Wow. What a day yesterday huh?

In that spirit, I think I'm going to come up and say that I am proud of all of you. Even when things got heated anyone who's spent ANY time online knows how bad that could have gotten. It didn't. It didn't because people got upset, but they kept talking it out instead of just yelling and insulting each other (to the point of a flame war).

So kudos to you.

I know, I'm always like, "What drama? Where?" And nobody ever tells you. Not that I necessarily want to participate, I just want to know what happened in more than vagueries.

As a side note, I think something needs to be said about Spydie's character. I've been reading her since the tail end of Season 3, and I've met very few people online that are quite as generous of heart and accepting as she is. Very soon after being friends with her online I added her to my special filter on my LJ-- I'd felt very unjudged by her and have only grown to trust her more over the last few months- her good advice, her editing of my Idol posts with me, her time spent sharing with me, etc.

Anyways, I know her more than many here, and I know that she's a respectful, and sometimes verbally playful person who may have been part of some miscommunication yesterday. I can only imagine how upsetting this must have been for her, because caring for people for who they are is fundamental to the person she is.

I feel that the people here on Idol here generally trust me and perhaps also my judgment. With that in mind, I'd like to ask that those of you who may have been frustrated with her yesterday to keep your minds open. Predjudice and ignorance of any kind one of the two easiest ways to get me angry. If I thought there was any sincere attacks, ignorance or generalizations being made at all on her part yesterday, I would not ask this.

Wow- it really was a "day" here yesterday. I was so busy having my own day that I didn't stop in. When I finally got to relax, I had it in my head that I should write up a post or two. It wasn't until I saw this post that I went over to see how things went. I can see why you're impressed; seems like everyone worked really hard to understand each other and undo any misunderstandings that occurred. I wish there was more of that kind of dedication online.

I'd like to recognize tulip_in_yellow for excellent fronting for us ignorant folks yesterday.

We're all ignorant about a lot of things. And when one is ignorant, it is easy to say things that seem stupid or offensive. And I know all too well, that when confronted with our ignorance, it is easy to get defensive. But Tulip showed that ignorance is an opportunity--not only to educate oneself, but to connect to people. As an ignorant person, I'd like to thank her for making us look good.

I went back and read the stuff in yesterday's GR and... yep, y'all are some of the classiest people on the internet. I'm glad to be participating in this with you. Thank you to those who asked and those who answered. As I said to worldofcharlie in his post for this week, there was a lot that I've wanted to ask but never quite sure how to without coming across as obnoxious or possibly offensive. I was glad to be able to read others that had the same questions about multiples.

In other news, my mom is being moved to a regular room today. I went over with my dad to see her yesterday and she was looking better. I'm still worried, as her heart is NOT that strong. But if we can keep her from taking it too quickly, this will be good. I won't be able to go see her today, though. I think I'm coming down with strep. I'm waiting for an e-mail back from the doctor's office for an appointment to find out.

And finally... can someone pass the caffeine? Insomnia was my friend again last night and I managed all of 3 hours of sleep. :(

but the best way i can explain my point of view is this little tale.

my daughter and i were discussing the intolerance for "differences" she sees every day in the world of middle school. i explained to her my thoughts this way.

i pulled out one of my art books and opened the page to paintings by the pointalist master, george seurat (click here (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Georges_Seurat_031.jpg) if you're unfamiliar). and i said to her, "natalie, do you see how this picture is made up of so many many colors and how the entire painting would be completely changed without even just one of the colors? people are like this painting, nat. we're all different colors, different religions, different beliefs, different issues, and different everything. but without even just one of us, just one of our voices, the world is completely different. it takes all of us and all points of view to make the world what it is. it means that it takes people who's behavior you don't agree with and people who's behavior you completely agree with. it takes everybody. we have to learn that. we have to realize that intolerance helps no one. we're all part of the same beautiful painting."

Misunderstandings are amplified by internet postings and emails, in my opinion... you can't hear a person's tone of voice and gauge where they're coming from. I know I've unwittingly offended friends and acquaintances through flippant comments and jokes that no one else found funny. I'm glad that everyone was able to talk through this stuff and tried to "hear" each other.

Meh. Work is going to be a bitch this week, since my lame excuse of a boss is hell bent on releasing something with little to no prep before this weekend, when everyone except...gosh....ME...will be GONE, as in out of town, next week. So guess who gets to work all week, and then pick up the shit next week even though technically I'm on vacation from the 24th to the 2nd? Yup. So if I seem grumpy, well.

Sure glad I got the entry done off the bat this week though.

As for the Idol Shifts, I didn't get the sense that they were happening in the next consecutive three weeks? More that he was defining the different phases, as in we just finished the 150->100 shift, and we're going to be in the 100->50 shift after this vote? He's been pretty clear this will take another five months or so; going down to 10 folks in three weeks would basically finish this contest in six weeks...

However, didn't realize the byes went bye-bye after we were down to 50...Hm...*thinks*...

I always miss the interesting threads! Now that I've skimmed through yesterday's comments, I have to agree that I'm impressed with the maturity and everyone's desire to come to a place of peace. Yay for the LJ Idol crowd for having real holiday spirit!

Today is the holiday party at work. Oh! And we get to have casual day through the rest of the year! It's kind of sad how excited I get about wearing jeans to the office.
