Death by Bye...

I knew that the "two bye" system, where you had to declare you were using one of them would get people. I didn't expect 6 in week 2. But *shrug* what can you do?

edit to correct eliminations. I knew that didn't sound right, that there was one more, and sure enough there was!

In some ways you think "144" and go "wow, that's a long time to go" - and it is. Not going to lie about that. However, it is also week 2 and you have outlasted *10 people*!!! Plus 3 more fall this week in the poll, and there are 2 people with only 0 byes left, and um, a bunch with only one. So you should really feel good about having made it to this point.

So...are we still moving forward with the regular elimination system? I would think so, but that would eliminate a staggering 8 people from the competition this week, not to mention anyone who has decided to drop out.

oh yes, all of those eliminations technically took place *before* the vote started, so the various rules I have set up don't cover that.

It does do better for your chances, after all - you've already made it past 10 people!!

Good god, this contest apparently produces more noise than owning a credit card. For people with federally-protected learning disabilities, and who can't keep up with the constant flow of noise, what the hell is going on and why did those people get eliminated? We have two by/uy/i/ye, but we cannot use them?

If we can't use our byes, or by/uy/i or whatever it is, what other goofy rules do I need to know about.

Is this like the movie "Old School" where the whole contest comes down to filing a form? If goofy rules are going to get me eliminated because my brain isn't designed to cope with Byzantine tripe, then tell me now.

no you can use them, but you have to say you are using them.. Those people did not post entries to topic one and did not say they were using a bye ( b y e). They were given a pass the first week. For this second topic they again did not post anything and again did not say they were using a bye. So they were eliminated.

you get 2 bye's as long as you post that you are using one. you post it in the topic post where you would normally put your topic entry. you have to do it before the deadline.

that's it.

i checked and you are written up as having a bye week this week, so no worries for you. hope that helps

The rule regarding using a bye week, as I understand it, is that you have to post a comment in the topic thread that says, "I am using a bye week", and that comment can be posted at any time during the week.

I'm posting a clarification. Personally I think the rule is rather straight forward, but that just shows how crooked my brain works I guess. (and no, no prize of any material value being offered, which pretty much shields us from any sort of suit and all the state, federal and international laws that have to be compiled with for any sort of official Livejournal competition where they give out prizes (that drive people nuts with the "why can't I sign up I'm 15 and living in Arkansas...*g*). Well that and the fact that I pretty much have less money than anyone! *G* Which, you were of course joking, but I just wanted to show that I've thought that bit through before I let it get to this size and level of competition.)
