay. . .

Wait, that's not right either.

*checks notes* Ah, wait, here's what ACTUALLY is happening!!

*mutters to the voices in my head* Really??? You're going to do that? *shrug* OOOOkkkkk. . . .

These contestants TOOK A CHANCE. Fortunate, they say, favors the bold. They also say that the universe looks after children and fools!

Apparently "they" are correct.

I promised "the usual risks" would be involved, and I meant it. The "usual risk" of submitting each week in Idol is that you have NO IDEA what is coming next! :)

No one will be eliminated this week. However, I have a goody bag left over from Christmas, full of a limited amount of presents. There are a limited amount of each. They will get to pick which present they want based on (from top vote getter to the bottom) their standing.

The poll will close Friday Dec 31st at 5pm EST. So there's not much time for reading. But fortunately, there's not too many entries to read either! Read them all! Vote for your favorites! It's also the chance to read people you might have missed before in the jumble of all those entries. This week was all about Deconstruction and from the entries over the past weeks I think it's pretty clear that this is an extremely talented group.
This is going to another difficult decision on choosing what entries to support.

In a time without heroes, a world without hope - 3 riders appeared on the horizon in our hour of need.

Unfortunately there was only space for two of them to come into town. So we had them write entries on "Making Fire" and put up a poll to see which ones were going to save us all. The one with the lowest vote would not be making the journey.

And write them they did! Now there is only the poll remaining before them and riding into town to battle the flesh rendering forces of evil!!!!

Unfortunately, always a crowd favorite,

thenodrin missed the deadline this week and has been eliminated. Hopefully everything is OK.

As I know many of you surmised there is no poll this week.

It is a Contestant Only vote.

Vote - Week 16 Run Off

What a crazy week!! How better to cap it off with a run off that involves even more curve balls!

Before the poll, battle_kitten did decide to drop to allow others to go further in the competition. She did let me know that she was planning on sticking around, so it's not "goodbye" so much as it is "Hello Home Game!"

We are still going forward with the poll though, and there will be an elimination since it was a "pre-poll drop".

Which means that the two individuals who missed the deadline will also be leaving us. Farewell to az_starshine and daughterofodhin.

It just goes to show that anything can happen, and often does.

We will still be losing one of the contestants who submitted "Making Fire" entries. It's still a quite a large run off.

So read the entries and cast vote for your favorites. Their fate is in your hands. The contestant with the fewest votes will be eliminated.

Unfortunately we start this right off needing to say goodbye to kandigurl, who missed the deadline for the run off. I hope it was hula hoop related, because let's face it, that's pretty damn awesome. If we have to lose you, that is at least to a decent cause.

Voting - Week 6

As sure as the sun rises in the morning, there is a another LJ Idol poll.

The first thing you will probably notice is that there are a lot of "byes" this week. The holiday season, between Thanksgiving and Christmas, tends to be rather "bye-heavy" as a lot of people end up giving themselves a break to deal with family and assorted real life issues. Which just means that everyone not taking their bye, or if you have already used them up - it means the pressure is on!

Of course, for people taking them, it means there is that much less of a safety net between them and being eliminated. Bringing everyone else that much closer to the end.

Hopefully, the next thing you will notice is the new tribes that were selected by the new Tribe Leaders! Thanks again guys for your assistance in choosing your new tribe mates.

Voting - Week 2

Trick or treat?

It's not only the demand disguised as a question that children will be screaming at many of you this weekend, it is the question before the voters: Which treats are they going to indulge and encourage, and which entries struck them as more of a trick? Honestly though I think people are going to be hard pressed to find any tricks. This is another batch of entries that is bound to keep you quite busy this weekend with your eyes glued to the screen.

Different people have different tastes. So there really is no way to find out without putting it out there. Some people like the chocolate and other people like - well, they like other stuff. Whatever is left in the bag after you've eaten all the chocolate I guess!

There are some incredible entries this time around, and quite frankly a lot of early byes. It will be fascinating to see how that impacts the results, both now and in the coming weeks.

Unfortunately, due to RL, fwtallgirl won't be continuing on this journey with us. But hopefully she will be able to make it out for the Home Game!

We will be losing the bottom vote-getter from each tribe. So make sure to support the entries that you love, and maybe, just maybe, their ghosts won't end up haunting you.*

(*OK, they probably will regardless. These folks strike me as the "haunting" type)

and one of these writers, these incredible women who have allowed us to share the last 7 1/2 months with them.

That's what we set out to do what sometimes seems like a lifetime ago, and other times an all too brief period of time - to find one more to join the ranks of earning the title of LJ IDOL

These three have certainly done that, they have fought to get here, they have endured - and they have grown.

154 contestants were with us that first day. One more came along to join us from the Home Game.

Now there are three, and we are about to have our final vote of the season. Now it is time for us, as a community and as LJ as a whole, to do our duty one more time. To support our favorites one more time. . .

People have asked me: "How should I vote? Should I vote on the final entry or the entire season?"

Every time I don't think that I can be any more impressed with this group of writers, they manage to surprise me.

Absolutely stellar job this week with THREE entries a piece. Which would have been hard. So they had an even *more* difficult task - picking which one out of the three to subject to the vote!

Vote! Week 27

It's one shake-up after another. But by now, you're pretty much used to that. Anyone who knows where the next step is going to be at this point is either fooling themselves, or well they know me pretty well!*G*

I gave the jury time to deliberate before results started coming in because their decision was going to be a hard one. They didn't realize it was going to be making one of the biggest impacts in the game thus far!

Which is only appropriate considering that this is the last week where the jury is in place.

I gave them the usual instructions. Read the entries and rank your favorites 1-7 (1 being the best). I told them to do this separately with each topic.

Which means, you would think, that we would be handing out TWO IMMUNITIES this week right?

*shakes head* Nope.

Because it's the person with the lowest vote total in the first one, the person with the lowest vote total in the second, and the person (other than those two) with the lowest *COMBINED* vote total.

That's right, in a field of 7, *3* of them are off the hook this week and have a spot in our Top 5. The other four will have to fight for those last two spots!!

Who has immunity? It was *close* in all categories, but in the end the three spots went to:
