Work Room - Week 1
Dec. 2nd, 2015 12:44 amSome of you are just coming out of NaNoWriMo. Others have had other projects.
I'm sure there are some within the sound of my typing that haven't sat down to write something in awhile.
So, you have a new topic: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/867839.html a jumping off point. You can go in any direction you want with it. But what is the best fit *for you*?
How can you make this something that folks won't be reading in every other entry?
That's one of those primal questions for a writer - what are you bringing to the table that no one else can offer? How are you going to make this entry yours?
***
This would also be a good spot for people still looking for teams to declare themselves as being available!

Date: 2015-12-02 04:29 pm (UTC)How do you make yourself stand out as a writer? I don't necessarily think you need to be "better" because better is subjective. Original. Yes. Different is where it's at. For me anyway.

Date: 2015-12-02 05:44 pm (UTC)I don't really gamble... so I'm thinking about taking a "trust but verify" kind of take on this prompt.

Date: 2015-12-02 10:51 pm (UTC)I know this one, and I follow it both in games and in life.
In our circle of friends, cheating at cards/games/whatever is not done (like, you see someone holding their cards in a way that allows you to see some of those, you tell them and do not look). But I still insist everyone cuts the cards all every time in games where it is the thing you do.
And in real life it's like this: do not automatically suspect the worst in people, but do not tempt them either. And if someone asks "you do something or the other, don't you trust me?", the answer is "I do, but I also do this, regardless of trust".

Date: 2015-12-03 03:09 am (UTC)They hand you their bag as they go to the restroom or anywhere were it'll just be easier if someone holds it for them. Not by ME offering to do it, but them asking if I shall.
It's a badge of honor. This has nothing to do with the topic of the week. Just an interesting line of conversation of different souls concepts and handling of situations.

Date: 2015-12-03 12:53 am (UTC)"what are you bringing to the table that no one else can offer?"
I've struggled with this in the past and what I've found is that focusing on being "original" and "different" puts a bad spin on my writing. Now I just try to write what jumps into my head and not worry about it overly much. In other words... I do what I want!

Date: 2015-12-03 10:47 am (UTC)It's my first time, too. And I am flying solo as well.
I don't believe in originality. I do believe in the filters of imagination and experience. In other words, I will push myself, try to reach past my perceived limitations, but bottom line? I too will be writing what I want. :-)

Date: 2015-12-03 04:40 pm (UTC)In my case, I am always selfish and alone. I travel by myself, spend hours alone reading (or in recent years surfing the webs). And writing.
And yet... I do share my writing, and read others' work, and comment.
Recently (since 2006) I have been indulging more and more in vlogging and video/filmmaking. Even that art, which professionally is a team effort, is for me a lone activity -- except that I often film/record other people, both with and without their knowledge or cooperation...........
And yet... I do share some of my videos, and look at others', and comment.
Yes, although I am a classic loner, or believe myself to be such, I still know, and feel, how much I need the company of other people, since I am, at root, still a social, cultural, creature. But not all the time. As the topical saying goes, I still want to cut the cards myself.
And yet, here I am, participating with you, my brothers and sisters in this mini idol carousel where we all ride together until we one by one get hung separately... oh dear... that was almost too macabre even for me.
Time to pour myself some coffee I think.
;-)
