I've given you some time off during what is, traditionally, the most busy time of year.

But in true Idol fashion, I've also put out a bit of a trap. :) http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/961914.html

Because you *can* take the time off. Or you can complete four entries during that time, knowing that you will get something that could be useful in the coming weeks!

Is the time worth the reward? Is the risk, because who knows what might be waiting at the end of the non-mandatory week?

And what's going on with those topics anyway?

This "week" should be a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Just to be clear about this... we would write a separate entry for the four topics you have listed in order to complete this assignment? In other words, no combining any of them into one or two entries?

What *is* up with these topics, Gary?

Though I have to say, my brain is already doing things with "grief bacon."

Sorrow fat has already provided an idea duly recorded. And now onto the next...Jantelagan I think. Wow, if I could get the first two done before the end of the week...(big grin)... Now to keep my sang-froid during all this. (Wink)

Is it at all possible one of those words is not spelled in a fashion one might expect it to be? I only ask because my magic google eight-ball wants to redirect me to a definition for a very slightly differently spelled word...

Is the first topic spelled correctly? I'm naturally having to google this stuff, and it keeps auto-correcting to -en instead of -an. Not sure if I should be looking for a different word....

So if this is non-mandatory, do we lose a bye if we don't write?

From my understanding, Jantelegen is the exact opposite of American society. Jantelegen and that possum one are going to be the hardest for me.

From: [identity profile] tonithegreat.livejournal.com
It's the risk that scares me about this potential situation. Is there still a chance of elimination if we try to write these, even though they're non-mandatory? I'm guessing we don't get to know the answer to that before pulling the trigger. Seems likely that the competition will be stiff.

So I have a simple question:
Do we post each entry in the section as a separate entry or one post linking all four?

You need to be more clear here Gary. I got this thing!

From: [identity profile] xo-kizzy-xo.livejournal.com
IIRC whenever there's been anything like this it's been link all four in one entry. It just makes it easier for people to read all four at once rather than jump around.

We had a possum hiding in our front bushes for a time until The Boyz became curious...

No, it wasn't harmed. It was smart enough to waddle to the neighbor-without-dogs' bushes across the road, LOL.

So, what if I do want to write but run out of time/ideas and only get two done? That's equivalent to home-gaming at that point right? No harm, no gain - no chance at the fabulous prizes or the possible stick?

I'm only in my own house five days of this extended week so I'm not entirely certain how my time is going to be decided for me.

Can someone help me out and explain in a very, very simple sentence what Jantelagen means?

Because I have googled it, but I just... don't get it at all.

From: [identity profile] kathrynrose.livejournal.com
This is the best I've seen:

Generally used colloquially in Sweden and the rest of the Nordic countries as a sociological term to describe a condescending attitude towards individuality and success, the term refers to a mentality that de-emphasises individual effort and places all emphasis on the collective, while discouraging those who stand out as achievers.

From Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_Jante)

It's a very not-American concept, obv.

Technical question: in the Topic post do we post one comment linking to all four of our entries or four separate comments?
