Good news Idolers!

Thanks to the recent SCOTUS decision, I can now let you know that, as your Idol employer, I no longer am oppressed by unconstitutional restrictions to my religious beliefs in what I cover of your health care.

Since my religious beliefs involve sacrificing you on an altar atop a volcano - any and all other "healthcare" you might be expecting is out of the question.

This is a great day for Idol, and for 'Merica. I'm sure you will agree - because part of the decision was that you can no longer disagree with me either. Or quit.

This may not be what the "actual decision" said. But that's what I read. I may or may not have taken the decision itself and written some things on it, in crayon. It doesn't matter though, because now it's part of the decision!

I always worry when I write some creative nonfiction "from the heart" because it's never as well-received as my fiction. But it's what my gut wanted to write this week, so it's what I wrote!

I hate feeling like I need to be pigeonholed into writing what gets the most votes, but sometimes I do. And then it becomes a question of "why are you really in this in the first place?" and then I have another rendition of my quarter-life crisis.

It's a tough impulse to overcome, to be sure. You're mindful of your audience and performing for them to some extent. But I think being true to yourself rings a lot more bells than making a grab for the low-hanging votes ... your audience can feel the difference, y'know? And since we're all in this (at least partially) for the exposure and to drive ourselves to write, why short-change yourself by writing something besides what you want to write?

I'm feeling the same way. I mean, I love the kinds of women I write about, like a ridiculous amount of love, and my platform of "queer ladies" can encompass women who are also in hetero-passing relationships as well (hm, idea there) but I do worry that I am pigeonholing myself a bit. But... can you pigeonhole yourself if you love what you write about?

For those of you not on my FL either here or on FB, we lost Ember Dog rather suddenly last night. We had no idea she was in as much respiratory distress as she was until after we'd returned from our evening walk, which she couldn't/didn't want to do. We rushed her to the 24-hour emergency vet who told us that Ember probably wouldn't make it through the night without heroic measures. We couldn't do that to her. We just couldn't.

She had mostly a long, healthy 15-16 years with us. She knew she was loved. She was my little shadow. I had to call out of work today because I knew I'd be a basketcase there.

So...if I'm distracted, you know why.

Speaking of healthcare, I've been MIA for a while, having some health issues of my own. I'm sure none of them covered by Idol!

However, the sacrifice upon a volcano altar you got from one of my s3 or s4 short stories, so I demand a ridiculous amount of royalties for this entry, and with that I can hopefully finance the medical bills! (which are doable over here, since we have universal healthcare. HAH! 'Murica.).

That said, I could use some healing energy my way, so I don't have worse to deal with in the near future.

I wish I'd had more time to write my entry - it was a last minute inspiration, based on a screenplay-ish thing I wrote for a videogame player video, but the people there trampled all over it and I retired from it, so I gave it a new life through a short story. I think it should be expanded perhaps, or still turned into a video. Still, I'm ambivalent over my own entry.

I'm infuriated by the SCOTUS decision, which extends the bad precedent of the "Corporations are people" ruling that has caused so much damage already.

I'm hoping the government turns to just funding free birth control clinics, period. And in the meantime,

Very glad that neither my ex, nor either of my daughters, are subject to SCOTUS decisions. NOT being 'Murican has its upside, that's for sure
