A friend, on the book that is full of faces, posted this http://spcsnaptags.tumblr.com/post/115253287239/dude-social-fallacies and I thought it was important enough to share.

Granted, the Idol audience is overwhelmingly female and perhaps the vast majority of you have read this before (or if you haven't, this isn't new territory. But (1) you never know who you might reach and (2) and this is the important one for me - despite the name this IS NOT a list of fallacies involving when you can and can not use the term "Dude", which may or may not be what I thought when I was half asleep this morning and clicked on the link.

Something that I will never mistake for something else, is this week's poll: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/983712.html

I will also know where to find the Second Chance sign-up sheet: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/981280.html, which *please* be telling folks about. I'm not saying there is something special for the 1,000th new person through the doors... but there's a lot that I'm not saying.

First! I'm surprised that "dude" is still around. Slang disappears over time, or at least becomes unfashionable, or worse, uncool. I wonder how long internet slang words will last?

I'll see your Tumblr post and raise you an NPR article about how hashtag feminism focuses too much on appearance and not enough on reality. (http://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2017/02/21/515799019/today-s-feminism-too-much-marketing-not-enough-reality)

Oh, wow, that's my post! :)

I thought it was interesting from the perspective of someone who has dated and works with men. Obviously not everyone's like that, but there are enough that it's worth poking at.

That post had so much good and interesting stuff in it.

And I'm not just talking about the concept of "Schroedinger's Douchebag," which is a hilarious and accurate description of an actual behavior that has yet to die.

I not only thought "Dude" would die out, I never expected to see the day when women would use it when talking to each other. Even though "Man" is used, but it no longer references an actual person-- it's more like, "Geez".

Other women referring to me as "dude"? No thanks!

The bratasaurus's favorite word to address someone! The kids swear its universal. LOL

Does anyone remember the prompt EO gave us last mini season that was the Japanese word for something having more value because it is flawed?

Thanks! Peace!

It might be universal to their generation, but certainly not to mine!

I think the prompt was Shibusa, although that was more "perfection by simplicity" and confounded me for ages because it was the opposite of my personal aesthetic.

Until I found something that made it work for me, but it was still a little more abstract than that, because No.

My Dad once criticized my sister's "cottage garden," saying "Haven't you ever heard the saying 'less' is more?" To which she said, "If you know me at all, you'd know that MORE is more."

I'm not at her level, but still... too much simplicity seems spartan and sterile to me (and thus, depressing). :O

haha, I am a female who has the bad habit of calling EVERYONE dude in informal settings, it does seem to fall into a category of "hippie speak" I also say things like "far out" and "right on" unironically

dude has gotten me into trouble with trans gal friends who feel I am misgendering them but it really is a gender neutral word in my brain

The rebirth of "bro" culture in the last few years has made me want to change my  way of speaking though tbh

It's funny to note that before the 60s the original term "Dude Ranch" implied a "dandy" tourist in the american west
