Green Room - Week 6 - Weekend Edition

Cynthia and I were in the line for "It's a Small World" tonight.

Yes, we were. Don't overthink it. Just go with it.

Maybe it's our way of protesting, by embracing a world where everyone comes together by singing in English and all dressing in white and for some reason inviting previously unseen clowns to show up in balloons.

Anyway - we were at the head of the line when the family in front of us had a bit of a run-in with the cast member. We saw the tail end of the exchange - with the cast member telling them they needed to get in line and get in the boat (at which point the teenage boy in the group literally *lept into the boat*).

Cynthia and I turned to each other with a "Damn", but it wasn't until a few minutes later when we were laughing about what we had seen, that we realized that it wasn't *the same "DAMN" moment for us.

I had seen the exchange and thought the family was really rude and while maybe a bit more terse that they are trained to be, that the cast member was dealing with a bad situation.

Cynthia had seen the exchange and saw the cast member as being completely out of line and nasty, and while the family may not have been on their best behavior, that it still didn't warrant that level of snark from her.

Why am I bringing this up? Because people see the same thing differently.

You can be right there, at the same event, taking it all in together - and still come away with a different experience.

This is true of life in general.
This is true of folks playing Idol.
But what occurred to me in that moment when I realized I was going to talk about it today, was that it's important to remember in your own writing. That people may think they are on the same page, but it's probably rare when they actually are completely so.

It's only be drilling down do you find the important differences, which are sometimes fundamental.

I think I might be coming down with The Crud that's going around. I've been up for over an hour already because I keep breaking out in a sweat and my face is devoid of color. My ex-housemate almost landed in the hospital with it :shudder:

Get better! I am a huge fan of apple cider vinegar for kicking your immune system into high gear. Some people add a few tablespoons to tea, but I don't want to suffer that long. I just shoot it - I get a big mouthful of orange juice and top it with ACV and make an incredibly bad face as I swallow it down. I take three swigs morning and night. I think it helps...or at least makes my kids laugh as I do it.

My ex-housemate relies on this stuff called Fire Cider which is a bottled concoction of unfiltered ACV, horseradish, and a bunch of other stuff. You shake the bottle, then either drink it straight or mix it with something. She puts a capful of the stuff in tea. I tried it straight once, nearly gagged, and declared, "Well, the taste alone will make you feel better instantly!"

Gawd! I once tried something similar, with ACV, cayenne pepper and garlic. Talk about foul! I don't know that it made me feel better, but my breath was definitely worse!

I meant to add that all the photos of the women's march on my FB feed are awe-inspiring. If my husband had been here we probably would've gone to the tail end of ours after I'd left work, as we have friends who marched. A lot of my FB friends marched either in DC or in their area cities, too.

There was a march in Tourist Trap yesterday but I didn't know about it until two hours after it happened. I can't believe there were worldwide protests. It's awe inspiring, yes, but also concerning. We're moving into uncharted waters here.

I was SO bummed to when I discovered the date recently and then realized I had to work all weekend too! I would SO have been there with my daughter in Atlanta if I could have managed it.

The pics of the Boston march were my favorite, because they did such a good job of getting people to wear pink. The aerial shots are actually pink. :)

What a great topic for a post, G! But in these modern times...your post is just the introduction and body...where is the conclusion? Did you two have a fist fight? Did you set the garbage can in the kitchen on fire? Did she sit on the floor and scream and demand that you see the event the way she did? Did you retire to different parts of the house and call on those who think exactly like you to come and keep you company, commiserating with one another while accusing the other of truly abysmal things? Did you call a press conference and whine?

....

If you were able to calmly discuss your opposing interpretation and subsequent viewpoints, perhaps convincing each other to take a second look, and then continue to have a great evening then you are the heroes of the day! And I do not mean that facetiously!

I didn't think I was going to have an entry this week, I wasn't feeling the topic and I've been working all this weekend. Then, it just sort of poured out of me earlier today. I was relieved not to have to use my last bye so early on!

They see the same thing.

They interpret it differently based on the meaning they assign to it, but the thing they see is the same.

You both saw and heard the actions and words. You don't disagree about what happened. You interpret based on your experiences or your beliefs or the mood you happen to be in or whatever, but the facts are facts.

The problem we face right now is the idea that facts are relative. They are not. Perspective is relative, desire is relative. Intent is relative. Meaning is relative.

Facts are facts.

Yeah,I didn't really mean it as a correction. More of a clarification or distinction or whatever.
