Green Room - Break Week - Day 1

Now that Survivor is over, I'm catching up on listening to my other podcasts. (as opposed to barely keeping up on just the Survivor ones).

I've been listening to the Nerdist Writers Panel's conversation with John Green. http://nerdistwriters.nerdistind.libsynpro.com/john-green Up until now, I've heard of the guy, but never actually read any of his books.

He's a lot more interesting than I thought he would be, and his frank talk about his "process" and how many times he's gone down the wrong track with his writing - and what some of those tracks looked like, have been really cool to hear. The idea that this guy, who is extremely successful at what he does, *still* struggles and has to be pulled off ideas that are going nowhere, it's the kind of thing that should give others hope that if he can do it, they can too!

I have to say, one of the best things about not working in theater anymore is no "A Christmas Carol". No chance of working on a production, no having to see productions friends are in, nothing.

Don't get me wrong it's a lovely story and frequently a lovely play. But in December it's everywhere. I'm sure someday I'll have enough distance from the overload of years to enjoy it again, but I shuddered reading your comment. So this is not that year.

That said, I hope the production you are going to see is magical and wonderful. They so often are.

It will be plus it's just fun to get to go out with people and socialize. I would imaging, like a lot of things, you would burn out on it and it would feel more like work that fun if you did it for a living.

Today is the day before the second and final holiday push of the year at work. I have a split shift tomorrow -- work my usual schedule in the AM, then I return tomorrow night to do the overnight. Normally I would've worked today and had tomorrow off but there was a scheduling snafu and the person who usually subs for me has to sub for another coworker. So, yay :p

John Green is awesome, I've been a watcher of the vlogbrothers youtube channel for years now and their podcast which is also awesome. I've only read the fault in our stars though, it's a good book.

ETA: I keep writing stuff and deleting it. I will come back tomorrow to say stuff.

At our office, we put together about 45 papers together each week. With the holidays, deadlines have shifted so our normally busy days are a little less busy and our normally slow days have a lot more work to do.

Also, I have to work Christmas day, which I'm not happy about. Bah.
