[identity profile] clauderainsrm.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] therealljidol
For those who missed it yesterday, I extended the deadline to get entries in until Tuesday at 8pm EDT. So make sure that you get them in: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/764463.html

Those rare times when I show mercy, I always get the question - "What about people who don't follow the community, who might not see that announcement!" (1) that's why I always do a recap of important information in Green Rooms and (2) At this point - you're still not following the community to make sure you get important information??? If you know someone who isn't though, make sure to let them know!

And then kick them until they sign up for updates!

Then kick them some more, because they deserve it!!

This weekend marked the "Tax Free Weekend" in Florida, which meant it was spent doing school shopping. Yay school shopping! /end sarcasm

What "fun" did you engage in this weekend?

I still have to do school shopping :( I do not look forward to that chaos.

My entry is done, but, given all of the missing entries, I guess an extension was a good idea!

Besides our team of awesomeness, I wonder now many other Idol folks are busy with GISHWHES madness?

They still do the tax free thing in FL? I remember shopping for shoes and no taxes when my kids were smaller and we'd be visiting my mom in SRQ.
Oh, speaking of shopping, we got a new baby kitty! Another all black!
Her name is Apple. ( pre-named by the shelter folk), 12 weeks old. Good nerd name. She's sweet as can be! AW

aw, kitten! An ex-boyfriend of mine let me name his pet snake and I called it Apple (less nerdy more biblical), and was astonished at how many people didn't get it.

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy. Finished an overdue fic for a fic fest. Those were pretty much the highlights.

Thanks for the extension on the entries, Gary! I was slightly panicking, but now I feel better.

Took my kids and granddaughter to their first Renaissance Festival and had a great time. Of course, the last one I went to was probably over 30 years ago in NY, so it was like an almost new experience for me as well.

I can't help but think that these "modern" Renaissance Festivals are not so different from those held in Renaissance times. The entertainment was fun, the shops full of amazing artistry, and the food delicious.

We dipped candles, bought hair garlands and shot bows and arrows, then watched the "King and Queen" parade through the grounds, complete with real live elephants. :)

Then we looked for the car for 20 minutes because none of us remembered to look at any landmarks in the big field where it was parked...

Oh, boy.

Our local girl scouts had a Ren Fair event when my daughter was 5, and her troop didn't want to officially go, so I took her. Because why not?

She enjoyed the costumes, the pseudo-play, and the castle bounce-house (!). But what REALLY got her was the artisan blacksmith, who was making creations right there at the event. He showed the audience each of his incremental changes, between putting the work back in the forge to heat up again. I barely dragged her away to buy something for a snack, and then she went back to eat it while she watched him keep going.

He was really good, and I'll admit-- I was as fascinated by the whole thing as she was. Though I would expect that more from an adult than a 5-year-old!

*cries* I miss back-to-school shopping for kidlings.

I had a crazy-busy weekend which required all of yesterday to recover from. Ergh. All day Friday setting up our annual Bazaar and then spent Saturday on my feet without a break photographing locals in a fun photobooth. My assistant shared my time/space continuum but she punctuated it by drinking endless SOLOS of kegged porter and was useless to me by mid-afternoon. ;)

Let's see. Yesterday Spouse and I went to see Guardians of the Galaxy and then joined friends to Bread And Deep Fry ALL THE THINGS! The madness included unagi roll, spicy tuna roll, actual hot dogs turned into corn dogs, bananas (OMG I AM DOING THAT AGAIN) avocado, and Chinese moon cakes.

Two thumbs up, but a starch hangover this morning for this diabetic. Glad to be at the gym to start today on metabolizing the excess.

Saturday I met up with my friend [livejournal.com profile] tshuma for a mocha and a multiple hours chat and catch up. A quieter day, and well worth it.

Um. Weekend?

There was a lot of poking at my story, very slowly, but now it's done. There was stir-craziness from sitting on the couch all day for that, so we went out for frozen yogurt. \o/

The main things were introducing our son to Season 2 of "24", now that he's old enough and watched the 12-hour mini-series with us. (I'm gonna need a hacksaw...) [livejournal.com profile] rayaso and I also watched "The Green Mile," which was completely different from what we expected and also really, really good. The subject matter had pretty much kept us at bay for... what, almost a decade now?

Date: 2014-08-04 08:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bleodswean.livejournal.com
I stuttered with my prompt response, too. Glad you got a finished product!

Thoughts about "24"? You obviously think it's worthwhile. I need a show.

Yeah, TGM is NOT Dead Man Walking. It's brill, isn't it?

Date: 2014-08-04 08:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] halfshellvenus.livejournal.com
TGM was fantastic, though the fact that it's set on Death Row is exactly the kind of thing that makes us both feel emotionally exhausted before we've even watched the movie! The performances were really good throughout. It really suffered from coming out the same year as a bunch of other good movies.

We've really enjoyed "24" over the years, but we joined it in S2 and went back later to watch S1. I think you could skip all of S1, and I possibly would-- you'll want to kill both the wife and daughter in it, and the show hit its stride more in S2. Though you miss a little background, but not much. The "Television Without Pity" archives would be an excellent source for S1, and you'd enjoy it more than that season of the show! *koff*

S2 rules, though. :D

Most of my weekend was spent being busy and horrifying [livejournal.com profile] icaruslived by telling him I hadn't started my piece yet.

I got it done, though! :3

Back-to-school shopping was my favorite, I still get unreasonably happy when I acquire brightly colored post-its.

My weekend was mostly low-key, lots of errands and cleaning, and a bbq with friends on Saturday night.

This morning I got to go in for a minor surgical procedure and feel surprisingly okay at the moment. I keep wondering if I'm really this okay, or if they gave me some pain medication before I came out of anesthesia that's going to wear off. Heh looking for the other shoe in high places, that's me.

Also, Guardians of the Galaxy was indeed awesome. "I'm distracting you, you turd-blossom!" for the win!
