*looks around*

Is this where the Peter Capaldi discussion groups meets?

Or has that meeting place been moved to the "rest of the internet"? I didn't see a sign when I came in.

What I *did* see was that there was a topic due tomorrow: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/773244.html and an active Work Room with people discussing things: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/773455.html

So hopefully there will be people in here, discussing things as well.

How was your weekend?

My parents and nephew came down from NY to visit for the weekend. It was nice, but too short. Mom got us a Cards Against Humanity game. That was way too much fun. They stayed long enough this morning to go down to the bus stop and see Nicky off to his first day of kindergarten. It's been busy.

and Frist!!!

They werent airing it in Australia yet ... even in the future nothing works!

Home safe, and mostly sound. Nap, mow lawn, nap, laundry, nap, write entry .... then see if I can find the new ep. On demand.

Who's Peter Cap...oh, right. New Doctor. One fine day I'll actually check out the new Who and see if it matches up to the old. Nothing will ever be greater than the Key to Time series, though. A true classic, that one.

I'm still on day 2 of my weekend. Yesterday I went to a crafty yarn ladies meetup where I was the youngest one in the room (until the latecomer showed up). Today I'm going to call to get my brakes fixed. They're getting shuddery and that's not good.

The seasons with Nine were good, most of Ten was good, then I stopped watching ... they got a new showrunner and the program went straight to hell. Even a lot of Whovians will tell you to avoid Eleven like the plague. And probably this new guy too.

Greetings from NH!

We're leaving here late this afternoon and won't be home until 8-9PM tonight (we're doing this to avoid rush hour traffic which is horrific at the state border never mind closer to the city). I work at the buttcrack of dawn tomorrow and I'm still training my mentee(?) It'll be a miracle if I post something by the deadline, tbh.

OTOH this rental is lovely, the lake is lovelier, I went kayaking for the first time yesterday, and I could sleep for hours on the most comfortable bed imaginable :)

He's the new Doctor Who. He actually appeared on the Pompeii episode back when David Tennant was the Doctor. I didn't know that until I was told about it.

I am feeling like a champion because I just started Chapter Four of my novel! I realise that does mean I'm still quite at the beginning but there was a definite sense of 'woohoo!' there. I'm currently at 23.5K which means I'm *almost* halfway finished.

Also, I'm hosting a friendzy for a friend of mine, so if anyone is interested, just hop on over to my LJ and check it out!

I've not watched the new Dr Who and I feel like I'm a bit too late to the party to start now, but I like Peter Capaldi. He was awesome in The Musketeers.

We no longer get BBC America so I haven't watched Doctor Who since Matt Smith's first season :( We're getting reruns of the Tennant seasons on one of those cable-only rerun stations, though.

Capaldi isn't "my" doctor (that would be Tennant, although I did very much love Matt Smith) but I do like him and am looking forward to the new season!

In other news, still pounding away at my entry. I've got two paragraphs done (yay) and am slowly slogging away at the rest of it in between doing "real work." With luck, I'll get it finished and posted sometime tonight (if I know my habits, maybe around 1:00 AM or something).

I am looking forward to catching up to Peter Capaldi's DW episodes in due course. I've always admired his work as an actor.

This weekend was deadly quiet at the store, so my employees and I dug in and CLEANED ALL THE THINGS.

And then I went home and sorted socks, which gave me a sad, because that task always reminds me of my mom. But now my dresser drawers look tidy, so that's something.

That Eccleston cat was smokin' hot. But I don't "know" Who. I do love love love Capaldi's Doc duds. Yummy. Brogues are a particular weakness of mine.

I'm working on a community newsletter.

And wrote a fairy tale this week. So all is good for me in Idol-land.

I'm not a Whovian, so my weekend was spent suddenly making a decorated birthday cake for my son's 'party,' and watching not-enough of the Simpsons Marathon.

I'm not sure the machine is taping all of those episodes, or has enough room. I've seen some favorite lines go by, but where is Abe proclaiming, "I dreamed I was the belle of the Olllld West" ?

Why won't stupid Netflix stream the show so that I'm not at the mercy of the DVR/Tivo thingy?

The biggest news of my weekend was waking up in the middle of Saturday night wondering why my dream felt so real, realizing my husband could feel us shaking too and that it was an earthquake, and then rolling over and going back to sleep. We're far enough south of the epicenter that nothing anywhere near us was damaged, but realizing that an earthquake woke you is still a little surreal.

Date: 2014-08-25 07:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] halfshellvenus.livejournal.com
Wow! We're in Sacramento, so the news of the earthquake was a surprise (it's hard to notice those from a distance at 3am).

Glad you and yours are okay. It's sad looking at the damage in Napa, and I hadn't even thought about miserable side-effects like a quake starting off gas fires in mobile homes. Trailer parks are just doomed-- tornadoes hate them too.

oh my weekend was fine....my today SUCKED.

I got laid off.....from a bar/restaurant job...that I only worked on the weekends!!!!

yeah. really. I've been there since the doors opened 3 years ago. I'm widely regarded by the rest of the staff and the regular customers as "the best server there"

I got the "company is going through some changes and unfortunately, you're not a part of them" speech. Everyone is shocked....even the office manager who had to tell me the owners were "parting ways with me".

I'd really like to know what I did wrong, but i keep getting told I didn't do anything (except, in my mind, not be a 20-something)

So now, I'm really a "out of work" actor. fun times.....maybe i'll get my entry in, maybe i won't. obviously...priorities.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that :( Not being a 20-something may just be what you did wrong (how dare you age?!) but they're shooting themselves in the foot if they're trying to save money by getting rid of experienced staff.

I hope you find something else really soon.

Most of my Saturday was spent doing this:

And Sunday was spent cleaning and dealing with my boy twin's conjunctivitis. It's Tuesday night here and it still hasn't cleared up. It makes me sad because they only have 13 more sessions at Playcentre before they start school, and he/we are missing them :(

Bummer about the conjunctivitis. That is never fun.
