The new topic thread is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/989342.html

So is the poll for Second Chance: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/988636.html

There is also a couple more joining the 100 Weeks club: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/988997.html

This is the start of that period where there is a lot going on.

Which is when it's always a good time to ask - How are you planning on standing out from the crowd? It's a question for every week really, because there are *always* things going!

Or, to turn this around to address you as the reader - What can the rest of the crowd be doing to get, and keep, YOUR attention?

Since I just looked it up here's a wikipedia link:

Now I want to spend the evening listening to all of those songs.

Sorry Beeker! I didn't see you there before I wrote! I guess a link would've been much better. Silly woman, me. Hugs

Actually, what you did was nice, too. Because it let us not do any extra movements ;-). Or, turned another way, it gave us a starting point at once.

Thanks for linking that. My mind automatically went to

blue=police
blue=sad
blue=bawdy

Now I'm thinking about this song I used to absolutely love, but apparently is too obscure for the internet.

At twilight, when the world is blue
I can't help but think of you
And I don't know why that's when I cry
At twilight when the world is blue....

Lisa Nemzo. Damn, that was a long time ago. :P

This dates me no doubt, but back in the day if a comedian was said "to work blue" there would be cussing and sex jokes. It dates me, doesn't it? Also bawdy. (Grin)

Frist! For the first time ever!!!

Ok here's what wiki says-

1) The blue hour (from la hora azul in Spanish, or from l'heure bleue in French) is the period of twilight early in the dawn each morning and late in the dusk each evening when the sun is at a significant distance below the horizon and the residual, indirect sunlight takes on a predominantly blue hue. This effect is caused by the relative diffusibility of short blue wavelengths of light versus the longer red wavelengths. During the blue "hour" (typically a period about 40 minutes in length), red light passes straight into space while blue light is scattered in the atmosphere and therefore reaches the earth's surface. Many artists treasure this period because of the quality of the light.

2) The blue hour is famous for its romantic connotations, particularly in the arts. A colloquial French saying characterises the blue hour as a time of confusion and mystery, since it is impossible to determine whether it is really night or day.

As a result of the perceived specialness of this time, there are various restaurants, theatres and hotels called L'Heure Bleue located worldwide. There is also a women's perfume by Guerlain (1912) of the same name.

3) In English culture the term was used to describe the period of inactivity and uselessness a drinker encounters when pubs and other licensed premises have closed after the lunch-time session (typically 3:30 pm), but have not yet opened for the evening session (typically 6:30 pm). The blue hour has now been largely abolished in England, Scotland and Wales in favour of all-day opening.

Seems everything relevant was there! Now, to rummage around in the brainpan and shake an idea loose... hugs everyone!

Hey, here in the south there's still a fair amount of that! In lots of the places where I climb you can't buy beer on Sunday.

Me too!

They still close in many European countries, and while that could be inconvenient, part of me also think it's right, coz everyone has a right to regular days off. (Of course, I've never had to leave in a country that enforces that right, haha.)

This could take interesting direction.

Things coming to mind at present:

1.Most cherished moment.

2.The darkest hour in one's life/light at the end of the tunnel or vice -versa.

3.Travel story.

4. A code for something (mystery)

5. Photography

In Iceland, during the summer, pretty much the entire wee-hours of the morning have that blue color, since the sun never really goes *down* all the way. It's pretty wild the first few nights, but then you get used to it and can't imagine it any other way. I also had the thought of the Blue Fairy, fairies in general, and what magical things might come out of the blue hour to do with the fine folk.

LJ ate the comment I tried to write in the morning, grr.

Anyway. From the French wiki: the blue hour is also the hour when the birds start singing, and when the flowers are supposed to smell extra sweet.

It is also called the time entre chien et loup, between the dog and the wolf, i.e., the time when you cannot distinguish the two. And that puts and entirely different spin on it, because it could also mean that you are between the rock and the hard place, or going from the frying pan and into the fire.

Case in point, I will add a Rutger Hauer movie I like to the list of movies in the English Wiki article linked above: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woman_Between_Wolf_and_Dog set during WWII, in which a Belgian woman is stuck between her collaborationist husband and her Nazi lodger/lover.

I guess that's why John Singer Sargent chose to paint that hour in Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnation,_Lily,_Lily,_Rose)

One of my favorite American watercolorists/portrait painter. Was just showing my hubs some of his works as Phila. Museum of Art is doing a special showing of American Watercolor Artists! I love that medium more than oil/acrylic painting.
