As much as I've been looking forward to the start of Idol, I have to admit I'm not ready. I haven't written anything of substance since Exhibit B ended, even though I've had writing dates and have had ideas of things to write about. It's like my words are broken, and I'm a little worried about throwing my brain into the pressure cooker before they're fixed. But time and tide, etc.

Join the club. I think my words are broken too. But maybe writing them out will make them finally fall together? It's like dumping out a puzzle, right? First it's a jumbled mess..then you spread them out, etc.

I'm ready. For the last six months I have been writing almost every day - the ideas are coming, the words are flowing. Only thing that holds me back is the fear that the best work I'm producing is not going to be good enough.

Tonight I am just finishing up a couple of writing projects so I can focus mostly on just writing for either the Creative Writing module of my degree or Idol, and not be too sidetracked by other projects for a while.

Yeah... I'm ready. Bring it on.

But I've got to tell you guys this, if only for posterity:

One of my coworkers lives near one end of my street. He always takes his two smaller-than-Ember dogs out before going to work, say around 5AM.

This morning he asked me if I saw the coyotes dashing down my street.

And I replied, "What coyotes?"

And he said, "The coyotes that are always wandering around just before dawn. You've never seen them?"

I shook my head. He knows their routine down pat, I guess. They show up at the end of the street, sort-of-kind-of regard him, won't chase his dogs because they're on leashes (it'd be another thing if they weren't), and then they suddenly decide to do the multi-yard dash down the hill, past my house, and into the side entrance to the park which is over on the next block. He says it's like they're racing each other for the heck of it.

Now I'm tempted to just wait in the driveway until they dash past. Unfortunately I'd be very very very late for work if I did. Still, I think it's really neat in the wildlife-in-your-own-backyard kind of way.

Timing couldn't have been better :D Amazon's Breakthrough Novel Award contest just closed for submissions and edits, so I can stop fiddling with that and focus on Idol!...

... and second draft of first novel while second one's waiting its fate in ABNA, and starting the outline of the next one I've been dying to start. Ok, I might not actually be ready, but I'm as close as I'll ever be :D
