Which is either an impressive list of people, or a list of impressive people. Either way, things in SCI just got a little hotter, and the main competition just went from “interesting” to “insane”.

When it’s a cast of hundreds, it takes longer to get to know people - but you also have the advantage of being able to relax into the competition. With a mini-season, there is more of a chance to interact, but when the cuts come, they are brutal.

There are advantages and disadvantages in everything.

The one good thing about the main competition, is that when you leave you are sticking around in the ranks of Second Chance Idol. Lately that has meant even being in the same post as you were before, just further down! But it also puts you dangerously close to being out “for real”. Which is somewhere that you don’t want to be!

Before we get to the poll, we did have one contestant who did not make the deadline, and will be adding to the SCI talent poll: occasionally

Which is a shame, but hopefully she will be back next week in SCI and fight her way into the competition once more!

As for the rest of you, that just means that there will be 9 contestants leaving us this week! Yeah, I said that. Again. People might start thinking there is a pattern to this thing!

Awww, Second Chance! You are just so earnestly going about your business... of course I’m going to stop and buy something... oh wait, sorry, I’ve gotten SCI and the Girl Scouts confused again! SCI doesn’t have delicious boxes of cookies. Or maybe they do... *looks around* I think they are hiding them.

Which is just one more reason to vote them out!!

Unfortunately, three of them denied us that act, and missed the deadline, eliminating themselves! Leaving us are: momebie, ohelectricshock and sweeny_todd - which were not names that I expected to be writing down as leaving us anytime soon. Real life, it can happen to anyone!

With them out of the way, we will be losing 7 contestants from the ranks of SCI, and the most dangerous place to be, just gets a little more exciting!

Friend of Idol (and mine) Jeremy Cowles, and the rest of his co-workers, at Pixar won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature last night for their work on Brave!

Which is awesome. Really proud of him.

Tonight, I got to close a poll and make this official post, eliminating some folks and sending others to Second Chance. Which is almost the same thing, right?

I’m pretty sure that it is!

We had two polls, one for the main competition, and one for Second Chance. Since the latter has a bit more of an immediate impact, that is the first one that I will be announcing.

Unfortunately, we will have to say goodbye to four contestants this week.

I’ll admit, I’m pretty shocked to have the bottom half of the poll going at once, especially with the level of talent involved. Hopefully they stick around and play the Home Game!

Which brings us to those moving to their new home in Second Chance Idol, where they will be hanging by their fingertips for a fast approaching shot at getting back into the game!

There were 10 people being eliminated from the main competition this round, reducing our ranks by a ⅓ lot! Regardless of where the poll ended up falling, it was going to a brutal result.

One night. Two polls. No waiting!

The main competition, having just recovered from taking a major hit last week, is about to experience another one!

The bottom 10 from this poll will be joining in the shark tank that is Second Chance Idol. Spoiler: There are actual sharks that are about to be released into the tank. Shhh.. don’t mention that to them, let’s keep this our surprise, OK?

The rest will live on, with a constant sense of dread making their bolt upright in bed in the middle of the night.

Everything is fine here at SCI. It’s a nice, clean tank perfect for swimming in. Not a single thing to be worried about at all.

It was “real life” that took out annaonthemoon and noodledays, they told us themselves.

aravfiel, belgatherial, barrelofrain and maerhys may have been slightly more mysterious circumstances. But I trust they are well, somewhere. Possibly at a farm, where there is plenty of room to run around.

Because of this, we will only be losing 4 of our SCI friends this week. Isn’t that nice? Well, except for four of them...

Note: We also had a tie-breaker to resolve from last week. They had to write an entry for the main competition as well as SCI in order to stay in in the hunt. Both of them succeeded in this task. Their entries can be found here:

Happy President’s Day! Today is the day where we gather ‘round and tell stories about our favorite US Presidents, and make dioramas featuring their incredible exploits. I chose to make mine about the day Benjamin Harrison rose from his grave to close the Idol poll and eliminated all of those people!

First, he handled the Second Chance poll, which, if we are going to start anywhere it really should be there. After all, anyone else on the list might be eliminated from the main competition, but they automatically are entered in SCI.

The people in SCI - they are eliminated completely. Granted, they can - and even Lil Ben hopes that they will, play the Home Game.

But it’s extra sad to be saying goodbye to them.

It is another week, and another shot at Redemption for the Second Chance Idol folks. What is also becoming a trend is a high dropout rate from their ranks.

The past two weeks this has saved everyone else. Not this time around!

Before we get to that though, we have to deal with the goodbyes. Thank you to the people who have come out to play, even if they didn’t get to stay with us very long:

It wouldn't be the final week of Second Chance Idol without some unexpected twists! We lose three who didn't make it to the starting gate, three strong contenders to get back into the competition, including the guy who keeps passing on moving up! Then we have someone who I thought was moving up decide to stay in SCI until the bitter end!

Add to that someone who never made it to the starting line in the first place posting and for such a small poll, there was a lot of action to be had!

Of the remaining contestants, it's pretty straight forward. One final poll. The top half of vote getters moves up, the bottom half is eliminated.

It's that time again. Fortunately, with the Second Chance results, I am able to give some people good news as well as delivering the bad.

It makes for a more "mixed reaction post" but, eventually everyone will be leaving SCI one way or another - and from there, everyone but one person will be exiting from this season of Idol.

So, it's something that everyone will have to face at some point. Given that this week features exclusively veterans, in both the coming and the going, I know that's something that they know all too well.

Saying it doesn't make it any better, but maybe there is some solace in that notion. Maybe.

It's the evening you have been waiting for - the first class of Second Chance Idolers have the opportunity to move up to the main competition tonight.
They will be joining, or in some cases, re-joining the main fray and the hunt for 1 million dol. . . oops, wrong show. . . the hunt to become the LJ IDOL!

Before that though, we have the bad news. There is at least a little mixed news as well. But one part of it is definitely bad. We have to say goodbye to someone. Because as the opportunity opens up for some, it ends for others, as they rejoin the Home Game.

We were going to eliminate 2 people this week, but there was a 3-way tie for the second spot, which means we will only be losing one.

Which is why I said it was "mixed". That's good news for those three, but it's still bad for the one person who has been eliminated.
