Results - Week 39
Mar. 2nd, 2015 09:58 pmThere are weeks when I read the entries and I go "Wow. This is why I do this!"
There are also weeks when the votes go so wonky that I say "Why the hell do I do this?!?!?"
This was both of those weeks.
I'll come out and say it - there were some voting irregularities that impacted 1 of the 2 results.
Honestly, there were minors ones from almost everyone, to the point that if I just tossed the votes, they end up coming down nearly in the same exact order that the final vote total.
The one who is definitely leaving us is
jexia, who has been absolutely amazing this season. Thank you so much for coming out and being such a force to be reckoned with! I hope to see you in the Home Game, and in the Jury, helping to decide how this whole thing is going to play out!
The Jury ended up giving immunity to
gratefuladdict! Congratulations for staying in the fray. (and this week, that's no small feat!)
That means that the next lowest will be leaving us - but that's where it gets tricky, because there are quite a few of the discrepancies in those votes.
I *could* strip them out, but it would still be pretty close, and let's be honest, I don't think any actual contestant is telling their friends "Vote with multiple accounts!!!" There are people just getting a little too excited. Which, I understand that. This is exciting!
I'm not going to put the two in the tie head to head in Redemption. They will be in the main poll. But I will have my eyes on everyone, even more than I do now.
Let's see if we can calm it down for next week. OK?

Apologies to
jexia for making her goodbye post me yelling at people. But people should be yelled at when you are eliminated! :)

Date: 2015-03-03 03:33 am (UTC)I don't speak out here much, but I truly hope we can all keep on the up-and-up for the remainder of this thing. I don't even know who is voting for me--I am flabbergasted and so incredibly humbled, so thank you so much to whoever is out there. I pray that there isn't anyone doing weird multiple voting things in my direction, or anyone else's. It takes away from the beauty of this contest, which is probably costing us all sweat, tears, and maybe blood at this point. I am thankful to be here surrounded by some incredible writers, and I can't wait to see how it plays out.

Date: 2015-03-03 04:04 am (UTC)As for the other shenanigans, I hope it was just enthusiasm that caused UNintentional hyjinx. I would hope everyone was honorable and aboveboard. Otherwise, what's the point.
Oh and Sue... I vote for you, you are totally worth it too!

Date: 2015-03-03 04:05 am (UTC)I've color-coded the results so that you can see when votes were taken away (red) and when votes were solo-votes for only one person (yellow). I've also counted the number of solo votes, and the number of votes that have been changed (end of the second column). The number of solo votes is probably about ~10% overcounted due to people coming back to vote for other people aside from their first choice. Of course, it may also be undercounted by some voters taking votes away after initially casting them.
I post these results without any commentary and draw no conclusions. I don't have a bone in this competition; I simply believe that more information and transparency is a good on principle.

Date: 2015-03-03 04:30 am (UTC)I'd say "it's been fun", but really it hasn't been for the last 20 weeks. What can I say, I'm stubborn.
That said, I got out of it more than I wanted to- impetus to write, including my first-ever fiction, two sold stories, and a couple of new friends.
Good luck to the remaining six - you are all much better writers than me, and I suspect you have more drive to actually do it. Have fun :)

Date: 2015-03-03 04:39 am (UTC)This is the end of a very tight competition. While it's tempting to say that obviously this is the work of someone out to get you!, stop and consider a few things:
First, you are fairly well-liked in the community (at least inasmuch as the comments here seem to reflect that). It doesn't seem likely that there would be a conspiracy to get you out.
Second, you wrote fan fiction this week in Idol. Speaking as someone who has read all of the pieces each week, I can tell you and honestly that everyone who has written fan fiction for Idol has gotten voted out that week, with the exception of when it was a "no vote" week. Derivative works do not do well in Idol.
Finally—if you are going to argue for a conspiracy, you could argue that there was a conspiracy to keep you in, as there seem to be 26 votes on that sheet that are for you and only you.
I'm sorry that you are leaving Idol feeling bitter about the experience, but I really don't think there was a conspiracy to "out" you—if there was, it would have succeeded much earlier on.

Date: 2015-03-03 06:23 am (UTC)The thing is, it's not like an election where everyone stands in line once, then marks their ballot and gets a sticker or paints their finger blue. People go back and forth to the thing the whole time, and some of them have crazy-ass (to me) habits.
For example, pretty early on, I just hit "submit" and cast no vote. A lot of people don't realize you can do that. I do it because I enjoy watching the red lines move, even before I've finished reading. When I do that, I'm counted as a voter, but no one's vote total changes.
Some people also like to watch the poll, but think they have to click something, so they vote for someone with a bye or they only vote for themselves, or they vote for everyone. (I've seen people admit to that in comments - it makes me a little nuts.) And then when they are ready to vote, they go back and change it. In their case, and in mine, when we're actually finally voting, the number of voters won't change, but the vote total will.
Some people still haven't figured out, as many times as we've harped on it, that LJ broke the poll a few years back, and if you vote and then change your vote, the poll will eliminate all but the first of your check marks - so unless you remember to go back and re-check them, you're unvoting for everyone south of your first alphabetical choice.
And, (here's another thing that makes poll watchers a little nuts) some people regularly "vote as they go." Meaning they intentionally go click the box of the entry they just read, and go back and read the next one and go back to the poll and add that vote. (Given the broken poll issue - that's just crazy making, but hey, Idolers are a colorful bunch.
Then you have to figure the timing. Idolers are also procrastinators. All you have to do is look at the Topic post a couple hours before the deadline. The votes change like crazy town just before the polls close, and most of that is "Oh, shit! It's eight already? I haven't voted."
And the way people remember to think, "Oh, shit! etc.," is someone sends out an email or makes a post or otherwise mentions, "Hey, have you voted yet?" And if people do that in front of a large enough group of people, it can change quickly.
And, every single season, the results have come down to not only who is writing well, but who is reminding people to vote. And at some point someone calls poll hijinx. Every. Single. Time.
And sometimes people vote strategically.
And, having stared at the spreadsheet for a while, (which I will do more of, because I have a sickness), I feel the need to point out, as dramatic as those green blocks are, even the darkest of them only represents a 3 vote increase. In a six minute time span in the last two hours of voting doesn't surprise me.
I am surprised at all the pink boxes, though everyone seems to have them, and again I remind myself, for the sake of sanity, not to assign a meaning to the pretty numbers in the box because there lies madness.
I've enjoyed you in Idol this season. You should be proud of your work and your success.

Date: 2015-03-04 12:29 am (UTC)Albeit a little less fascinating than getting genuine concrit or insightful positive feedback. Let not the butthurt conceal the light at the end of the tunnel--you're all winners of production. I could open 100,000 cans of alphabet soup simultaneously in my kiddie pool and never come close to the characters and climaxes and worlds of the competitors this season.
Which is good to know, because that would be very cost prohibitive.
