David Bowie is dead.

I'm not sure what else can, or should be, said today.

Because - Bowie.

I am required however to remind you about other artists who created things for this week: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/880185.html and http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/880602.html

The deadline to vote is tomorrow, so make sure that you do!

Bowie.

Definitely too young. So sad today.

Been listening to Blackstar since it dropped. The lyrics took on an entirely different scope in context. I suspect that was exactly the point.

Me, too. The "Lazarus" motif makes a whole different kind of sense now.

Right? Although I feel like he was thumbing his nose at us a bit with "I Can't Give Everything Away."

Have you seen the "Lazarus" video yet? My sister says it was his message to everyone, that he is free now.

I have. The videos (for Lazarus and for the title track) are a little hard to parse, but the songs themselves (whole album, really) put it pretty clear. ....ish.

Bowie what?!

*sigh*

That's how I felt ever since I found out early today.

Bowie's death hasn't really sunk in yet. All I can say is that I'm sure my friend p_m_cryan is devastated;  she's a huge fan of the man and I'm sure she hoped to meet him someday...

I'll have to get in touch with her. Yet another thing that she and I share.

I still can't wrap my brain around it.

And having to tell Kent as 5:30 in the morning was the worst.

Love your icon, of course. Who is Kent, a significant other or a child?

At first, I wasn't going to say anything to my son, but he picked up that I was sad. I told him that a singer that Mommy really liked had a bad disease, and he tried really hard to get better, but then he died. I told him that everyone around the world was playing his music to remember him. He agreed that was a good way to remember.

My husband. I usually refer to him as the spousebeast. One of the things we bonded over early in the relationship was a love bordering on obsession of all things Bowie.

Heck, we call our apartment The Glass Asylum...

1st celebrity since Nimoy that actually made me exclaim out loud to the TV, "WHAT???? No!"

Not today, Whiskers (https://www.facebook.com/georgehtakei/videos/1452245238138258/)

[livejournal.com profile] mamas_minion is pretty broken up about it, too. A friend on FB posted this morning, "I'd always just assumed Bowie was immortal."

Yes-- or if not immortal, surely the next closest thing. How could he have not made it at least to 90?

*sigh*

I know just how you feel. Certainly, I never expected him to die just two months after my mom. It's a rough, rough time.

We lost a family member of our own recently as well, though perhaps nowhere near as tragic as the loss of a parent, but still, pulling the plug in this case was the hardest thing I've ever hard to do in my life.

And then this, and then Alan Rickman (http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/14/entertainment/obit-alan-rickman/), and Glenn Frey (http://www.tmz.com/2016/01/18/glenn-frey-the-eagles-dead/)... and it's only January. Can we just be done with death for the year now? Or at least, for a while, anyway? I'm through. Really. This is enough. Seriously. No more.

Very. Then again, it is a very good thing, in a way, to have so many other people feeling the same way. He made a huge impact, and it's good to know how much he touched all these people that I know.

Gobsmacked. That's it. That's the feeling I had when I heard, too.
