Good afternoon from Iowa!

Today I am casting the "Super Vote" for both the Democratic and Republican caucuses and single-handedly deciding who will win the state's electoral votes!

They fly me out every four years to make this decision, and it's one I take really seriously.

Either that or I'm at home after a morning dental appointment. Whichever sounds more interesting to you.

Well there are advantages to being dead -- people expect less from you, so you have more free time to work on your own personal projects.

And as for being dead to *ME* (which you most certainly are), everybody pretty much knows about the whole "free access to cookies" aspect of being a fully-fledged member of the Dead To Ellakite Society...

Cookies are pretty much the best part of anything (as Cookie Monster can attest)! Well, as long as they contain chocolate. Though I've developed a recent weakness for windmill cookies, despite usually thinking, "These could use twice the cinnamon, at least!"

Lowered expectations are always a relief, too. Now I've got the "Lowered Expec-tay-ay-shuns" jingle in my head from Mad TV. :D

Gary, I know it may not be as fun for you that we aren't generating the kind of massive comment threads of seasons past, and I wanted to reassure you that you have still done a great job creating community. Team Avocado is exchanging probably 50 emails a week, and I'm loving the small group aspect of immediate and forthright feedback both to and from people who know feedback is welcome.

*nods* Yes! The community feeling is definitely different, but it's totally THERE. It's really interesting to me how the team dynamic changes things.

I agree with this. A lot of the community is happening in the comment sections of the entries.

I'm having a challenge keeping up with real life, reading and commenting on the entries, writing my entry and still coming over here to participate in discussions. Indeed, I'm taking a quick lunch break right now as I make this comment here. :D

Speaking of community happening in the comments section, you've done a great job this season fostering conversation in your comments! Even though I haven't participated much (natural lurker plus limited time, aaaaargh), I have really enjoyed reading along there, and I appreciate that you're actively inviting people in and giving them hooks for talking to each other. Thank you for that!

Well thank you - its sort of primarily because I have no filter, even when I'm commenting. I was commenting late last night and rereading some of it this morning, I wish I'd waited until I'd gotten more sleep. I might have done more fostering confusion than community. :D

Ack, I've been nursing a woo dog with a sore shoulder all afternoon. Have no idea how it happened. We started to go for a walk, and he (Max) suddenly collapsed at the end of the driveway. Unfortunately our vet had already left the office when this happened. Her assistant told us to give him buffered aspirin and keep and eye on it tonight. If he's the same tomorrow, bring him in.
