Everyone is waiting for the main competition poll to be posted, but while you are waiting, there is still the matter of WHO HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO MOVE ON FROM LCI???

Notice I said "Opportunity". Because the 5 contestants with the most votes are eligible but they don't *have* to say "Yes". They can choose to stay in LCI for now, waiting until later to come into the competition. It's definitely something to consider carefully, and there are pros and cons of either move.

Those qualifying have 24 hours from now to email me at clauderainsrm@gmail.com to let me know if you DO NOT want to move into the main competition just yet. If you do not email me, I will assume that you do.

Who are those lucky few who qualified in Week 1?

They are none other than:

[livejournal.com profile] barrelofrain
[livejournal.com profile] emo_snal
[livejournal.com profile] mac_arthur_park
[livejournal.com profile] n3m3sis43
[livejournal.com profile] witchwife

Congratulations!! (and let me know!)

Hold on, I thought the vote wouldn't count?

I haven't even finished the reading yet. :(

No one got eliminated, so it didn't count that way.

I was so not expecting to have the opportunity to get back in this quickly.

I... um... it feels sort of lower-pressure in LCI, what with the smaller group and less exposure. For someone who has been struggling with the whole idea of deadlines and writing for an audience all season, this is a hard decision. I'd like to be back in the main competition at some point (and this could be my only chance), but hm.

Let me think on this. Congrats to the rest of y'all! :)

(It would be awesome if someone could get back in instead of me if I chose not to, but I am told it does not work that way.)

You know what I'm loving Gary (Llama)? I'm loving the number of entries that are written less journal-y (it's a word, dammit!) and more in a creative writing style (my milieu!).

Rock on to those top five!

I wanted to pick my favorite, but then [livejournal.com profile] n3m3sis43 pulls out sentences like, "She sighs, relishing the crunch of bones between her teeth. A pleasant lassitude steals over her. Her leaves droop, and for a time the ecstasy of fullness is all she knows." And, I mean, can I get a cigarette (and I don't even smoke!). The writing is rich, haunting, and elegant and I found myself wanting more.

And then [livejournal.com profile] emo_snal does what he does best and gives us all these very pretty illusions, like, "The morning light slanted in low among the big leaves," or "Sir Helix passed ant shepherds tending their flocks of aphids, and a silent praying mantis standing vigil lower down on the shrub." Honestly! I'm right there with ya, dude!

But, we need look no further for that emotional connection to the writing than with [livejournal.com profile] barrelofrain, doing what she does! She gives us memory recall and sensory perception. The opening line screams to be recognized with this, "In the garden at the big house on the shore, there were hydrangea bushes that came back blue and lavender and white and pink and white each year, the pride and not of my great-grandmother." It's a secret place and she's about to share it. Great build on curiosity!

On the flipside of the emotional, [livejournal.com profile] mac_arthur_park gives us such a personal story. Vibrant in its detail (I'm just pulling from the first two sentences here by example, but the writing is littered with gems like this, "I go back to pulling dead leaves off of the scraggly basil plant, the only green thing is this damp basement apartment. At least, it is unless you count the mold slowly creeping up the cheap chipboard furniture."), I found myself wandering through it (already knowing the big finish from the warning at the top) like I was weaving through a maze. The other shoe, suspended, was just waiting to be dropped. It's abusive and dark and the garden is a symbol for life and death. It's really pretty amazing is what it is.

And last, but definitely not least, is [livejournal.com profile] witchwife's entry. Have you ever felt so out of place or wrong in a situation your skin crawled with it? That's the way I felt the woman in the story read. It was uncomfortable and with lines like this (so masterfully done), "The partiers were oblivious to anything further than a collective easygoing delerium. Both repulsed and compelled, I stayed," you got to sense that even in a place that might be bliss, something was dreadfully off. It was good theatre (I could see it on a stage, really).

So, yeah. How does one pick between all this awesomeness? The answer? I don't think one does! =D

BWEE! <3

That's the problem in this game, now. There are just so _many_ great people competing. I don't know where I'd find the time to tell everyone of this awesomeness. Do you think there might be a career (with money even???) in reviewing online blog entries for Idol??? ZOMG! Maybe we've stumbled onto something! =D =D =D

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] mistearyusdiva2. The hardest part is, while these five are AMAZING, there were just about half a dozen more I could have gushed over and another dozen that were hardcore incredible, too! This game is just too rough these days! (And I'm rusty as all get out! I'm a little worried about re-competing, to be honest!)

I find it fascinating that everyone here was already in the main game for a time this season. Every one of them is amazing so I'm not surprised, just commenting.

Won't be receiving an e-mail from me.
