Hello! I am happy that I get to see another round of this game. Waiting for the next topic to get the creative juices flowing. Trying to get back in productive mood in terms of work, school, etc.
One, I'm a former journalist. Two, I think it's a duty to be informed via the news medium(s) of ones choice. Three, so if it makes people twist a little? awesome.
I ate a turkey sammich for lunch and now my tummy hurts. Boo.
In other news, I am good. My job is boring, but it pays well. I can't wait to start teaching fitness classes at my gym, though. That will make life a little more fun.
Oooh, current events! This is the Big Apple. There's always something going on in the news here... *thinks hard*
1. Man, that was weird. I got the notification for the green-room post but not the topic post, so seeing the above comment made me confused!
2. In some ways I should be relieved that I'm not participating because, as one friend told me the other day, I live under a rock because I didn't know about the "One Laptop Per Child" program. I have not even turned on my television since I moved to this house in August. The only news I see is stuff that people post as links on Livejournal, usually.
3. Something I have noticed in a lot of LJ Idol posts is that people tack these little editorials and disclaimers onto their posts, either on the beginning, end, or both. I can't think of anyone's off-hand because I see it in lots of entries. Things like finding the time to write the entry or saying, "I wasn't sure what to write at first" etc. Or making apologies for their writing-style because of various factors (ex being sick, working over-time, etc). Keep these things out of your official post. Reserve them for the green room or your other personal journal entries. I like journal entries that can be self-sustaining and not call attention to the fact that it's a writing contest. Too many people make it sound like a homework assignment. Does this make any sense?
4. I am still in my pajamas. I really need to do more with my days off.
Man, I couldn't edit my comment after you replied to it! Haha.
I had wanted to add to #2 that while I do like to know about the Big Things going on in my city, country, and world, there's just SO MUCH news that it's too much for me to constantly follow. Someone wrote one of their "terror" LJ Idol entries on choosing to not watch the news because of so many tragic news stories. I am such an empathetic person that I cannot watch the news without weeping and feeling terrible for the rest of the evening.
I majored in Writing in college, but it was the introspective creative-writing, not outward-looking journalism. I did take a newswriting class but my first papers were rather mediocre because my professor said that I colored too many of my news-stories with my personal opinion. :^P
I'm glad you agree with me on #3! I was thinking, "Does anyone else notice this? Please tell me I'm not the only one!" Last season, I never made references to the fact that I was participating in LJ Idol. If I hadn't made a teensy-fonted footnote, separated by a dashed line, at the bottom mentioning LJ Idol, my friends would have never known I was competing in a contest. I've seen some really good entries tainted by little asides placed directly into the essay.

Date: 2007-11-27 06:48 pm (UTC)I think I mentioned the contest in one of my entries, because it made sense. Other than that, I include a horizontal rule with the topic.
I think it distracts.
[Edit: Oh yeah, and my aside for redoing my Week 2 entry... Doh!]
