In the midst of all the bad - something good happened: My belated birthday present!
Cynthia had bought us tickets to the Steelers-Jaguar game in Jacksonville. It was only the second time that I had been to a NFL game, and absolutely loved the experience. (I'll admit, it helped that it was a *win*. :D)
That definitely cheered me up a bit.
Of course, now the weekend is over and the last of those "moments to look forward to" are gone. So we come back to the harsh reality.
Fortunately, I *do* have something to look forward to tonight. I get to eliminate some people! The main competition poll closes at 9pm EDT http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/787328.html
The Last Chance Idol topic deadline/sign-up deadline is ALSO TONIGHT, an hour earlier, at 8pm... http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/787501.html

What cool thing(s) happened to YOU this weekend?

Date: 2014-10-06 02:04 pm (UTC)But considering what happened in Exhibit B, I've taken precautions. I've got the draft saved here on LJ, on the WordPress, and on my Tumblr. I have a smartphone now, which I did not have then, and last night I experimented with it and figured out how to copy and paste a link here if I need to. I will try to keep my battery usage to a minimum at work so it still has plenty of charge when I get home.
I'm getting there though. Got about half of it written. I see from the entries that have already been posted that people had some of the same ideas I did - the subway, and the naval warfare tactic. Luckily the story I went with doesn't use either of those.
If any of you remember her - the main character is Glitterface the Necrofairy again. :)
My company has seasons tickets for the Panthers, and I get to pick a game every year. It is an experience. This year we get to go to the game against the Saints. I imagine we will lose.

Date: 2014-10-06 02:13 pm (UTC)I FINISHED MY NOVEL.
OK, the first draft. But it's finished! (Until I start the next draft).
It's for this reason that I really decided against LCI. Sorry, Gary, because I know it would just make your day if I played ;P but I just didn't think I had the energy to put into it right now. The last few weeks of working to a deadline really knocked all the stuffing out of me.
Anyway. I read the bit about your bad news, and I'm really sorry. What a right PITA. But yay for the game tickets! Glad it was a cool experience.

Date: 2014-10-06 02:38 pm (UTC)(now don't be like me and take years and years to write a second draft, because it becomes rather demoralizing to drag it out so long)

Date: 2014-10-06 02:29 pm (UTC)The weekend was sort of cool - I started making (rubber stamping) some Christmas cards. I got 4 made on Sunday, which isn't a lot but then again they are each a unique design. Even though I use pre-formed white cards, the card fronts all have to be cut, layered, stamped, colored, etc. Sometimes I even use embossing powder, which creates a very cool, slightly raised and shiny design. This batch (there will be 6) is for a silent auction that my BFF Minikin is helping with. I will also be making a set of 6 Hanukkah cards, and if I have the time a set of 6 Happy Holiday / Generic Winter Holiday / Yule cards, without the Christmassy overtones of the first batch.
So yeah... the dining room table is now rather filled with my stamping stuff, LOL. (This icon is a card that I made a while back)

Date: 2014-10-06 02:40 pm (UTC)pot farmhundred year old cabin 1/2 mile down the road caught fire and the flames were going into the canopy of the conifers....And OH MY FUCKING GOD. Three hours of my life that are definitely being taken off my heart. CalFire are angels and three planes, two helicopters, and four water trucks later, they knocked it down. We learned SO MUCH. It took hours to recover. But the phone lines were melted and that's how we get our internet too so the weekend was lost entirely to living "real life".Then we spent two days with family and I'm drained dry.
And yeah.
Playing catch-up with Idol readings/votings today.

Date: 2014-10-06 04:09 pm (UTC)Notes to FB post by Hubby: Today was a beautiful summer day in October! Actually, the posted highs in Mission Viejo were 100° on Friday and 100° again yesterday (heat wave). Today might have been a few degrees cooler. However, down at the ocean it was just perfect, in the upper 70s, sun shining and water great. Since Julie has been swimming regularly in the local community pool for about six months, it was time for the ocean for her too! So today, Julie went for her first ocean swim. First with wetsuit and fins. Out to the second buoy. Then in to take off wetsuit and fins! Then, exceeding expectations, out to the first buoy, left along the buoy line to the next two buoys, then back to the first and in! Slow but steady with breaks. It was a great celebration of the one-year anniversay of the MRI that led to her surgery. And iced caffè mocha afterwards. —
Edit: probably close to 1/2 mile.

Date: 2014-10-06 05:12 pm (UTC)Got my biking in (not windy, for a change!) and did some yardwork... this always leads me to see how much more yardwork there IS. Argh.
I did some more LEGO Star Wars processsing of my son's stuff, for future sale. Then, we watched the LEGO movie! That movie is much more fun, I think, if you're familiar with the various auxiliary LEGO pieces. All of the "fire" moments use the LEGO flame piece, all of the water is tides of 1x1 bricks (and smoke is poofs of them), and the villain's headgear includes... two red LEGO coffee cups. ;)
It did make me covet random LEGO minifigures, just because they exist. I need Lizardman! Also, LEGO Batman is as adorable as ever-- chubby and pointy! There's a Minotaur I covet (from a coworker's desk display) too, but I didn't see him in the movie...

Date: 2014-10-06 05:25 pm (UTC)Holiday weekend things
Date: 2014-10-06 05:55 pm (UTC)But more importantly than that, it was Grand Final weekend in the football.
After a 43 year drought, my beloved South Sydney Rabbitohs won their 21st premiership. I was 12 last time they won, and I'm not ashamed to say I cried. A lot.
So that was the highlight of my weekend. Maybe of my whole year, or even longer

That and I watched The Maze Runner and wrote a film review for a website I started writing for. It isn't up yet. (The movie was okay, I guess.)
