Green Room - Week 10 - Day 1
Feb. 27th, 2017 09:47 amLast night, we had results, in which we learned that La La Land was eliminated from the competi... oh wait, sorry. I read that wrong.
Moonlight was eliminated... oh wait, that wasn't it either.
My bad.
There were results however, and they involved sacrifices and a Write-off! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/984904.html So make sure you check that out!

The new topic is also up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/985303.html with it's Work Room: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/985477.html

We also have some questions about byes. Well, one specific one that I've decided to address in the Green Room.
The question was (essentially) "How can we get 'additional byes'"? Because real life interfered early on and now there's actually an *important* reason to miss the deadline (getting married)
There are people with extra byes. Some of them got them from being a Patron https://www.patreon.com/user?u=70027 and others earned them for taking part in the challenge during Break Week.
Patron byes *have* to be used for someone else. The Break Week ones are personal use.
If you are someone with an extra bye (from either of those methods), or just haven't had to take any time off, and you *want* to give one to someone else, you can.
It's called a "Gift Bye". You are giving part of your Idol life to someone else to allow them to survive an extra week.
If you are someone in need - it doesn't hurt to put out a call for someone to help. I can't personally advocate either way on what anyone can do or "should" do, because it's your game and asking someone to put their own game at risk for someone else? That's not something I can do. BUT, when it happens, it's always a kind gesture to witness.

Date: 2017-02-27 04:14 pm (UTC)Now that most people have used at least one of theirs, how different do you feel when you have 2 byes to just the 1, to none?
I felt pretty secure when I had the 2, but since I used one of them, I constantly fear that I will use the last one, and then bye-out the very next week, or that something will come up after I have used it and I will really need it. This fear is kind of irrational, but it is present.

Date: 2017-02-27 05:33 pm (UTC)It was bonkers.
I'm a newbie, so I don't have any experience with this Idol thing. However, I definitely felt more secure before I used that bye than I do now.

Date: 2017-02-27 04:16 pm (UTC)So glad Affleck won for best actor. His performance was fantastic.
I remember when watching the award shot was so important to me. Now, meh.

(haven't watched a lot of the other stuff, but planning on it)

Date: 2017-02-27 05:54 pm (UTC)I am drawn to the classic styles, the more modest choices. Loved Emma Stone's dress, and Nicole Kidman's. There were a couple of black dresses and one red, can't remember the actress's name, but she played Washington's wife in Fences.

Date: 2017-02-27 06:12 pm (UTC)For instance, only documentary makers can nominate a documentary... so, "The Thin Blue Line," which was on a lot of "Best 10 of the year" lists did not get nominated, because it was SO far beyond the usual documentary that it pissed its competitors off.
Al Pacino winning Best Actor for a terrible performance because, "Gee, we wish we'd given it to him years ago." "The Player" nominated for Best Screenplay because Hollywood loves pictures about itself, while "The Rapture" and "Deep Cover" (more interesting stories by the same screenwriter) were never nominated in their own years.
Ang Lee being snubbed for Best Director for racist assumptions about his abilities.
I could go on... :(
I've kind of disinvested over the years, obviously. ;)

Date: 2017-02-27 06:46 pm (UTC)Granted, I haven't read the books for most of those. But I'd still say The Player should have won that for taking the source material and taking it to the next meta-level. (it helps that the same person wrote both)

Date: 2017-02-27 07:03 pm (UTC)I will google In Memorial later today, because there is always someone I didn't know about. The Academy has always been too political for my taste, but I am just not a political critter, unless something annoys me. (Blush)

Date: 2017-02-27 09:22 pm (UTC)In fact, there honestly is quite a bit of common ground there, and his direction showed that he very much DID understand it.

Date: 2017-02-27 10:37 pm (UTC)You know what? I'm going to watch Sense and Sensibility right now! That'll show 'em!
And this year...Four people of colour (do we still say that?) won. Sigh. I haven't watched Moonlight or Loving. They are on my list.
In so many ways the world can't move fast enough, in others we need to hit the break. (I'm not hard to please. Wink)

Date: 2017-02-27 05:01 pm (UTC)If I survive this week's topic, getting byed out the following week would totally suck, so if there are any Patrons or regular Idolers out there who wouldn't mind sending a gift bye my way, I would be forever grateful...

Date: 2017-02-27 05:29 pm (UTC)2. My goal this season is not to use any of my byes, so you can have one of mine.
3. Profit!
