I went to CERN once, and did a tour, where they had all these photos of the people and the things that were the start of the internet. It was pretty cool.

And I am about to head to bed... quarter to 11, yo. I am just tiiiired. must be spring coming. Also it is my sadness at buying low fat milk :-( It made it a sad evening indeed.

oh! what I did do was faff around looking for accomodations. And I now have the ryokan booked. That was a big effort! The decision making was painful in the extreme.

Oooh, which ryokan in what area? I used to help one of my executives travel with her family to Japan and she always wanted an "authentic" experience (her daughter was adopted from Japan so she wanted to give her the cultural experience, not the tourist experience, or something like that).

Good morning all. I've finally finished reading/voting for tribes two and three, but still have to read/vote for tribe one. So, if you're over there, look out. *grin*

I thought putting the voting spreadsheet together yesterday was going to kill me, but I think I eventually got all the names sorted into the correct tribes. Then I thought, "Why did I bother doing this, Gary's just going to change them all around anyway?" Well, hopefully not for a bit.

Penn & Teller

Having recently celebrated my 40th (on 2/16) and having done so in Vegas (with tons of family and friends!!), I took the opportunity to fulfil a recent meme type deal floating around Facebook, wherein you gift people as long as they promised to pay it forward (I love that stuff!). Anyway, I bought a metric ton of doodads and gadgets, but the favorite thing I got was a "metal" card with our Bill of Rights printed on it (guaranteed to set off a detector at TSA). I got these after watching Penn & Teller on stage (about six feet in front of my face!!).

The best part was that Penn walked out into the center area (outside of the theatre) and let everyone take pictures with him, while he signed stuff. I got to hug Penn Jillette. AH-MAZING. Plus, I got cool as shit gifts for a game of play-it-forward. Can't get much better than that! <3

Someone tell me I'm going to write this morning. I haven't in two days and I can tell the wonderful things it's doing to my moods (read: I am a cranky miserable bitch if I don't write).

This is why I tell people that writing is not only a thing I do for pleasure, but it's also a thing I need to do for the sake of my mental health. Along with sleep. But I did that already. ;)

The idea is to write until I have to go pick up the child from the bus stop, then read LJI entries while in between rounds of Mario 3d World for the Wii U and making sure my child doesn't kill himself. Now to leave the GR to actually DO that...

I'm celebrating by being really happy and grateful at the kindness of People on the Internet. A tumblr friend of mine is going through cancer and a ton of people are donating money to them and their partner, and it's giving me lots of hope.

I'm picking up new glasses today (like, the for-eyes kind, not the kind you put juice in) and am planning on hitting up a coffee shop on the way back for reading, writing and caffeinating purposes. Then I'm going to a local ham radio meeting. I haven't managed to get to one in about four months so I'm pretty excited!

25 years ago I was 13 years old. I could never have imagined the internet in any of its glory. And now, it's just so pervasive. T (aged 5) asked the other day what's in our brains (apart from memories, which she told me are in your brain). I said, well, lots of things, it's kind of made up of this squishy stuff, and there is a lot that goes on that we don't know about. And she said, 'The internet might know.'

Made me think about this evolving, somehow-organic thing that is the internet, where knowledge is constantly being added to and where our thoughts are challenged and new ideas breed new ideas, and how utterly awesome that is.

I was also 13 years old 25 years ago! I remember my best friend telling me about another friend (one I didn't have contact with anymore after having moved twice) who not only had a home computer, which was exotic enough, but had this thing called Prodigy, where you could talk to other people over the computer. (This may have been a year or two later, though. My memory is fuzzy.) It boggled my little adolescent mind.

And now I spend at least 75% of my free time on this thing called the internet. Some days it's 90%. Sometimes, I access the internet on my computer and on my phone at the same time.

And today's 13-year-olds probably can't even imagine a world without it. I can hardly imagine a world without it, and I lived in that world.

Also, it friggin' snowed again last night. It's the kind of snow that really piles up on tree branches and makes everything all pretty, but driving home from choir rehearsal last night was Not Fun.
