I'm back, but I'm not "entirely back", as anyone coming off vacation can probably relate to...

So I'm giving you a bit of a present: ONE MORE DAY to get these entries in!

http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/759800.html

Deadline is tomorrow at 8pm EDT.

This busy girl says "Oh Gods, Gary, I love you!" :) Writing, but not done.

Glad you had a great time!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've got something halfway written and given what's going on here today, I was honestly wondering if I should take a bye even though I didn't want to.

Yes, this is what happens when you work 10+ days straight.

Same here. I was atrocious with writing this week, and had to cram all the writing into today in among all the anxiety of spaying our dog and watching over her after the general anesthesia wore off.

So glad I can sleep on it now!

How's your doggie now? :concerned look:

I once had a friend who had her life-away-from-work down to a science. She actually blocked out actual time to do certain things, like every night from 6 to 7 she'd go to the gym, she'd allot herself X time for dinner, Y time for laundry, Z time for watching TV, etc. When she decided to look for another job she'd block out a chunk of time on certain days to devote to her job hunt. It was rather intriguing to me, but it also left me feeling a bit sorry for her in the lack of spontaneity department.

If given free-reign of my schedule (ie, I didn't have a child), this is probably what I would do. I like routine. I like sticking to routine. It makes me happy.

I guess it's a good thing I have a child who thrives best with routine. ;) Of course, my job plus my kid makes it kind of impossible to really HAVE that sort of "my whole day is blocked out down to the minute," thing, but it's nice to dream.

And it doesn't mean I don't try to do it with what I can, either. =p

I've tried sticking to a schedule like that at various times but it never became routine except for 1) things I'd intentionally paid money for, like the gym or a class, or 2) things I really REALLY wanted and was willing to make sacrifices to get them.

It's so difficult not only when Real Life gets the way, but if you have a child (or children) in addition to that...some people managed to achieve all that and then some. How they do it I have no idea.

I achieved something close to it when Ev was deployed and it was just me and Bob at home. Or just me at home, working, on the first two deployments. I had a set time I'd do xyz, unless I was at work during those times, of course.

My own routine can be flexible now but yeah, I don't know how anyone has a strict schedule with kids, especially if the kiddos are young.

I'm the exact opposite. I make plans and don't stick to them because it feels constraining. But I'm learning that a good plan and/or routine is akin to a walking stick, really... and it can keep me from getting overwhelmed. The only problem is separating the plans that SHOULD work from the plans that DO work!

I know what you mean! I finally discovered that I can take one of two approaches - either try to do as many items on my list as possible, or do a batch of work on one thing, like build an entire website and that's all I do for two days :) I kept trying to be "balanced" and it was not a success!

Those both sound like great plans, I'll give them a try!

In fact, I'll do them both today because I am working through a ginormous mountain of washing (batch-working laundry day so I only have to worry about it once a week) but I have loads of time sitting around too -- how much can I get done by then? The race is on!

She's better, thank you. :) We let her out in the evening and she looked like she wanted to run around a little even, naughty thing.

I try to be more organized sometimes, but grow tired of it very quickly, when I do not absolutely have to be. But whatever works for her.

Naughty girl :) I'm happy she's obviously emerged from the anesthesia with no after effects. Back when our Missy had to have surgery she was in la-la land for a couple of days before she came out of it. My stomach was in knots the entire time :/

It's much easier for me to be more organized at work than here at home. I'm in no way a slob, but I tend to be more lax at home because, like you said, I also tire quickly of it when there's no real reason (as opposed to work) to maintain it.

Thank you, Gary (although I already finished my entry today) ;)

I hope you had a great vacation!

I love you for this. I have just written my entry, and was thinking that it would have been much better to sleep on it, and how nice it would've been to have a "regular" Monday deadline, and now so it is. Aw.

I'm very happy about this deadline extension. I had the idea for this topic the same day it went up, so I'd thought I might even get mine in incredibly early for once, and have been trying to write it every day since, but, the party required for me to contact for "research" (i.e., fact checking), who lives out of the country, and has been traveling from there to here, has been a bit difficult to reach this week. I was in the process of putting this entry up when I caught this, and breathed a sign of relief, as now I can finish it as it needs to be finished, without leaving out a significant important element of the story. Thank you, Gary vacation!

But, but... I... did so much last minute work in a rush!

so much for the fight my bf and I had where he said I procrastinate and that people probably hate me or think i'm selfish or have a "sense of entitlement" because I "wait until the last minute" to post my entry. He's going to be so disappointed.

Oh wait, you said one more day.

I'll see myself out.

Only 69 people actually got their entries in before the originally set deadline of Sunday July 27 at 7pm. Not sure how many of the rest still have byes, but it certainly would have narrowed the field considerably had the deadline not been extended.
