Green Room - Week 16 - Day 4
Aug. 4th, 2014 10:19 amFor those who missed it yesterday, I extended the deadline to get entries in until Tuesday at 8pm EDT. So make sure that you get them in: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/764463.html
Those rare times when I show mercy, I always get the question - "What about people who don't follow the community, who might not see that announcement!" (1) that's why I always do a recap of important information in Green Rooms and (2) At this point - you're still not following the community to make sure you get important information??? If you know someone who isn't though, make sure to let them know!
And then kick them until they sign up for updates!
Then kick them some more, because they deserve it!!

This weekend marked the "Tax Free Weekend" in Florida, which meant it was spent doing school shopping. Yay school shopping! /end sarcasm
What "fun" did you engage in this weekend?

Date: 2014-08-04 05:07 pm (UTC)I can't help but think that these "modern" Renaissance Festivals are not so different from those held in Renaissance times. The entertainment was fun, the shops full of amazing artistry, and the food delicious.
We dipped candles, bought hair garlands and shot bows and arrows, then watched the "King and Queen" parade through the grounds, complete with real live elephants. :)
Then we looked for the car for 20 minutes because none of us remembered to look at any landmarks in the big field where it was parked...

Date: 2014-08-04 05:46 pm (UTC)Our local girl scouts had a Ren Fair event when my daughter was 5, and her troop didn't want to officially go, so I took her. Because why not?
She enjoyed the costumes, the pseudo-play, and the castle bounce-house (!). But what REALLY got her was the artisan blacksmith, who was making creations right there at the event. He showed the audience each of his incremental changes, between putting the work back in the forge to heat up again. I barely dragged her away to buy something for a snack, and then she went back to eat it while she watched him keep going.
He was really good, and I'll admit-- I was as fascinated by the whole thing as she was. Though I would expect that more from an adult than a 5-year-old!

Date: 2014-08-04 05:12 pm (UTC)I had a crazy-busy weekend which required all of yesterday to recover from. Ergh. All day Friday setting up our annual Bazaar and then spent Saturday on my feet without a break photographing locals in a fun photobooth. My assistant shared my time/space continuum but she punctuated it by drinking endless SOLOS of kegged porter and was useless to me by mid-afternoon. ;)

Date: 2014-08-04 10:49 pm (UTC)Watching and setting alerts aren't the same. I helped my husband through this, as he was an LJ n00b, but I don't know how the people coming over from Facebook or what-not do it.

Saturday I met up with my friend

Date: 2014-08-04 05:49 pm (UTC)There was a lot of poking at my story, very slowly, but now it's done. There was stir-craziness from sitting on the couch all day for that, so we went out for frozen yogurt. \o/
The main things were introducing our son to Season 2 of "24", now that he's old enough and watched the 12-hour mini-series with us. (I'm gonna need a hacksaw...)

Date: 2014-08-04 08:33 pm (UTC)Thoughts about "24"? You obviously think it's worthwhile. I need a show.
Yeah, TGM is NOT Dead Man Walking. It's brill, isn't it?

Date: 2014-08-04 08:42 pm (UTC)We've really enjoyed "24" over the years, but we joined it in S2 and went back later to watch S1. I think you could skip all of S1, and I possibly would-- you'll want to kill both the wife and daughter in it, and the show hit its stride more in S2. Though you miss a little background, but not much. The "Television Without Pity" archives would be an excellent source for S1, and you'd enjoy it more than that season of the show! *koff*
S2 rules, though. :D

Date: 2014-08-04 08:58 pm (UTC)My weekend was mostly low-key, lots of errands and cleaning, and a bbq with friends on Saturday night.
This morning I got to go in for a minor surgical procedure and feel surprisingly okay at the moment. I keep wondering if I'm really this okay, or if they gave me some pain medication before I came out of anesthesia that's going to wear off. Heh looking for the other shoe in high places, that's me.
