In most circles it's only a "spoiler" when you are revealing something before it comes out. That's the traditionally accepted definition. Or at least the "old school" one.

Now you have people complaining about spoilers a month out from the release of something - because they haven't had the chance to check it out yet.

Honestly, I'm still shocked that the internet has been this well behaved with "The Force Awakens", but I'm starting to hear rumblings of discontent, where people have started seeing "spoilers" from their friends.

I'm thinking that by the 1 week point, the truce is going to break entirely and people are going to start talking about what happened in the open. I may be wrong, but if I am, it's only because people are busy this time of year.

So if you are someone who won't see it until after that point, and you haven't unfollowed everyone on FB (to avoid seeing their comments in other people's spaces) - and you care about not knowing what is going to happen - I would really start locking things down on your social media. Saying "don't tell me" in your own space doesn't mean that you won't see it happening in someone else's.

But I thought the whole point of the Internet was that it's exclusively my space, my safe space, and everyone's on my lawn only for as long as they're well-behaved? Everyone should be conforming to my rules and expectations - that's just how the internet works.

Right? Right. I'm glad we had this discussion.

(Mostly, I assumed the Internet would shoot first if I didn't give them ten days after the premiere before saying anything, and have acted accordingly.)

Uh, I'm having such an up and down on whether I can be bothered to go and watch Force Awakens. It feels too much like something I 'Have' to watch because I'm a sci-fi fan. And I'm busy with Christmas. But then so many people are saying it's awesome. I don't know what I want.

Funnily enough, in my head until I saw the movie, I always thought that Hermione WAS black! And not because I am black myself, just because they kept talking about *bushy* hair, and lord knows if I didn't do something about it, my hair would be extremely bushy... (although bushy is not the word I would use, I prefer THICK)

See I make real effort to never see anything until it's been out for a year or two and thoroughly spoiled for me. I'm so bad I will google a plot synopsis of a movie I'm watching while I'm watching it because I honestly just do not have time to pay full attention if it's not gonna be worth it. If it's good the first time I will likely rewatch it though. I find it really frustrating when people get so hyped about spoilers the Internet is a giant spoiler for everything that's what I love about it. I have literally added years of my life thanks to all the movies I don't even have to watch. Like Trainwreck or Inside Out or whatever that new one is about the Jedi's and shit...

I haven't had time to beat the Bloodborne DLC that came out three weeks ago because of school (and sucking at the game) and I am dying.

Fortunately everybody's pretty good at tagging it on Tumblr and that's where I do most of my social media shit.

...not that it matters because I keep peeking in the tags I have blocked.
