This weekend I made a decision.

Oh, sorry... what I mean is "Good morning. How are you? Did you have a nice weekend? Oh, good. Glad to hear it/Really sorry that it didn't go the way you planned.  You look nice today.  I hope you have a good day and that all is well... oh, and btw - This weekend, I made a decision."

I took a hard look at the numbers we have signing up and the people who have *said* they want to sign up, but haven't yet... and the calendar.

We are nearing the US Thanksgiving holiday, as well as the end of that National Novel Writing Month thing and while we may be able to get everyone in place before that happens, I'm not confident right now that it will take place.

So I've decided to put a Week 0 into place - one that will bridge the gap and make sure everyone still has something to do. :)

The Week 0 topic is posted: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/863082.html

It's an Introduction. Some people will take it literally and introduce themselves. Some will take it as an introduction to their world. Others will just treat it as a "free topic" and write whatever it was that they wanted to write anyway. So in other words, it's a good introduction to LJ Idol. ;)

Sign-ups are going to be open until December 1st: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/861191.html  so please tell your friends!!

When Dec 1st comes along, even if we don't get another person - we will be getting started and figuring things out.

*groans*

Not Introduction again.

*perks up*

It's not "graded" so I can do whatever I please, including my favourite "telegraph-style" writing I know is not good for the reading flow.

What is "telegraph style"?

It is when the parts of the entry are linked only by the logic in my mind, they don't flow from one to another.

A paragraph on something French, a paragraph on something English, a paragraph on something Russian for example, the logical tie implicitly being the "stuff I learned while speaking languages".

Take something your brain is currently circling over, and write out the catch phrases. That's what I did, anyway. And got a kick out of nobody being the wiser (because only one topic will be chosen).

My brain is knee deep in motion capture data processing and finalizing, so it's not thinking much in terms of "words" and "sentences" lol

My weekend was... surreal. In a very bad way. For those of you who don't already know, my mother passed away suddenly at age 72 in the wee hours of Saturday. The coroner thinks she had what's commonly called "walking pneumonia."

We had just seen her the week before, at my niece's first birthday party. She was in great spirits and seemed her normal self. I'd imagine she was hiding how she really felt, in order to not dampen the celebration.

Right now we are in my hometown while we spend time with family and prepare for next week's memorial service. I am staying in the competition for the same reason I will be attending Philcon next weekend: I need some normalcy in my life. More than that, I need something positive to focus on. Mom's death taught me not to put things off, good or bad. That means I will finally be making an eye doctor appointment to get those bifocals I know I need. I will also be doing more "fun" things, like throwing myself into my current writing project. LJI has always been a great well of inspiration and support, which is why I want to stay in the game.

Today, we are taking the kids to one of my mom's favorite parks to commune with the nature she so loved and to take a break from all the "dumb stuff we gotta do."

As my son is saying right now while playing monster trucks, ready, set, go.

I'm sorry for your loss Alyce. So sudden like that, I know that's hard to reconcile. I applaud your attitude, and hope your normalcy helps.
