Yesterday, there was a conversation that might have gotten lost given how busy the Green Room ended up getting. ;)

It was about the efforts of 2017 Revival/Livejournal Lives to "Make LJ Great Again".

I've noticed though, how quickly that tends to dissolve into a bunch of white people (mostly women, from the comments I've seen. That's probably just because LJ has always been "mostly women") sitting around talking about how awesome it was back when they used to be gather together to be nasty to other people.

Which I think is something not part of the discussion yesterday: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/961239.html?thread=82713303#t82713303 that there was a shift away from cyberbullying and the anon-communities ended up going deeper underground. (I've seen some folks express regret, or at least acknowledge that things got out of hand)

LJ definitely did a lot of the damage themselves through some "bad PR moves" to try to clean up the place, to make it safer for advertisers - instead driving away some of the folks they were trying to keep!

I DO hope that their efforts to bring more people back to the fold are successful. After all, a more active Livejournal has been something Idol has been doing it's best to achieve for years!

There are, of course, going to be naysayers. But I think it's a worthwhile tilt at the windmills.

I would love for LJ to be more active and I myself need to actually make posts now and again. ;) I do read my flist I just was never good at commenting and much better at lurking, so. It's hard to give myself that push to comment more. :)

Overnight shift time is nigh! I also need to get one more present and do my Christmas Day food shopping. I also need to amuse The Boyz who would love nothing better than to stay outside in this kind of weather. No way they're doing that without me and no way am I doing it without suiting up like Kenny on South Park, LOL.

I totally agree w this! Yes! Idol Folk, past and present, are most of my flist. I comment and post less in the off-season because I don't want to over-write and then not be able to use it for Idol material when I really need something.

I've said it before. I'll say it again. Many of these Idol prompts have a synchronicity / "special timing" in them for me. Not sure how that works, but it happens.

I wonder if the results of the US election is helping to drive people back to a space where they can form communities and interact with each other in a more anonymous/less emoji centered manner.

And if so, I guess this was what Putin was hoping for... I imagine he was barechested and wrestling a bear when someone told him that SixApart was in need of some financial help.

By the time he had the bear pinned, Putin had put into place an elaborate scheme to undermine the US democratic progress and drive people back to Livejournal so that they could vent for the next 4-8 years.

Hm, I wouldn't discount that but I haven't seen anything here on LJ yet. Most of the venting is going on over at FB, it seems.

Then again I've never traveled in political circles on LJ :shrug:

One of the things I saw a few people say on their FB posts for that group is that they got into LJ to complain about George Bush. So, hopefully those types of people will come back to complain about Donald Trump...

I'm part of a really large (>500 people) post-election group on Facebook. It's a secret group, so there's a lot of sharing without fear of repercussions from employers or family, etc. In some ways it reminds me of lj.

So your younger husky dog wakes you up at 4AM because the alarm didn't go off and he's afraid you'll be late for work.

Your older husky dog recognized that you stayed up later than usual last night, which he interprets as "Mom must be off from work tomorrow". He then curls up and falls asleep, even though said alarm.

Younger husky dog needs to go potty RIGHT NOW (because, you see, you didn't wake up at the appropriate time which obviously syncs with his bladder) so you wake up older husky dog and all three of you stumble downstairs. Open back door and nearly die from the freezing cold.

Can't go back to sleep because of the freezing cold so you make a pot of coffee and drink the entire pot...which in turn makes you a caffeinated posting fiend :D

I stopped posting in my LJ years ago and am now only posting because I joined Idol. I browsed through my f'list and I don't think anyone from "back then" is still posting. I'd love for it to pick back up again, but even I'm not sure if I'd be posting much outside of Idol.

And now I'm off to read the entries. I've read maybe half. Yikes. Lots more to go!

I'm the same as Jenn. I used to post regularly on LJ because I liked that my friends and I would comment actual thoughts to each other and have a dialogue. (FB seems much more like a one-sentence/click like kind of world.) I think I did start to drift from LJ because I was living out of state and the only place most of my family or friends would go/post was FB so if I didn't go there, I couldn't talk to people. After a while, I think most everyone did and I didn't have anyone left here to talk to. As I'm crap at making friends online, I didn't know how to make new LJ friends either. So I've only just come back for Idol and have a new account and everything.

I'm pretty sure I deleted my old ones. I think I did. Hopefully. I mean, I was in my twenties. EHEM.

Here's my comment: Hi, I am recuperating from, and celebrating, the completion of the reading/commenting portion of LJIDOL's Vote -Week 3. Now I still have to make a list, and I'll be checking it twice, to send to Gary...but my brain is boggled because I stayed up all night to read all the fantastic entries and did I mention my brain is boggled? Very happy, but boggled. I think I need a nap. But I can't because in an hour and a bit the noon news will be coming on and the humane society will be showcasing their pet of the week because it's Tuesday...I think I will just go and email Gary now.

Sigh...It shouldn't take more than an hour, right?

Second I would like to say that LJ notifications are still broken and I completely missed yesterday's GR because I was distracted and forgot.

We're 23rd overall. Which, the highest we've been this season is 22nd. (Between seasons we were 630something at one point!)

It's a fluke I even noticed it. I was switching from my goals ID, and ended up at the home page, where I never go, and was trying to figure out a quick way to the idol page. On a whim I scrolled down to the top communities, and there it was. :)
