It used to be that if I were even a little bit late posting a Green Room, people would be upset. If there was a day when one didn't go up at all, I'd have a dozen emails, at least.
I got completely swamped at work and life in general has been pretty overwhelming - and 1 person checked in on me. Thank you to that person. :)
I'm doing OK.
How are you?
It also occurs to me that part of the reason for that email was because most of us were already friends. Whereas, even 13 weeks in there are people that I'm not certain actually know each other very well.
So how about it? What are some stuff about you that folks might be surprised to learn? (that you feel like sharing)
Or just ask something you'd really like to know about your fellow contestants! (and those lurking)

People might be surprised to learn that the Second Chance poll is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/996359.html and that the main competition topic is up as well: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/997016.html But that would just prove they haven't really been paying attention. Because I've mentioned those things before!

Date: 2017-03-25 06:05 am (UTC)I definitely do not consider most contestants friends, it takes quite a few one-on-one interactions to happen, but quite a few have become friendly acquaintances, which is very nice.
Well, I am swamped. I have a new position at work, a was just made the scientific secretary of our department (not sure what the equivalent would be in the English a speaking word). Basically, I have to learn what all work groups are doing, yesterday, and also next week I start organizing a local conference which is basically telling a lot of young people "you're it. Come out hear and tell everyone what your group is doing" (the conference is made specifically so that newer colleagues have a chance at public sparking in a friendly-errrr situation).
I will have to be forceful about it, coz some of them would be afreaid to come out and play. So to answer Gary's question, older colleagues worry I don't have enough steel in my spine yet for this. What they don't know is that things have changed. But fingers crossed that they have changed enough, this is my first test.

Date: 2017-03-25 06:05 am (UTC)I feel like at this point, after eleventy eleven non-fiction LJ posts, people know alllll they want to know about me. :P
And more.
But I'm open for questions, should there be any.
Also, in honor of the late hour, I set up a coffee bar (and I do mean bar) in the corner. I like a little Bailey's in my coffee. :)

Date: 2017-03-25 06:09 am (UTC)Originally, we had reservations for she and two friends to get a private lesson at a trapeze studio about an hour from here. Then, last weekend, her very best friend broke her ankle at a ninja warrior-style gym and the other got in super big trouble and is grounded till April.
New plan! Cancel trapeze lesson. Broken ankle friend and another girl and three of her guy friends come to the house for pizza and cookie cake and video games.
Fate laughs maniacally! During a storm Wed. a tree fell on best guy friend's mom's car, other guy friend had to travel to his mom's unexpectedly. Dammit!
New plan! Third time's the charm! Broken ankle friend comes over alone tonight. I still got pizza and cookie cake and after, the three of us went to see TWO movies at the theater - Get Out, her first R rated movie - it was awesome if you like thrillers! - and then Beauty and the Beast - which I felt was beautifully done.
Also, we were the only ones in the theater for the 10:50 Beauty show, so she and her friend were sending pics on SnapChat saying her mom rented a theater so they could have the place to themselves, lol!
Phew. Birthday salvaged.

Date: 2017-03-25 06:56 am (UTC)I think about what Gary was saying off and on, especially in the Days Before Facebook where LJ was the place to be and how quickly people became friends both on and off LJ. One thing I learned early on in my internet forays -- this is going back to the late 90s/early 00s -- is that a lot of that *friendship* is illusion in the sense that, like in many work-related relationships, it only survives within that particular framework. If something changes within the dynamic, so does that *friendship* because it doesn't *exist* in real time.
There are exceptions, of course. I know plenty of friendships which debunk this whole thing. My husband and I initially met through an online forum and we're both still friendly on Facebook with a lot of our fellow forum members, but none of us as cozy/close/revealing as we were on the forum. Ditto for Idol.
I need more coffee. And maybe breakfast.

Date: 2017-03-27 02:03 am (UTC)Things people might be surprised to know about me. Hmm. I don't know many of the LJ Idol people, so that leaves a lot. So a few:
1) I am a quilter. I'm the youngest in my quilting guild by almost 20 years, but I really enjoy it.
2)I love to read. I just finished my 18th book of 2017 today. I usually finish between 85-100 within a calendar year.
3)I am an animal person, especially cats. If I am somewhere new, chances are I am a making friends with their cat. My mother dubbed me a "cat magnet" after I was sitting in a garden in Ireland and this random cat just jumps in my lap, demanding to be petted.

Date: 2017-03-27 04:16 am (UTC)I don't know that there's anything super surprising about me.
My daughter went to prom on Saturday evening. Her hair matched her dress perfectly. It was awesome and amazing. I think she had fun. No date - out with our "complicated" family for dinner and pictures before hand.
I'm trying to reorganize my stuff and it's umm slow going.
I am picking up phone shifts again for The wildlife rescue. It's the hardest thing for us to staff and I hate it but it's only 2 hour shifts now.
