Special Powers Part 2

Since there is a lot of things going on this week, I figured that this was a good time to sit down and explain what the powers are, and who has them.

(Especially relevant with the Mystery and Pandora's Box, which no one who hasn't looked inside - or been shown knows what was inside of those!)

Some of them are pretty straight forward, and some are just plain fun! :) (for me anyway!)


immunity to give to one person - kate_spencer has that. If you are in danger, she could be your best friend. :)

1 free bye to give to someone else - deza had that. She actually used it this week.

personal immunity - diagenou has that. If he is in danger, he will be safe. (until it is actually used. It's an one-shot deal)

1 free bye for self - kotenok_angel has it. That's pretty self-explanatory.

Here's where we get more involved:

Bouncing immunity - currently possessed by morleysnow, at the end of this week it will be handled off to someone else. No one can possess it more than once. If it is NOT handed off by the topic deadline for a given week, it is out of the game. If it gets to the point that there are no more eligible contestants to possess it, it is out of the game.

Power of Veto - possessed by bleodswean Basically, if they don't like any given tribe's results, they can negate them. It's like a Judge's Save on American Idol, or a Non-elimination week on Amazing Race. Only it's in the hands of one of your fellow contestants!

Resurrection Stone is in the hands of belgatherial It's the power to bring back ONE contestant who is eliminated, giving them an one week immunity in the process.

Mystery Box was given to kathrynrose who had to make the decision between giving every single remaining contestant EXCEPT HERSELF an extra bye OR giving herself two extra byes. She now has two extra byes.

Pandora’s Box - was given to theun4givables who was given the power to bring 0-10 contestants into the game. (She had to decide how many/IF she was going to allow it to happen). I actually gave her an extension until an hour before this poll's deadline, because she told me she wants to bring back the maximum amount, if possible. http://theun4givables.livejournal.com/192209.html for details on that.

I will be updating you as the powers are used/past to someone else.

That's sweet of you to extend the Pandora's Box deadline. Maybe some of this week's bye-outs can appeal to theun4givables to get back in, should they so choose.

I should point out, because a couple people have asked me (so there's obviously at least a few confused people):

This is fellow contestant issuing a challenge to you.

Not anything official that "you MUST DO".

Do it if you can, and feel like doing it.

Otherwise, it's not going to impact your standing, in any way, in the game itself.

It seemed to help people get more reading done with a specific goal in mind, but it's a fun challenge, not anything official :)

Yep. Hopefully people take time to comment, regardless of if they can meet the challenge or not! Commenting to each other's work, and encouraging non-contestants to get out and READ is always a good thing.

IF YOU WANT CONCRIT - ASK FOR IT

If you're going to challenge people to write concrit, you should challenge people to ASK for concrit.

I am not going to write concrit on anything unless it is specifically requested. Ever.

And not everyone in Idol wants to receive concrit.

Idol has never been an "opt-out" of concrit community. People are in different places in their writerly worlds. Foisting our opinions on people who are still in the "OMG I can't believe I'm actully letting people read what I write" headspace is NOT necessarily helpful. Particularly if it's given by someone who han't practiced the skill of giving it.

Idol isn't a writer's workshop. I like the workshoppy things we've done, but if people start willy-nilly posting concrit to each other, feelings will get hurt.

Please don't ever stop cheerleading. My world would be a sadder, darker, quieter place.

Why I liked these challenges

Well..I have been reading and commenting since week 1 on almost 90% of the entries...nobody asked me to do it..it was my own decision.. i love reading more than writing..and I feel it's fair if I go through all the entries in a particular tribe before voting just to know that the person I am voting for deserves it over the others who posted.
Initially when i started writing in RL..of course friends and family were encouraging..they'll always say good things even if you suck. (Maybe it's cynical of me to think like that, but mostly that's what I thought) So when strangers, comment on your entry and say Good job...I really feel "Okay so I guess I really did a good job"..makes me happy. And I am all YES to concrit (though I agree it should been given to only those people who ask for it) Concrit makes me see things I may have missed..it helps to expand my vision. And yes it's an Art to be mastered..not everyone can give a concrit by not rubbing someone in the wrong way.
And after reading for almost week 10..sometimes I get lethargic...mostly it's OMG so many entries to read!..so when last week whipchick started this challenge thing it really helped..we were like okay atleast i'll do 50..let's try..this time reading the challenge I thought okay I'll give 10 genuine comments..i may not hv attempted to concrit.(just becoz i am as scared as the next person that someone may not like it.)
And let me tell you as a new writer it is pretty difficult to get someone read your work..forget concrit. And let me tell you reading these amazing entries all these weeks encouraged me to do better.
Just felt like sharing..sorry if i have hurt any sentiments, I didn't intend to..probably my longest post in GR..since I joined..sorry ab't dat too.:)
