Two people have "byed out" this week.

Sorry to (at least) one of you that you does not like the over the topic "cheese factor" or the topics. *Shrug* It's not for everyone I guess. Thank you for taking the time to play though.

Some people play to gain some sort of insight. Some play just to be motivated to do something that they might not ordinarily want to do.

I hope people get something out of it. But if they don't, they don't.

I do hope that both of you stick around. I have a feeling one might and the other won't, but I'm happy to have either.

Again, thank you for playing.

hey, I joined to be 'stretched' and so far it has worked. I have disliked some of the topics, but that's part of the stretching so I welcome it! keep it up! ;-)

oh dear. Should I have said 'matured'? (had to discard 'grown' and 'developed' for similar reasons)

:-p

I've definitely gained a lot from being part of LjIdol:

Being able to get back into writing, and exploring new styles, ideas etc;
Making new friends, and being part of the LJIdol community;
Being part of the contest has given me a sense of purpose after moving interstate. While I'm looking for a job and a place to live, it has been the one constant in my life from week to week that has helped keep me going when things have been a bit rough.

So thanks Gary and [livejournal.com profile] kithan for keeping the contest going!

I think it must be kinda tough to find a single topic that a large group can write about and find interest in. Multiply that by finding such a topic once a week and I bet it's even trickier.

Kudos to ya, Gary.

Can I just say that I sorely wish that a few folks (rare ones on LJ Idol, I am thankful) should really examine their tone with dealing with other folks? I am a huge advocate of speaking one's mind... even when the opinion is unpopular... but there is a fine line between constructive criticism and mean spirited cynicism... People would do well to tread a little lighter... In my mind, stating "this is lame" is far less acceptable than stating "I am not finding the topics interesting or challenging"... it is always unnecessary to make pointed cutting remarks, even when it is necessary to make an unpopular statement. It would be much more effective to make constructive remarks when keeping in mind that the words you see on the screen represent a real, living, breathing individual and not a construct simply existing in a narcissistic bubble created for one's own amusement.

*sigh* Perhaps I should reign it in now... Forgive my unsolicited proselytizing...

I will add, though, that many and most of the folks I have met on LJ Idol have enriched the experience, either through thought provoking writing or their own personalities...

Agreed; voicing one's opinions is a great idea and I applaud it, but there's a common decency that people seem to lack sometimes.

AMEN! I agree so very much. I'm a fierce advocate of honesty-at-all-costs, but honesty can wear soft words as easily as sharp ones.

I just don't see why we need to be going there with this competition. Getting along within a comment-based forum should be an easy thing.

I assume you're referring to me.

Well, I am sorry for hurting anyone's feelings. However, I don't think it's fair to be told that my opinion is nil because one or more individuals might not appreciate bluntness. I am one of those unfortunate people who quite appreciates honesty in others, and would much rather get a frank statement than write something meaningless.

To put it bluntly, I am not six years old, and I DO realize that there are people behind the screen. (OMG HOW DID YOU ALL GET THERE?!?!?!? OMG GET OUT!) Buuuut, O Complete Stranger, I said nothing cruel about anyone. I said the mod posts were really cheesy, and that I didn't care for the cookie-cutter structure of many entries. It was hardly a knock against any specific person. The mod is free to be offended, but he's managed not to sink into "proselytizing"- and I must say, hypocrisy. I'm a person, too, and your attributing actions and qualities to me that are unfounded is just as "mean" as my saying "I'm bored and not having fun."

You know what? My feeling that I am not a good fit for LJ Idol, and my stated dislike of the topics and the writing style of many competitors, is a good thing. It means that those who wish to play the game "straight" and feel that it offers something in the realm of personal growth have a freer and more accepting place to do so.

I've met some cool people through this game, and I plan on voting for those I think deserve votes. If my dissenting opinion and straightforwardness make me such an awful person, well, you're better off not having to read my posts.

*sigh* Be well. I actually enjoyed your posts. Thanks for playing and for speaking your mind. I have no need to say any further what I've already stated and it is moot, to say the least.

Happy Holidays!

I would have to say that being in LJ Idol have really helped me interact more and not be as guarded with people (I think my most recent entry's my best one!)

*waves*

I've really enjoyed meeting great folks in here...

Sorry to see two more leaving.

I enjoyed getting to know liz especially. I hope you stick around!

I'm bummed to hear about the other factor. I joined this just for the writing experience and have gotten more than I ever thought I would. Mostly I am grateful for the opportunity to meet so many awesome people! :) LJ Idol may be cheesy to some, but to me it is nothing but fun and encouraging! I know I am working my writing a lot more with this and that's great, too!

I am so nervous about sharing my writing with people. I stress out a lot about it. I write all the time, but I never ever share any of it. THis has gotten me out of that shell. Thank you SO much for it. I only hope that I keep going in the contest so I can keep working on myself. Becoming more comfortable with sharing my writing. Becoming a far better writer.

((HUGS)) to everyone!

I will be, you can count on it. I just had some personal issues spring up and smack me in the face, but I'm getting those ironed out.

It's been a pleasure getting to know you as well!

Heh, I read it for fun last season but didn't participate except for voting. It's nice to log on quickly during the day. Gives me a little break from all of the numbers.

High School drama teacher to several cast members complaining that their parts were "too small" or "too stupid:"

"There's a famous quote about how there are no small parts, only small actors. It doesn't matter if your part wasn't written well or that you don't like it. What matters is that you can pull it off so that people think you're the character, speaking as the character does."

Of course, that didn't keep the male lead from refusing to do the kissing scene with me because his girlfriend pitched a fit about it, but most of the other disgruntled folks took it to heart and we had a great production.

Gary, don't let the turkeys get you down. I think this competition has been fabulous.

The topics aren't always my cup of tea but that's the point - writing about something you might not have really considered before, or writing about something mundane in an interesting way!

I enjoy a challenge and I enjoy seeing how everyone else responds to the topics as well.

Some people really take advantage of the anonymity of the Internet to let their ugly side shine - or maybe the ugly side just glowers.
