No Mentor this week.

But the new topic is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/977744.html

So this is definitely the space to talk about that, and perhaps hash some stuff out.

***

As I was about to post this, I encountered an article that made me think of a quite a few writers I've known over the years, and their struggles: https://writingcooperative.com/writing-through-depression-6042ed15e946#.huqqld43f

I was also saw something about "tips for writers". But the only one that I really thought was worth sharing (that wasn't completely cliched) was to KEEP PUSHING YOURSELF. Not just against the forces that make you want to not keep moving forward (see above) but also to be better, to take that limit of what you *think* you can do, and keep pushing at that wall until it breaks.

How are you going to push yourself this week?

I don't have any ideas yet, except for a press conference scenario. That would be rather cliche' though.

Trying to explain the topic to yamyam_kat is a little more difficult.

A press conference scenario is not a bad idea actually.

I follow Neil Gaiman on Tumblr, and he always gets questions about writing. His advice is to just write. Don't worry about anything other than the writing. Once you are done, then you can worry about cleaning it up and where it goes in the story.

"Just write" is like "just sit" in that it sounds simple until you try it. I struggle with both. Since I can't engrave those sayings in letters of gold like they do in The Arabian Nights I may have a new cross-stitch sampler project.

-Searching for references lead me to a twitter handle :@nocomment (https://twitter.com/nocomment?lang=en) It's basically videos with no commentary.

-"Let the picture do the talking" is one tagline I came across. And it could be associated with Gary's dream of everyone of us posting pictures as entries.
(This is totally me deducing it, Gary needs to confirm/deny if it's true/untrue..or he may just choose not to comment :P)

- Something you rather not talk about (personal/political/traditions.)

*raises hand* ... me too.

Been really really struggling with Dad's death and my SAD combined. Then there is always other issues (work, relationship, kids, etc.) that keep my brain in constant disarray.

Don't use a bye unless you have to. I volunteer to beta for you if you want/need. Try to get some ideas out--and then just write on one.

*hugs*

That next Friday thing is just really good because I need some time with this.

I almost feel EVERYONE should bye out, as that is a true no comment. But n... no, not that.

Late comers club here.

It also could be LJ-related, or just blogging, on the occasions when you switch comments off or merely don't appreciate them.

I have two degrees of this: a mild one where I screen all comments, and then sometimes when I need to get something off my chest when I switch them off.

Going in this direction we have the miscommunication issues: not wanting to talk about 'it', pressuring someone into talking ('for their own good'), not talking 'out of turn', misreading what 'good' and 'turn' are, and so on and so forth.

My first reaction to the topic was that after nearly 12 years of working in child care, I have so many stories that have left me thinking, "Uhhh, yeah I got nothin'."

I might write about a few of those. Nothing else is inspiring me at the moment.

I was thinking of going meta and using how I always have to have a comment or the last word for everything. I don't ever NOT have a comment about something. I'm rarely nonplussed- I have to consciously choose to keep my mouth shut.

I decided to write a song about "No Comment". Yay, I have now written the song. What are some of the ways people have succesfully shared their songs with the community? I know there are several songwriters playing, because I have enjoyed their songs!

thanks for any suggestions . :)

Urgh. I just came to say I'm totally blocked up and just... yeah. Then one of these comments made me think I should just go for an original drawing of some sort. Then I realized 1) that's not writing, and 2) I'd have like 24 hours to bust that out, and I'm not sure I can.

Double urgh.
