Results - Week 17

It doesn't get any easier - week after week, saying goodbye. But this is one of those weeks where it sucks just a little bit more.

Because, I'm not going to lie - and even if I did, anyone with a knowledge of the history of Idol knows that I'm a fan of the work of alexpgp"- and unfortunately, this week, he is leaving us. Given that he wrote a serial for 17 weeks, in a mini-season where the refrain seemed to be "don't write serials" is just one more thing to put in the "why I like this guy" column.

It wasn't one vote this time, it was by two. He is leaving with someone who is quickly becoming a favorite as well: murielle. She went quite a ways into the game the first time, and then fought her way back in through Second Chance and stayed for another month! (that's pretty damn impressive - it not only shows how talented she is, but a love for the game itself)

I'm really hoping that we get to read more from both of them in the Home Game!

It seems fate that, since Season 5 when I began, you outlast me by only a week or two. You remain one of the classiest LJ Idol contestants. Congratulations on stepping outside of your comfort zone this season and taking on a serial. It was fun to see how you would spin it each week.

As much as I hate that alexpgp is leaving the competition this week, because I have looked forward to every chapter in the ongoing tale of Feather and Usha, I feel honoured to be going out with such a fantastic writer.

I cannot begin to tell you how much this journey has meant to me. When I started out with you all I honestly didn't think I would last more than a week or two--the reality is absolutely astounding. I have enjoyed every single second, and it is largely due to the wonderful generous writers/players/people in lj_idol. You are seriously awesome! And I am going to be reading your work as long as you're sharing it. I also hope to be homegaming, so I will still be around.

Gary you are the king of awesomeness! Thank you for your endless patience in answering all of my questions, and never once calling me an asshat. :-) You totally rock!

Some of your pieces have been among my favorites this season. I'm thinking, for example, about the one with the kindly tailor who takes in an orphan. Goosebumps. You are one of the best examples of someone who writes fiction and yet manages to imbue her writing with a sense of herself.

I have also greatly enjoyed the comments you've left for me each week. You should not be one of the people leaving this week, that is for sure!

Thank you so much! What a beautiful thing to write. I will treasure your comment. This season of lj_idol has been a highlight of my life, such a precious experience. All the more so because of the kind comments by you and others that encouraged me every step of the way.

I really am at peace with the vote result this week. The writers who have moved forward within the competition are brilliant--as are you!--and now instead of driving myself so hard just to produce something acceptable, I can sit back and enjoy the wonderful writing by the survivors. Oh, and there's Home Game to keep me flexing all these new muscles idol has created in me.

I've marveled at how succinctly alexpgp has been able to keep his serial within the parameters of the variety of prompts!
