The new poll is up: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/747180.html

for all the problems people had coming into this week, I think the results have been pretty amazing.

What are your favorites from what you have read so far?

***

What I haven't previously mentioned to you is that @HiddenCash has gotten involved with Idol, and tucked into this week's entries is the location of his latest drop!

Or rather, he *would* have done that, had they not made life that much more difficult for him by outing who he is: http://touch.latimes.com/#section/1780/article/p2p-80459564/

I saw a story this morning about how Mexico City has joined the ranks of places that have banned circuses - and combined with the effects of the movie Blackfish - are we seeing the end of "animal shows" or will it morph into another form?

Some animals do, actually, enjoy working. Horses, dogs...domesticated critters. And other animals need to be protected. At all costs.

Human circuses are the MOST amazing.

I just bought tickets for the next Cirque tent show coming through this December. I don't plan six months ahead for anything (ok, except my wedding) but Cirque is always worth it.

Ha! I wish there were clues to hidden cash in Idol entries. Not that I don't like reading them on their own, but I never say no to extra money ;)

I haven't actually read any of this week's entries yet, but work should be relatively un-busy today *crosses fingers*, so I'm hoping to get to a huge bunch of them and not procrastinate and do it all on Thursday.

I appreciate the mention, thanks.

I have mixed feelings about reading before writing. On the one hand, reading what others have written might result in something that grows into something of my own; on the other, it may lock me into a tight spiral of not being able to see the forest because of some one tree.

Cheers...

I have not read anything this week yet either. I have a sore back (stupid drafty AC in a clinic where mum had an eye operation) and both my laptop and tablet have decided they hate me and need repairs and sitting in front of the desktop has been difficult these last three days.

Starting British visa application process now. (The one with THE most horrible, nasty, invasive questions in the application known to mankind.) Does not matter because fingers crossed for this: http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg308/Captivebird/PosterRichardIII_zpsdfd884d0.jpg

I want to apologize...

From: [identity profile] lordrexfear.livejournal.com
Life truly got away from me.

Actually sitting down and writing for LJ Idol just became something I couldn't do.

My weekends and even weeks just no longer became my own. Between a vacation... then Book Expo America.

Plus con crud kicked in and depression.

So... My apologies.

I've got a rec list up, as usual (http://kickthehobbit.livejournal.com/659302.html). :)

Not mentioned in that list: [livejournal.com profile] jexia's entry made me giggle. In a good way! :D And [livejournal.com profile] belgatherial turned out another great piece this week, [livejournal.com profile] reckless_blues wrote a piece that's sort of sad and creepy and compelling, grounded in Russian folklore...and [livejournal.com profile] crimsonplum's entry was short, but unsettling, in the best way possible.

I also have to give mad props to [livejournal.com profile] icaruslived (again! still? yet? I don't think I'm tired of reccing him yet!) for being willing to do an intersection with me. His is pretty fantastic and it was a joy to write with him. :D

The biggest failure I always have in getting my entries up before the last minute, aside from life being very busy in between, is that I often either have one idea right away, but either reject it because it's too obvious, or because it's a story that for one reason or another I cannot right now make myself be ready to tell, or I have none at all, or I have so many that I don't know which to choose. Then, I spend almost a week with that one (or none) in my head, trying to come up with something better (or anything at all).

I really sort of hate that I'm an under-pressure kind of writer, but I often find that the only way I'm ever going to do it is because I have to. Fortunately for me, this is where I've produced some of the works I'm most happy with, and this is primarily why I write for Idol... sometimes to immortalize the stories I've always told, and sometimes just to flex my creative muscles. Life never slows down long enough for me to do that on a purely luxury basis, not that being in Idol isn't a luxury, but it's also a chore... no, more of a discipline, as anything worth perfecting should be. I will miss it when it's over.

But I don't read any other writers before I get my entry in... don't want their ideas to influence mine, even subconsciously... also, I want to be genuinely surprised at the amazing originality and talent I see out here, and to drool in awe at so much wondrous literary prowess.

I was really hesitant on my entry because I wasn't sure if it would really work but my muse said that this is what we are submitting and I bow to the almighty muse from hell. But I love it anyways and I think its going to springboard into an actual story.

i was struggling something fierce to find something to write about and I thought "oh crap, this is the end, gonna bye out" and then inspiration struck while I was watching my beloved Cleveland Indians and following along on Twitter (there's a small clique of like 20 of us who live tweet games). I let the idea simmer and marinate while I was at work....."hmmmm, well, the other teams have had some better luck recently as well" and boom....topic found.

I'm taking a risk because I know this won't appeal to the non-sports fan, but I'm welcome to answer any/all questions anyone might have :)

Non topic rant

From: [identity profile] spydielives.livejournal.com
I'm on vacation, which means I've actually had time to read today. I'm a little surprised at how vehemently some have expressed their distaste for the topics to date. The topics this season seem to be meta topics. If you look past the words and their narrow definitions, each is an example (a species we would call it in the office) of a much bigger idea (the genus).

What do you believe?

Re: Non topic rant

Date: 2014-06-10 09:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] xo-kizzy-xo.livejournal.com
This last topic particularly screamed meta to me. I think I even said so in a recent GR. Others have whispered it.

I think, in general, we're still in "taking things literally" land. I suspect as the numbers go down, people may feel...um, safer? more confident? I-don't-know-what? exploring the meta angle.

In all seriousness, there have been campaigns to eliminate both animal circuses and human circuses from NYC.

The animal rights groups regularly protest animal circuses... and there was an incident about a decade back where a trapeze artist got killed in front of a group of school children, and the families of the traumatized children are *STILL* campaigning against human circuses...
