What is your favorite genre to write?

To read?

Are those different, and if so, any insight into why?

I like to write poetry, creative nonfiction and humor. I like to read anything well-written or creative!

Second!

I write fantasy. I read fantasy, historical fiction, and weighty Victorian tomes. There's a lot of overlap in the first two genres, but weighty tomes are a bit beyond my ambition.

I finally found a way to avoid The Donald on Firefox: Make Donald Duck Again. (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/make-donald-duck-again/) Added, installed, and approved.

I write mostly fictionalized nonfiction. I used to write poetry, but I have to be miserable to write the really good stuff. And I'm not miserable now.

I love reading fantasy, historical fiction, and Appalachian literature.

What is "fictionalized non-fiction"?

What are some of your fave Appalachian literature titles?

Remember the guy who wrote about being an addict and Oprah featured his book, then it was revealed much of what he wrote didn't happen, and Oprah felt betrayed? The title was some like...A Thousand Pieces of...something...If he had only called it fictionalized non-fiction he might not have been on Oprah, but he wouldn't have been so horribly, publicly vilified.

Interesting! I'm not familiar with that particular book but it sounds like it is a novel based on some experiences the writer had in his own life?

It was years and years ago, back when Oprah had real power, but it was more like an autobiography with things added to make it more dramatic, sensational.

A Million Little Pieces (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Million_Little_Pieces#Controversy), aka "the book with the cover that made me hate sprinkles."

It's when you write nonfiction but you fictionalize certain events and/or characters in order to make a cohesive story.

As my college advisor once said, "Most people's lives are boring. You have to inject some kind of fiction into it in order to engage the reader." It can be done with editing (Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House" books are a prime example of this), or by transposing situations in order to make the narrative flow, maybe altering an actual event via place and/or time, things like that. Another big thing are characterizations. Maybe a character is a composite of several people, or s/he could be heavily based on somebody IRL but not exactly that particular person because you fictionalize him/her enough so as not to be recognized. I wrote an entry a topic or two ago which was heavily based on a manager I'd had years ago. That manager and the situation I wrote about actually happened but I fictionalized parts of it to make it a story rather than a straight "Well, this happened, the end".

U iz not dum BTW.

Hee! Thank you, m'dear.

I've never heard of this as a genre. I suppose it's akin to "based on a true story"?

Trump - no comment.

Lady Gaga - I was impressed and loved her belly.

Iron Fist - I have no idea what this is.

TWD - I'm sorry. I had to run screaming. THAT is torture porn. Textbook variety. Terrible stuff. The writers despise their female fans.

Okay, that's out of the way. You looking for a Top 25 today?

I love to write:

hillbilly vernacular
contemporary myth
fairy/folk tale
Death & the Maiden
flash fiction

I love to read:

the British Novel
the post-moderns
dirty realism
Southern Goth

I love to read. I will, and have, read just about anything.

So, the writing is sort of the same. I write what I'm given to write. I have no idea where it comes from, or what inspires it. I guess a lot of the time I like to write open-ended stuff, but that's not a genre. (Shrugs) I have no idea what I write. Words. I always try to write words.

I've got three minutes to get my butt in the shower. Argh!

Yay!!! Walking Dead!!! If the writing is engaging enough I like FIC and non -FIC equally. Same goes for poetry.

What do I enjoy reading? Biography, memoir, history, fantasy, science fiction, true crime

What do I enjoy writing? Well, I write a lot from own life. Essays.

I could not get into The Walking Dead at all. Most of it was the ick factor, but part of it was things like "How are the zombies not being scavenged? Shouldn't maggots have eaten their soft parts? Wouldn't the humidity of Georgia make them rot?

I lean toward fantasy, sci fi, mysteries, crime to read. I write whatever hits me to write (usually fiction but with experience). With Idol, I've found myself trying to fit the genre to the topic which is good practice for me.

Lady Gaga looked and was awesome!!! The Falcons not so much. Most of the commercials not so much :(.

I primarily like to write poetry, fiction (which mostly winds up being in the YA variety or PG/PG-13 stuff), and SciFi.

I like to read SciFi, Fantasy, chick lit, poetry, nonfiction if it's not politics/government - I adore true stories or "based on" true stories about animals, like Dewey the library cat.

I thought Lady GaGa rocked the halftime show, and was very impressed with her quick costume changes and overall athleticism. I didn't notice anything about her belly, she's gorgeous!

It should come as no surprise that my favorite genre to write is free verse poetry. :-)

I read mostly fiction, but will read anything good. Sometimes mediocre, too.

I like to read Fantasy/sci fi/distopian fiction. I also like mysteries and historical fiction. I will read almost anything especially if there a good story.

I like to write poetry, non-fiction and fictionalized non-fiction. I haven't managed fantasy that I have been happy with

I'm very much a nonfiction type -- memoirs, biographies, cookbooks, history, those great treasure trove of "anything and everything" books which make you think you could win at Jeopardy, travelogues, essays, true crime...I could go on.

I like fiction which is based in real time, I guess you could say? I don't particularly care for dystopia nor fantasy. I do like a good mystery every so often, though. I also have a soft spot for the classics. It's the English teacher still in me ;)

I stopped watching TWD a few seasons ago when it became more torture porn than anything else. Wish I'd seen Lady Gaga's halftime show because I've always liked her music.

You know, the people bitching about Lady Gaga's body are the same ones who I guarantee wouldn't be able to run 100 feet and talk without breathlessness, let alone do all her dance moves and still be able to sing with as little heavy breathing as she was doing.

Or, they're guys who know she wouldn't let them within 10 feet of that body for anything, and are mad about it. LOL.
