Green Room - Week 11 - Day 10

Every day is a bit of a crapshoot where I think about what I want to say in a Green Room and compare that to "what people are responding to". After all, I want you to be able to use it as the jumping-off point for whatever you were going to end up saying anyway!

So, based on the success of the thread yesterday - I am declaring TODAY to be n3m3sis43's birthday! Happy Birthday! I hope that today is even better than your last, completely unofficial, birthday that you celebrated! I expect, in future years, that you will celebrate it on this new official date, the one true day that you were born!

This will of course make some people stop and wonder "How can Gary change someone's date of birth?" "Where does he get the authority to do that?"

I get that authority, because I'm me.

It's much like "divine right".

Perhaps you DIDN'T think any of those things. OR rather, you did at one point and I changed your thoughts! So now, retroactively, you did not think anything like that.

You were instead thinking about how much you love mashed potatoes.

You might have some later.

This is just one more step toward the Gary-World order that is coming once I officially take over the planet and start fixing all the problems.

There will be no "poverty". Because everything will be mine. Maybe I'll let some of you borrow my stuff. I doubt it, but maybe.

Racism will be a thing of the past. Because all "people" will be equally oppressed - the same with sexism, and every other -ism... the standard will be "Are you Gary?" If the answer is "no", then you will know your place in the world!

Life will be good, and just.

I, for one, am looking forward to it.

So are you.

Or rather, you will be once I adjust a few things in your brain! ;)

First, and I have a fire.

Now that I've established that, I need to edit it to share just how awesome the fire is. Wow, I love fire. We had the chimney sweep come by today and repair the fire and fix the chimney and now it's working again and it is SO GOOD to have fire!

Because it's been really chilly here these past few days. We're getting freezing cold winds coming up from the Antarctic (or that's what I'm saying, because it sounds interesting and amazing) and the days are getting shorter. Brrrr!

I love potatoes, but am not so much of a fan of mashed. I prefer baked, or boiled with butter and rosemary. Or simply done in their jackets with some salt and pepper. Potato wedges are pretty fine, too, especially with garlic aioli.

I'm listening to a podcast and they were talking specifically about comedy, but I think it has to do with writing in general:

"Your style is based on what you CAN'T do".

What habits and constructs have you developed, as a writer, to avoid things that you don't think you do very well?

I always struggle with writing in third person, because I tend to put in too much description and water down the action. So I tend to rely primarily on first person.

I also struggle with writing about the everyday and making it interesting. I think I rely too much on the dramatic because it's easier for me to talk about something intense.

On the other hand, I used to feel like my dialogue was really weak - but instead of avoiding it, I kept practicing until I felt more comfortable writing it.

he adds oven-roasted cloves of garlic, salt, pepper, butter, sour cream and cheese. they are incredible.

Speaking of - if anyone is even still reading this thread... I need some thoughts on how to tell my parents and the in-laws that we're pregnant with #3. Let's just say they were less than excited that I had a 2nd one almost 3 years ago. When this one comes around, my boys will be 5 and 3.5 years old.
Any ideas? Especially those that are cheap/free.
