"Gays should live in the woods"

- Reaction from random internet poster to the overturning of Kentucky's "same sex marriage ban".

Even after sleeping on it, I'm still not sure if this is someone in favor of lifting the ban, against it, or just someone who wants to promote the idea of getting away from hectic city life!

Sure, he said "gays" but he also said "should live in the woods". Perhaps he formed this opinion after someone mentioned "bears".

So really, who knows! ;)

What are some of YOUR favorite quotes from random people on the internet?

***

Another favorite quote of mine is that the poll is open until TOMORROW: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/753252.html so you had better get out there and share the love for your favorites!!

That was said by Me. Right now. And you know what? I think I had a good point!!

Well, you got your city gays and you got your country gays. You can't just push your city gays into the woods. They won't know how to fend for themselves. Next thing you know they'll be in your bins at night, knocking things around, pumping the Scissor Sisters, and causing a ruckus!

ETA: Haaaaaaa, first!

Yay, first! I think the city gays and country gays should just all sit down, have a nice BBQ picnic, and do what comes naturally... 3-legged races! :)

Is that banjo music I hear? Hmm...

Still working on reading the entries. I've got Tribe 1 about halfway done, plus some random before-the-poll-went-up reading completed (I think I got about 40 read pre-poll).

A few favorites so far: [livejournal.com profile] alephz, [livejournal.com profile] bleodswean, [livejournal.com profile] i_17bingo, [livejournal.com profile] mamas_minion, [livejournal.com profile] sobota, and [livejournal.com profile] waltzmatildah.

I can't think of any particularly good quotes from people on the internet. But "Gays should live in the woods," makes me giggle. :)

I haven't so much as looked at the polls... I am a little afraid to see how I'm doing. xD I'm trying to focus on reading everyone, though. Doing better than I usually do, but we'll see how that goes...

I'm certainly trying! I find that once the poll goes up I tend to read even less -- and of course, I'm losing reading/writing time tonight thanks to having to cover a shift for someone. But I need the money, too. So there is that.

I'm currently doing some preliminary poking around of a new magical-realism universe and came up with a new word to describe a completely useless (well, almost useless) super power: tealepathy. It's when you can tell what someone likes to have for their morning drink - tea, hot chocolate, coffee, mate, and how they take it. As I said, almost completely useless except when you want to impress and slightly unnerve your friends and one-night stands.

This quote from one of my friends re: the Hobby Lobby ridiculousness made me smile. "Every time I see this Fox News nonsense I want to just start screaming 'Yes! Yes, I am waging a war on men!' and 'Everyone ought to be a Beyonce voter! Everyone.'"

Hahahaha. That's perfect! I wrote a Harry Potter fic once in which George spells a teakettle that tells you what the neighbours are having for breakfast if you run your finger through the steam. Based on the fairytale of the Princess and the Swineherd!

I've never read The Princess and the Swineherd! But yay for George-fics! Would you care to furnish me with a link to it, perhaps? :D

Or perhaps he was suggesting that gay people should pull a Thoreau, hmm? I know that occasionally I wouldn't mind running off to live in the woods.

I'm all for living in the woods.

As for internet quotes, I know I always grin when I think about [livejournal.com profile] porn_this_way's "heterosexual male privilege." :)

Not a random person, but my favorite xkcd quote:

"Are you coming to bed?"
"I can't. This is important."
"What?"
"Someone is wrong on the internet."

When I get mad at people online, I think of that and let it go. There is always someone wrong on the internet.

Exactly! By saying "The Internet", most people seem to mean their part of the internet, which still holds enough problems to be solved to keep anyone from sleeping ;).

I'm on a quest to find more zen in my life so I am avoiding the internet comment sections like the plague, otherwise I'm sure I'd come up with a gem for a quote ;)

That said, last night Belgium beat the USA in football (soccer as Americans call it) and while my FL was generally respectful, I was amazed to see how sore losers some Americans were about a sport they supposedly don't care about lol. There was a famous actor among them (at least one that I saw) and all I could think was, well, this just shows that the Dutch proverb is richt, pride leads to the fall :D

Date: 2014-07-03 05:07 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] anyonesghost.livejournal.com
Pride wouldn't had led to a fall if pride had actually played offense in the first 90 minutes instead of relying on their goalkeeper to pull pride's collective posterior out of the coals. (Seriously, 17 saves?)

Pride didn't really have a leg to stand on. No wonder it fell!

I don't even remember what it was on exactly, but it was on Youtube, and it was some video of a Chechen toddler doing something cute or a Chechen pop star ... maybe a traditional song from former Yugoslavia, someplace like that. Anyway, the comments were full of people who don't really speak English but have chosen it as the medium of their ethnic tension, and one guy finished up a torrent of expletives with " - you fucking goatfuckers ... sorry for saying that but I just think you all fuck goats."

(I'm pretty sure the guy was Chechen because in Chechen language you don't really swear unless you are literally about to murder someone. Always thought Russian and English were fair game, though.)

I'm enjoying the "I came out to have a good time and I'm honestly feeling so attacked right now" meme, but only when people use it in an actually, y'know, funny way.

I love a whole lot of quotes from @RealCarrotFacts and @ProBirdRights on Twitter because I have a thing for their randomness paired with deliberate, idiosyncratic bad grammar and spelling. ProBirdRights' "I am feel uncomfortable when we are not about me?" is pretty good, even if it doesn't actually have anything to do with birds. A sentiment for the ages.

I'm celebrating my second anniversary of quitting Facebook this month. It was an experience that produced nothing but ill will among people I met (I was working for the Obama re-election efforts at the time) and many true and ugly colors came out. But that wasn't the only reason I quit. Obviously the Bejeweled Blitz game and the Sims Social game, neither of which were benefiting me, but took a lot of time, were excellent reasons to leave.

Many of my friends from LJ (several that I met multiple times in real life) left here for there and have not come back. I guess it's good to know what you like! As for me, I haven't missed FB in the least.
