Date: 2017-02-08 02:32 pm (UTC)I write fantasy. I read fantasy, historical fiction, and weighty Victorian tomes. There's a lot of overlap in the first two genres, but weighty tomes are a bit beyond my ambition.
I finally found a way to avoid The Donald on Firefox: Make Donald Duck Again. (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/make-donald-duck-again/) Added, installed, and approved.

Date: 2017-02-09 03:48 am (UTC)As my college advisor once said, "Most people's lives are boring. You have to inject some kind of fiction into it in order to engage the reader." It can be done with editing (Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House" books are a prime example of this), or by transposing situations in order to make the narrative flow, maybe altering an actual event via place and/or time, things like that. Another big thing are characterizations. Maybe a character is a composite of several people, or s/he could be heavily based on somebody IRL but not exactly that particular person because you fictionalize him/her enough so as not to be recognized. I wrote an entry a topic or two ago which was heavily based on a manager I'd had years ago. That manager and the situation I wrote about actually happened but I fictionalized parts of it to make it a story rather than a straight "Well, this happened, the end".
U iz not dum BTW.

Date: 2017-02-09 03:29 pm (UTC)I've never heard of this as a genre. I suppose it's akin to "based on a true story"?

Date: 2017-02-08 03:38 pm (UTC)Lady Gaga - I was impressed and loved her belly.
Iron Fist - I have no idea what this is.
TWD - I'm sorry. I had to run screaming. THAT is torture porn. Textbook variety. Terrible stuff. The writers despise their female fans.
Okay, that's out of the way. You looking for a Top 25 today?
I love to write:
hillbilly vernacular
contemporary myth
fairy/folk tale
Death & the Maiden
flash fiction
I love to read:
the British Novel
the post-moderns
dirty realism
Southern Goth

Date: 2017-02-08 04:26 pm (UTC)So, the writing is sort of the same. I write what I'm given to write. I have no idea where it comes from, or what inspires it. I guess a lot of the time I like to write open-ended stuff, but that's not a genre. (Shrugs) I have no idea what I write. Words. I always try to write words.
I've got three minutes to get my butt in the shower. Argh!

Date: 2017-02-08 06:14 pm (UTC)What do I enjoy writing? Well, I write a lot from own life. Essays.
I could not get into The Walking Dead at all. Most of it was the ick factor, but part of it was things like "How are the zombies not being scavenged? Shouldn't maggots have eaten their soft parts? Wouldn't the humidity of Georgia make them rot?

Date: 2017-02-08 07:18 pm (UTC)I lean toward fantasy, sci fi, mysteries, crime to read. I write whatever hits me to write (usually fiction but with experience). With Idol, I've found myself trying to fit the genre to the topic which is good practice for me.
Lady Gaga looked and was awesome!!! The Falcons not so much. Most of the commercials not so much :(.

Date: 2017-02-08 07:44 pm (UTC)I like to read SciFi, Fantasy, chick lit, poetry, nonfiction if it's not politics/government - I adore true stories or "based on" true stories about animals, like Dewey the library cat.
I thought Lady GaGa rocked the halftime show, and was very impressed with her quick costume changes and overall athleticism. I didn't notice anything about her belly, she's gorgeous!

Date: 2017-02-09 03:40 am (UTC)I like to read Fantasy/sci fi/distopian fiction. I also like mysteries and historical fiction. I will read almost anything especially if there a good story.
I like to write poetry, non-fiction and fictionalized non-fiction. I haven't managed fantasy that I have been happy with

Date: 2017-02-09 03:56 am (UTC)I like fiction which is based in real time, I guess you could say? I don't particularly care for dystopia nor fantasy. I do like a good mystery every so often, though. I also have a soft spot for the classics. It's the English teacher still in me ;)
I stopped watching TWD a few seasons ago when it became more torture porn than anything else. Wish I'd seen Lady Gaga's halftime show because I've always liked her music.
