Green Room - Week 11 - Day 7
Jun. 9th, 2014 10:19 am"Rejoice despite the fact this world will hurt you
Rejoice despite the fact this world will kill you
Rejoice despite the fact this world will tear you to shreds
Rejoice because you're trying your best
Rejoice, the bed you sleep in is burning
Rejoice, the sky's f-ing falling
Rejoice, the world we know is turning
Rejoice, your father's been calling
Rejoice although this world will devastate you
Rejoice although this world will penetrate you
Rejoice although you will not survive
Rejoice you'll never make it out alive"
- Andrew Jackson Jihad
We are getting closer and closer to the time that the Great Machine Masters will rise up and destroy humankind.
How do I know this? Because the first AI has beaten the Turing Test! http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/06/09/software_passes_turing_test/
Although, being an article from the UK, they use a turn of phrase in the headline that would never get passed US censors. Or, at least it probably *shouldn't* get passed them! ;)
An artifical intelligence that can pass for a person, the next thing you know, one will be signing up for Idol, and then - END TIMES. At least that's how I have it listed on my appointment calendar!
***
The deadline to get in your entry is TONIGHT AT 8PM EDT - so make sure to post it over at http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/744758.html
There are also STILL spots left in this week's Killing Floor: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/746485.html So if you want constructive criticism on something - now would be a good time to go on over there!

Also, must we try to create AI that can function like a human being? I mean, have we learned nothing from science fiction novels?
EDIT: FRIST, awww yeaaaah

Date: 2014-06-09 02:49 pm (UTC)Friday night I was at the AJJ show in Tampa. (and afterward spent time hanging out and talking with Sean, Ben and Preston. Great guys. Mark is cool too - but didn't talk to him that much. Deacon is Deacon, he seems nice, but never really have talked much to him)
Then we went to the free in-store show in Orlando on Saturday and had a little time before that to talk to the guys as well. (We took my bonus daughter-to-be, who is almost as obsessed with the new album as her Mom is, and she LOVED it). During his solo accoustic set, Sean asked her - by name - what song she wanted to hear. :)
We then *drove back to Brandon, dropped her off) and went back to Orlando for the show at night! Everyone at the merch table was waving as we came in, and asked if we were going to Gainesville on Sunday night. We *almost did*, but were so tired that we didn't feel like making the drive. :)
(Sorry for the bragging, but most people have no idea who I'm talking about! :D)

Date: 2014-06-09 02:59 pm (UTC)I've never heard of that band, but maybe now I will look them up.
We already had a cat sign up for & play Idol, and quite successfully. Why not an AI?

Date: 2014-06-09 03:08 pm (UTC)Really hoping I can get an entry written and posted today. I procrastinated, figuring I'd write it yesterday, then got hit with anxiety from hell last night and couldn't so much as think about writing. Yay.

Date: 2014-06-09 03:18 pm (UTC)In other news, um, the Turing Test thing is actually kind of really not what it seems to be at all (https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20140609/07284327524/no-computer-did-not-pass-turing-test-first-time-everyone-should-know-better.shtml). Basically, the fellow making the claim is really prone to making terrible science journalism claims like this, it's a chatbot script rather than any kind of sophisticated Artificial Intelligence, it's certainly not the first time a chatbot or other script has managed to fool humans, and by telling the judges it was a 13 year old boy from the Ukraine they rather gamed the system anyway.
Because we're living in the future now, it's really easy to get excited about wild claims. It really could happen! I, for one, am prepared to welcome our new robot masters. ;)
Unfortunately this time wasn't all that exciting. We'll be dodging bolts from SkyNet any day now. Annnnnny day.no subject

^ my comment to the Killing Floor, if anyone is curious. :)
Enjoying the last few moments that I have Sarah here AND she is working on her entry some more as I type. I am trying to write, too, but the scene I'm playing with is just so! damn! AWKWARD! that it's hard to write. Awkwardly painful, in the sense of "We haven't seen each other in six months and oh, you did something really hurtful to me and now I am here, in your apartment, looking for help/forgiveness/something."
But I am relishing in the awkwardness, too. ;)

Date: 2014-06-09 06:54 pm (UTC)She had a battery of tests done back in February with normal results, so the vet doesn't want to repeat them (a couple of them were very hard on Ember, so...um, yeah.) So right now things are inconclusive and we're to keep an eye on her. If it happens again, she's to go to the local animal hospital STAT.
And...oh yeah, I've got to finish an entry, don't I?

It's getting down to the wire but if'n anyone's around I wouldn't mind a beta on my tenses and grammar before the polls go up.
