When the spousebeast and I filled out the form (almost exactly seven years ago. We got married February 16), there was actually a question "Are you no nearer kin than first cousins?"

That's when it hit me that I was getting married in the south. To this day, I wonder what finally pushed the state of NC to put that on a federal form.

It's funny that you mention that, because when my ex and I were getting ours, the same question was present -- on a DE marriage license.

It still happens often in some countries. Sri Lanka is one of them.

My parents actually suggested arranging a marriage between me and one of my first cousins. I was all: nope, nope, nope. They didn't really understand why I had a problem with it. It was a weird conversation.

I do get that it happens elsewhere and in parts of the 'States. And yeah, I knew it wasn't uncommon with arranged marriages, either -- it just.. feels weird to me, I guess. But that also depends on where you're from. :)

I actually had a friend in college who married her first cousin. They had their civil ceremony in TX because it's legal there, and then had a church wedding and reception here.

I would probably have asked her a thousand questions but hey, if it works for her, the more power to her, I guess? I knew there were still states where marrying your first cousin was legal, though. Not necessarily surprised Texas is one of them, either. :)

They didn't grow up together. Met at a family reunion or holiday of some kind (it was a long time ago) and took it from there.

She was a character, for sure.

My favorite story about her was her mom's birthday was late December, and one day she marched into the family room with a calendar and told everyone she was tired of sharing her birthday with the holidays and the baby Jesus, so she opened it and put her finger on a date and announced her new birthday to the group. :)

That's impressive. xD Most of my cousins (all four of them) are around my age/a little younger and I'm only in regular contact with one of them. The youngest is kiddo's age...

I could see something like this happening with my ex's family, tbh. Her dad was 1 of 15 so there were a looooot of cousins. She was 1 of 4 kids, herself. But I only met her extended her family a handful of times. :)

That's amazing. xD I think I'd get tired of that, too. :)

I really thought I was going to have my entry written on Sunday, but it didn't happen. So I had to take my first bye.

I work 8am-9pm on Mondays, but I HAVE A JOB INTERVIEW at 2:00 today, so I'm taking a 2ish-hour break from work to go to the interview. This, of course, means I'm working until about 11:00 tonight.

*sigh*

But right now, I'm trying to mentally prepare for this interview. The job description was basically General Office Duties and Interact with the Public on a Daily Basis.

Whatever that means...

I apologize for not being around lately. Who knew that getting one's kitchen floor repaired would result in managed chaos? The contractor initially said things should be finished this week, and I'm like, seriously? Ohkaaaay...

YAY MARRIAGE LICENSE! I don't remember seeing a question about cousins on ours. _{Then again I don't live in the South but maybe it's a standard question in all 50 states? I honestly don't remember but maybe it was on ours...?}

I think there was a conversation in a green room a few weeks ago where someone was confused about what the List of Shame meant. If someone viewed that thread at the right/wrong point and didn't follow it past that, it could be confusing.

I started a new job. Kind of. It's an externship that will lead to me finishing my certification so then I can get a new job. But it's still 40 hours a week. I ran lots of blood tests today. And there was pee. So much pee and so much blood. My life, folks. This is my life now.
