Green Room - Week 4 - Day 3
Jan. 5th, 2017 08:53 amIt's weird how quickly you can look around and realize that your filters through which you see the world have changed.
I've realized that more-and-more I've slipped into "Dad Mode" of how to interpret things. Which is pretty weird place for me to be in. It has though, given me more of a appreciation for the old "it comes from a good place" adage of why some parenting goes completely off track (including what I lived through growing up).
Of course, some of it doesn't. Some just comes from sheer ignorance. But that's humanity more than parenting. The latter just gives someone more authority than they *should* have been given to screw over other people's lives.
But anyway, fortunately, it hasn't really "come out" at anyone yet. (for the most part) I've been managing to hold the impulse in (for the most part) and only let little bits of "I just don't want you to have regrets later in life" and "You should stop and think about what that means when you say/do that" out into the world.
One of the places that has gotten more "Dad-Gary" than anywhere else though is Idol, where over the past couple of years I *have* heard that I've been using the "I'm not mad, just disappointed" voice. ;)
So I figured this was a good time to make that list I was talking about - of tagging every current contestant, who hasn't already turned something in - to remind them the deadline for their entries is TOMORROW ! http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/965056.html
Hopefully we can avoid a post-break mass bye-out. (Hint: It's coming. But fortunately *I think* we only have a couple more weeks of that constant threat. At least at this level) Think of this as our List of Shame! :)

Date: 2017-01-05 03:02 pm (UTC)Wrong-o says the list of shame. Maybe I'll make the time it takes to shovel out my driveway ponder-time.
I shoveled about 3" last night, the current total snowfall stands at 8" (so five more to shovel) and it's still coming down. I almost wish I did commute, because today would be a snow day.

Date: 2017-01-05 07:50 pm (UTC)Kids went back to school yesterday, and there's the possibility of snow this weekend here in GA. They are saying it could be four inches! (For all you Northerners, I know this is laughable, but, if you are in the South, snow is MAGIC stuff. Highly unpredictable and it seems to take miraculous conditions for it to form and STICK!) Four inches will be enough to stop the world for about three days.
Everyone gets all in a panic to go to the grocery store for "bread and milk" down here, but my shopping list is more like "Do I have enough Crown and cookies?" Also, Little Smokies sausages and extra eggs because I can cook them in my cast iron pan over the fireplace if the power goes out! I should get s'more materials as well. If I'm snowed in, I might as well eat fun things!

Date: 2017-01-06 06:11 am (UTC)I wrote my entry last night. I always write my entries on paper first. I don't know why, but writing my entries on paper helps me organize my thoughts better. Either way, the entry is done and posted. I had notes written down about what I was going to write about, and I ended up ignoring those notes completely and writing about something completely different.

Date: 2017-01-06 03:09 pm (UTC)The "List of Shame" is definitely intended as tongue-in-cheek. I had done away with it for a really long time, out of fear that people would take it the wrong way - and had people ask me to bring it back because it motivated them. If people decide they *don't* want it though, it doesn't need to return.

Date: 2017-01-07 12:16 am (UTC)It's meant as a reminder to folks who haven't posted their entry yet. Gary used to do it all the time on the day the entries were due. Not sure why he did it a day early this time, but he explained in today's GR he was hoping the LJ tags would alert people and remind them a topic was coming due.
I think mostly because we had such a long "break" week, and he's worried about post-holiday bye-outs.
I'm on the list too, and I know I still have a bye left. I don't know whether you do, because I've been crap at keeping up with my spreadsheet so far this season. Gary can tell you.
FWIW, some folks used to have a kind of pride in being on the LoS. I don't care about it one way or another. I'm a deadline person, so I'm pretty much always going to be on it, but it wasn't explained for new folks this time, so confusion.
Hang in there.
