The new topic will be up tonight, and we will be back in business! Hopefully everyone is still paying attention, I just knew you wouldn't be over the holidays and decided to be nice. Hopefully Idol doesn't end up paying for that with too many people just wandering back off into the wilderness.

First I have to say my favorite thing was successfully hosting the annual open house. Most of the family and a handful of friends showed up and a good time was had by all.

Second I have to say my favorite thing is the utter terror I now feel that the jobs I applied for in Washington DC will call me in for an interview.

Hello! My favorite thing was getting to go to Texas (San Antonio and Houston) over the holidays with extended family. We had a good time visiting and are currently on the last leg of our drive back home. Phew!

Oh, I'm glad I checked the green room today. For some reason I had it in my mind the break topic deadline was the 4th. My husband will be back at work tomorrow, though, so I should be able to get back into Idol stuff then. Write an entry tomorrow as well, if I'm lucky.

Best movie I saw over the break was Hidden Figures. Highly recommended, everyone should go see it.

Best purchase over the last two weeks, flights and accommodation so I can go to Seattle for their improv festival next month, and see some friends who are performing there. Anyone doing Idol living in the Seattle area? I've never been to Seattle before.

I have 5 improv performances scheduled so far this month, with potentially one more to be scheduled. This is my busiest performance month yet. I'm intentionally not signing up for any classes on top of this because I need to have time for non-improv related activities, like Idol. Phew!

Kent-y Claus brought me a laptop! My very own, special, shiny laptop. Which will never, ever, ever have video games or porn on it (I prefer to get my porn the old fashioned way: reviewing anthologies for a friend).

I think LJI is partially (mostly?) responsible for this. So, thank you, Gary! I am one happy hippie.

My brother flew in from Toronto and my sister flew in from Los Angeles. The three of us and our mother went to dinner at Moshulu (http://www.moshulu.com/). I tried pork belly, octopus, duck breast, and swordfish for the first time.

That dinner, having it with family, was by far the best part of the break period for me. Though I have to say, the octopus wasn't for me.

I'm super adventurous when it comes to food but I live in a small town and don't have a lot of money, so I rarely get to try them.

My favorite was the pork belly, but they were all delicious. The octopus was good, but I didn't like the texture. I love the taste of clams, mussels, oysters, etc., but that gummy, chewy texture just doesn't sit well with me for some reason.

But yeah, I'm definitely going there again. The food was SO GOOD. Plus, it's on a boat, which is also awesome.

In a BOAT? what a cool idea for a restaurant space! Octopus can be finicky, I Ike it best grilled or braised so the rubbery aspects don't come through as much. Glad you had an amazing time!

According to their website, Moshulu is "the world’s oldest and largest square rigged sailing vessel still afloat. She is in fact the one and only restaurant venue on a Tall Ship today in the World."

She was built in 1904 and has sailed around the world. The boat was turned into a restaurant in 1975.

The food is pricey, but the experience (and the taste of the food, of course) totally makes it worth it.

Not to brag but I got tickets from my SO for Christmas to see Hamilton on Broadway on my 30th birthday in September. I am so stinking excited and overwhelmed already!
