Green Room - Week 12 - Day 6
Jun. 18th, 2014 12:35 pmWe've been having training at work for the past couple of days.
Not "go into a meeting room" training or "have someone sit with you to go over this" training - rather the "dialing in and listening to someone talk while sharing their screen powerpoint presentation" kind of training.
Their catchphrases seem to be "Excellent Question!" and "This is what I call..."
This is what I'd call "by the time the program is installed into my system, I'm not going to remember any of this anyway!" ;)
So far it's been every day this week for two hours - and there are still over 20 more pages to go in the presentation! Good times.

Speaking of "good times" - the topic this week: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/748526.html
You have until tomorrow to get that in! Where are you with it?
If you are already done, have you started reading any of the other entries? Anything stand out so far?

Date: 2014-06-18 05:17 pm (UTC)But it's where my brain was.
As far as training goes... I hate that kind of training session.
Well, I hate training sessions in general. I'm more of a "give me an overview then just let me play with the thing" kind of guy.

Date: 2014-06-18 06:41 pm (UTC)Freakin' ditto.
The best training session I ever went to was a one-day Token Ring (a network system) class. Everyone else was going, "Slow down! Slow down!", and I was thinking, "Yes! This is EXACTLY the pace I need!"
But mostly, overview and hands-on experimentation are what I'm looking for. With easy-to-find in-depth knowledge if you hit a snag, but for the love of god, please do not slo-mo detail-drudge me for hours (or worse, days) on end.
I think I'd be playing high-speed Spider Solitaire in the background of Gary's training session, just to try to stay awake. :O

And I'm looking forward to reading yours because, tbh, comedy/humour isn't really my reading (or writing) thing so, your non-full on funny entry sounds more like my cup of tea.

Date: 2014-06-20 03:24 am (UTC)Ugh. Training. I've always hated the "training" parts of jobs.

Date: 2014-06-18 05:30 pm (UTC)I literally cannot focus on that kind of shit for more than a few minutes. I prefer the term "kinetic learner" instead of "daydreamer", myself. ;)

Maybe I'll try to bang something out during my lunch break tomorrow while crying. Yes! Try this! It worked for me today. I think. I hope. Maybe.
Human...emotion? What's that? What incision do you use on that?

Date: 2014-06-18 11:16 pm (UTC)I'm a bit worried about it, mainly because it's the first non-fiction entry I've written this season and because non-fiction isn't something that comes naturally to me.

Date: 2014-06-20 03:32 am (UTC)I posted my entry. I know a few like it, but am not sure how everybody will take this one. It is what finally fit the theme and came to me. I had thought of something else, but it was actually related to the word "fun" and dealt with grammar, so I felt it didn't truly fit the theme.
In other news, I have just about 200 pages left in reading Gone with the Wind. That is a long book, but I've wanted to read it being that I had to watch the movie for one of my research papers this past semester.
Also, my dogs and my sister's dog are very cute . . . but that should be a given.
