There is only 1 more day to get a LJ IDOL shirt! http://teespring.com/LJIdol

(the alternate one will be available for a couple more days after that, but despite people asking for them, no one has actually ordered one, so I think everyone who wanted a shirt got the original)

So if you *are* interested, now would be the time to get one!

If you're not - keep on scrolling!

We are coming to the end of 2014. It was an *extremely* "mixed" year for me - and the lows were pretty damn low.

I hope that 2015 proves to be better.

How about you? As you assemble your "Best of 2014" lists - what stands out for you?

First?!?

Right now there are people installing our new oil burner. They're banging everything around and it feels like the house is shaking :shudder:

OTOH we'll have BOTH heat and hot water tonight!

Oh ugh, people banging about in the house is the worst! I hope you enjoy your hot water, though!

(sorry it took me so long to get back to you!)

Housemate said her shower was lovely and stayed consistently hot. I'm going to take one in a few minutes and see for myself :)

Also HEAT!

(no worries! there's no expiration date on replies, and also no expectations. :) I'm just happy you're able to type at all with that wrist!)

Hooray for hot showers! I hope the new heater lasts you for a realllllly long time!

I'm not even going to try to make a "Best/Worst of 2014" list. There's more in the "Worst" column and, for the sake of my mental health, I'd rather downplay those as much as possible and think about our "vacation" back in August (3-day weekend in a neighboring state) and how much I want to extend that come next summer. I want to think about The Boyz and how far Oakley [aka new-ish husky] has come along in his behavior compared to when we first adopted him. I want to think about how Max snuggles up to me.

OTOH I'm trying not to think about Potential Wrist Surgery in a couple of months. That could easily derail 2015 if I'm not careful.

This year was pretty shitty in a lot of ways for a lot of people, I think. I hope 2015 brings you good luck, good health, and lots of good time with both cuddly critters and people. :)

I'm really glad the year is coming to a close. I love these in-between moments - New Year's Eve is a close second to Halloween for my favorite holiday. I'm not a partier, but I like the idea of celebrating beginnings and endings, especially since it's all made-up. It's such a human thing to do, to say "this is the end" and "this is the beginning" and draw these lines in the sand. Over here is one thing, over there another. Really it's all just one big messy muddled middle, of course, but it's lovely to divide things up, to reflect and turn things over and decide what stories to keep and what to set aside. We're such storytelling critters.

I think the best moment of 2014 for me, personally, was getting my first professional fiction sale. That, and just a continual realization that I have some really awesome friends who are there for me, even when they're not in close proximity. It's neat.

I've been super grateful for the break (oh good FROG I would never have been able to keep up with Idol and all the other stuff going on) but I am also very much looking forward to things starting up again later this week. This little pause and quiet was nice, but I miss y'all.

2014 was a GREAT year for me. No complaints. And I have Idol to thank for one of the best parts - selling a short story! I've been so consumed with writing LOOOOOOOOOOOONG that I have ignored the fact that original short shorts (versus short fanfics) are also worth the time and effort. Idol has altered that perception for me and I reaped the benefits of that change. THANK YOU!!!

Slainthe!!! Here's to 2015!

I think I had three years this year, just for sheer volume. Dead friends, new arrivals, old faces, new continents, Cincinnati, Paris. An Idol season I'd had no intention of signing up for that taught me a lot, and gave me renewed confidence and drive for next year. A month of work where I did the work of five people. Technical articles and books published.

The scary bit is being a little disappointed that I didn't do more.

Maybe next year?

Worst: Having our stuff stolen from our hotel room last week - laptops, cameras, Christmas presents for the friends we were visiting, hubby's iPad, my Kindle, my insulin, etc.

Also, I noticed you failed to post a GR on my birthday (12/23) Gary! Harrumph!

Best: Finally making my 100 Weeks goal (although failing 130); Being able to travel with my hubby; getting our newest cat Inky Underfoot a few months ago; having my A1c test at a decent 7.5 (prior range over the last year being in the 7.7 - 8.1 range). W00t.

I get introspective and angsty around this time of year. I mean I'm getting nostalgic over a guy I was sort of involved with when I was like 16, that kind of introspective. Though every time I think this year was a complete waste and nothing good happened to me, I remember that I saw a baby whale and I think "Oh yeah, I saw a whale once."

...?!

Gary, where is this "alternate one" you speak of when referring to t-shirts? Is it just the "Canvas Triblend", or are you referring to something else?

I refuse to assemble my "Best of 2014 List" until 2014 is actually behind me -- it seems like "tempting Fate". All I will say is that like with you, the lows were pretty damned low... but there were some good points, too.
