You matter.

Well, maybe you the specific you, but the general "you". :)

Within the confines of Idol, none of you matter of course. But in the broader sense - you all do. Please remember that.

First. So there.

ETA: I matter because I'm first. Not really, but I haven't been first in a long time, and now that I am I will tell you my really long saga of what happened this morning.

So, a friend who lives on the opposite side of the planet says, "Are you awake, I'm going to call you" and we agree that I need fifteen mins or so to grab caffeine and feed the cats and she is in the car, so she will call me when she gets where she is going.

So I go into the kitchen and decide I'm hungry enough to risk hurrying to cook breakfast in that amount of time.

So, of course, as I begin cooking, I drop an egg. It hits the edge of the countertop and slimes its way down the front of the cabinet and pools on the floor.

Can I tell you how fucking hard it is to clean up an egg while sitting in a wheelchair? I mean, I've gotten pretty good at regular stuff while in the chair, but this is hard, plus I am trying not to burn my breakfast, plus I'm about to get a phone call, plus I haven't fed the cats yet and Mimi is pissed.

And then, in the middle of all this I hear the horrible yeowling of what can only be a serious cat fight. Inside my house. This never happens. So I wheel myself into the living room and somehow Tabby has gotten his claw stuck in the pad of Opie's foot and can't let go.

It's clear neither of them want to be in this position, and neither can stop it from happening, and Opie is fleeing to higher ground, and he has exceeded bulky Tabby's limit for height on the cat tree, and they're in this weird kind of seven-legged race.

So, I wheel myself into the hissing and spitting, and get them unstuck, and start checking for injuries while my food is cooking and there is still slimy egg on the floor.

Mimi has disappeared and is no longer asking for food.

Meanwhile, I'm sure the phone is going to ring any moment, and even though this is 2017, my very old brain is thinking, "It's long distance." (young people, get an old fart to explain that to you)

So I turn off the burner and save my breakfast and I remember to pour salt on the egg to help clean it up (though to be fair, there is still salt on my floor) and I set out cat food and after all that, there's a skype problem and we end up postponing the call.

How was your morning?

Yeah, and all this before 8 am.

And I still have the adrenaline from it.

And now I really want chocolate and/or liquor.

How about a chocolate liqueur? ;)

That would be enough to make me grumpy for the rest of the day! Ugh- egg. I did not know that about salt, does it really work? Hugs

It does. :) It's a very old trick. The salt crystals glom onto the egg, and reduce the viscosity. Less slimy, more gritty - easier to gather with a paper towel.

Dang! And I was annoyed at myself for spilling half my cereal on the floor. That is nothing compared to your morning! I hope the rest of your day is less ~exciting, so to speak.

Thanks. We're having scattered thunderstorms here. I might just drag my butt back into the bed and stay there all day!

I would definitely turn around and take myself right to bed after that!

The has been some napping, but that was also interrupted.

I just re=checked Opie's foot. It's tender and he wishes I would, "Don't touch it, Mom!"

Tabby was freaked for a while (he is skittish sometimes) but he's lying on the carpet right now, where the sun should be shining if it wasn't overcast. :)

Hoo, boy...

This is like Murphy's Law hit a chaos vector and spewed all over your house.

That is no way to start a day. :(

Oh no! All that and your call didn't work out either. Some days it's better to just stay in bed.

In other news, anyone who enjoyed season one of Serial should check out In the Dark.

Or, anyone who is thinking about writing about crime in rural areas. These people really did their research.

Thanks for this—my best friend was super-into Serial and has been looking for new podcasts to listen to. I'll recommend it to him. :)

Ooh! Also - I just went looking at "top" podcasts, and saw the number one was Missing Richard Simmons. I thought it was a joke, but it totally isn't.

Listened to the first three episodes. The guy who's doing it used to be a producer on The Daily Show, and he's a friend of Richard's.

It brings up all kinds of feelings for me. I've loved Richard since he was on General Hospital a million years ago before he was famous.

Anyway, was just surfing around reading things about it, and someone on twitter had said, "if you have Serial withdrawal, try Missing Richard Simmons."

I have to agree, though it's not about crime. That we know of.

I'm still picking my jaw up off the floor from Season 1, Episode 4 of LEGION.

This show has been ASTONISHING from the get-go, but S1.4 launches it into the stratosphere. AND...there's a BELOVED cult actor who makes an unbelievably delicious appearance in this episode and I nearly swooned with joy.

I hope everyone is watching. It's sooooooooooooo good. The acting, the cinematography, the sets are all stellar but its the writing that is blowing my mind - complicated, multi-layered and deeply thought-provoking.

My students matter today. We have a writing contest going on st school. I'm reading about 50-70 poems and essays. I want to leave a comment for each kid who tried. They aren't " my" specific students as I have the non- " typical" ones who aren't able to creatively write and compete at this level. I wish there was a place for " my" students. If only " HernĂ¡n" could enter his art! He'd blow everyone elas away! Anyway, I'm reading. The entries are number coded so it's a blind contest. The honesty is amazing.

I'm also still reeling over some sad news I got over the weekend and confirmed yesterday.

Sorry about your news.

Could your students have an art exhibition? Seems so unfair that the can't show off their abilities. Too often in society were are defined by what we can't do, rather than what we can.

I'm dealing with two sick doggies :( They both picked up one of those nasty parasites no doubt from sniffling deposits other dog parents *should* have picked up IYKWIM. The upshot is both of them are on antibiotics and probiotics and they can't go to the park or anywhere where a lot of dogs are. I have to make their food, which is really limited and probably boring as hell to them. The antibiotics are throwing them for an utter loop. They get retested tomorrow. Our vet warned me that this condition is particularly stubborn, so don't be surprised if the regimen continues :/

I hope so too. From what I've read, though, it can be very difficult to get rid of it. It's particularly sticky with them because they share a water bowl and always *check* each other's dinner bowls. Then there's the backyard. ARGH.
