Also, there's something new. I'm a bit nervous about it. But I've had this in mind for quite some time, and figure if it's ever going to happen, it might as well be now! I call it "The Killing Floor". There's a description of it's purpose over here: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/719625.html Basically though, it serves as a bonus Work Room, specifically aimed at critique, and helping rework past writings. Think of it as a Writer's Workshop, Idol style!

Will it work? *shrug* Who knows. But it's one of the ideas that has been floating around my head for awhile now that I'm trying out to see if it catches. If it doesn't, it doesn't. There are more ideas out there that will undoubtably show up in Season 9!

The killing floor...I like it.

Today, my manager finally announced to our team that I am leaving for a new job. Whew. The whispers and people acting like they didn't know was stressing me out. All of the guys I coordinate came into my office after the announcement to hear my official word, express their sadness and congratulations. It made me feel really good. They even planned a going away celebration for me. :)

I'm going to miss this team, but I am SO excited about the new job!!!

Also, why would you be nervous, Gary? Everyone always loves whatever you do. Or if they don't, they quietly mutter about it to themselves. It never blows up into some huge barney where they accuse you of being unfair/illogical/evil. Never, ever.

I do think it's a cool idea, though. I was just talking to my dad about how hard it is to get good feedback... without having to pay a lot of money for it.

Oh my gosh I'm so excited about The Killing Floor, Gary! I think it's an awesome idea! I've always wanted to rework some of my stories from past seasons (are past seasons allowed?. Will definitely be posting some things up there if anyone wants to crit them.

Eye doctor's appointments will be showing up in my future before my dinner service today - having a flareup of an old problem, but I just need to be prescribed some eye drops and make sure that nothing worse is going on, and I should be good to go. Reading entries as long as my affected eye allows me to (it gets tired more easily when I'm looking at computer/phone screens when it's untreated) and getting Chipotle for lunch. Fun times!

Busted out my spreadsheet to get cracking, and noticed that my name wasn't at the top of tribe 4 anymore - I thought Gary forgot me, and I must admit I was a little excited, because I thought I might be safe from elimination because of it... but did some further checking, and I see I'm now in tribe 3? Several people seem to have shifted tribes this week. Is that normal in week 2? Maybe I'm just noticing because I actually have a spreadsheet this time...

Which I believe is the highest we've ever been! Any chance we can crack that 50 mark and get into the 40s?

We've also had a post in the "Top 25 posts" on the front page a couple times in the last 24 hours. Which is pretty exciting and/or sad for LJ. ;)

I like the name "The Killing Floor", but then, the scrivener folder where I put my stories which need extensive work/editing is titled "The Dissection Table" so I may be a bit fond of brutal editing metaphors.

How often will you be posting a Killing Floor? Weekly?

I hope to find the time to get over there and leave some crit, but I reallllllly need to get with the program reading entries and voting and hopefully commenting.

Otherwise, some friends are going to show up in my life (and my house) for dinner tonight, and I need to figure out what to feed them. Pesky friends, wanting food for dinner. Yeesh, so unreasonable. ;)

It's my monster niece's birthday today. My brother and his wife are in the midst of a divorce, and I was dreading his kids being here all week under my supervision- but the pair of them got into a fight about it and now they're only coming tonight for a few hours. I'm getting her a cupcake cake to celebrate that I don't have to see them again until late Thursday.

I had a monster niece once. I divorced my connection to her so I don't have to see her rotten behavior any longer but WOW she made me nuts.

She was just two years older than my daughter but spoiled rotten and her mom was incredibly permissive so my own kids were always like "Why does Anna get to do THAT? Why don't they do anything when Anna acts like THAT?"

hopefully a giant block of free time will appear, so i can read a bunch of entries. i think i'm behind in my reading.

also i think i just ate a fermented carrot. o.O can carrots ferment? how can you tell if they're bad? (it was a raw peeled carrot, if that makes a difference. possibly they're a week and a half old by now. possibly two weeks, i'm not sure. still crunchy, just... vaguely fermented-tasting.)
